Cheers zak bro 😎👊🏻 I don't doubt my skill after the national park and the archway after that I knew... I can get out of sticky situations... But bro... I have your vid to thank for that 😁
Welcome to the industry it's a very different job now as I started class 1 in 91 and bounced between Scotland and Europe for the first 18 years and bought my first truck in 2000 this industry has consumed relationships children and taken up all of my working life so far I now go home every night it took years to get the work to achieve it my best advice going forward is buy a proper hgv map and take the time to plan your route also don't believe everything you are told careful what you wish for you might just get it
Hi thanks for the advice Eddie 😎👊🏻 I do four on 4 off so the work life balance is not too bad for me but at present I'm a single lad anyway so I only really have me to think about up to now 😎👊🏻. I actually went out and purchased the Phillips hgv uk road atlas last week but... To be honest I've not actually had a chance to use it yet... But that's because I'm just getting used to things so I'm doing that thing where I'm making sure the loads are properly secured which takes me a little time then it's off straight away to the next drop... But I'm getting there slowly 😎👊🏻
D'ya know what REALLY pisses me off? When they put the damn lown bridge sign about 20 feet from the fuc!ing bridge so you have no chance of turning around if you need to.
Yip I had that last week... I ended up sitting in a bus stop waiting for someone that could stop the traffic on both sides so I could turn round... Lucky a couple of highways maintenance guys come buy and helped me out 😅
Methinks you've articulated, no pun intended, why, CE license holders are worth the £20.00/hr basic pay! Well those who from their very first few days, demonstrate every day why they can solve situations that would leave many others in tears! Seems like the determinations required to qualify are key ingredients for HGV drivers the majority of other road users simply never have?
Yes being able to think on your feet and solve situations definitely helps when your a hgv driver 😁 you have to calculate if you have enough room to make the necessary manoeuvres required to get in and out of your drop points....its definitely a skill.. And until I had actually started the training I had no clue what was involved... So I take my hat off to all those in the industry that have owned their skills as a professional drivers 👊🏻
Thanks Lee 😁 yeah I'm definitely enjoying the learning side of things... Aswell as meeting other truckers on route swapping experiences etc I should of done it years ago lol

Hi Chris and congratulations on getting your job 👊🏻😎 no the satnav was my purchase... Although I'm not really happy with a couple of things about it to be honest... It's the Tomtom go expert... Although the satnav is great and does a pretty good job... It has to pair up to the phone through Bluetooth and your personal hotspot.. Which I personally find a bit crap.. James I am trying to get into this myself. I work for a renowned company and they have class 1 vehicles all over the country but won't give me a chance. I decided to do it myself. But the course costs are too expensive. Trying yo fund anything as a trainee. Don't know if it's going to be a good idea. Thinking about ADR too ( haven't even passed theory yet lol 🙄). Please advise
Hi thanks for reaching out 😎👊🏻… you have a couple of options available…. 1: You could enroll on a boot camp, I know a couple of people that have already successfully been on them and not only passed but are now working in the industry…. 2: you could apply for training in stobarts…. They do there own in house training.. the catch is you have to work for them for a set period after passing before moving on… I have a friend that did that also.. although he’s left stobarts now.. Both the options are available the boot camp is free but you have to wait a little time to get onto it… stobarts are usually pretty quick to respond… Both can offer you employment to help you get your foot in the door and save the ball ache of having to find a company willing to take on a new pass. I hope this helps 😎👊🏻 and if you have anymore questions I will try my best to answer them.. if I can’t I will try to point you in the right direction for the answers 😎👊🏻

Watch the working time directive there with your hours. Contrary to the myth that has circulated for years within many trucking firms, there is no provision whatsoever to opt out of the WTD for truck drivers. Most other industries there is an opt out provision but not trucking. Going over 48 hours for just a few weeks soon becomes difficult to pull it back. Employers who give you an opt out form to sign are giving you a worthless piece of paper.
Hi, which app? Do you mean the "CPC case study test module 2" if that is the one if you type that in on the App Store you should see one with a purple and black picture with white writing that says "the complete CPC case study” that’s the one I used 😎👊🏻
Sounds eventful James, bet your head was ruined after the first week. Start my new position on Monday, fell on my feet with a great firm, massive new site and new Volvos, mon/fri days. I laugh as the same concerns I have you’ve just gone through IE class 1 reversing messing with your head 😵💫🤣.
I love the volvo it's sooo comfy and much more smoother to drive... What firm did you manage to get with? Yeah the reversing still goes pear shapped sometimes 😁

Nice mate 😁 I see alot of the great bear lads out on the roads.... Never know we might pass eachother one day.. Or more to the point you might pass me in in the volvo 🤣
I don't recommend hgv driving for a living. Easy to get into but it's a crap job on the roads for hours at a time. Sadly the way the Industry works your doing 14 hour shifts to make it work. No thanks, I'd rather earn less for less stress
Listen to you talking about how draining it can be...it does get better i am 10 months tramping...I hate when people say all you do is just sit there...trying delivering to farms here in ireland narrow roads over hanging tree 🙏 nothing comes towards you...while your brains racing and your arse is clapping...lol...Best of luck keep at it lad...I am driving 9 month of renault t480 as do adr also
It really is mentally draining 😂 when I was going through the national park with pretty much single track roads 😂 the sheer concentration involved in missing things like you said "trees.. Walls.. Cyclist.. A tractor oh and a sheep... That looked at me as if to say" Wtf you doing here in that" was so draining lol But I'm happy to hear it gets easier 😅
I have learnt the hard way got basic training then off you go..I will say that i always plan my route i find street view a big help and i have used top of the range satnavs belonging to other drivers when i did coach tours to the alps from ireland...but Google maps i find the best..but i plan route on it as you well know will always take you the shortest way (meant for car) so if I don't like the way it's sending me i just drop pins and it won't do that.
Good idea using Google maps... My satnav has been pretty good... But for some reason it just throws a fit at the conwy tunnel pretty much everywhere else it's been faultless.. Having said that.. I still don't trust and have been out and got myself a hgv road map as back up just in case.. That way I've got three references.. Google maps.. The Road map and the satnav... But watch... I will still end up getting lost at some point 🤣😂 I bet going the alps was fkn awesome and a but scary at the same time with the drop offs 😬
Alps was grand...it was London that scared me the most only driving coaches 3months doing local school pick ups in a very small part of county waterford in Ireland ...then the opportunity came up to do tours ...I have never been to London or anywhere in UK.. but like i said plan..take your time and if in doubt get out was what i was told..I rather look a fool for get out then hitting something with 56 people watching me..love trucks only me to worry about.
Dont doubt yourself..... remember you have been trained to high standards..... welldone!

It will soon be time for the training to start and to be honest mate it's better to get it all done during the summer months... Helps not having water on the mirrors and light to see what's around you 😁 and you will have a good few months of light when get out on the roads for the first time 😁 but you'll love it just the same 👊🏻😎
Before you know it pal you will be confident and enjoying trucking through the small villages etc, as for the toilet idea, a wash bowl with a plastic bag liner does the job. And as for the navi you will also learn when to ignore it etc. nice honest update from you, happy days
Thanks for the tips 😁 every little helps...
Yeah definitely going to keep it honest.. It might help others out if they understand where I fucked things up.. Make things a little smoother for others 😁
@@New2HGV as we say your learning has begun, things will get better, by making mistakes and learning.
Oh god I hope so 😂😂😂😂
Good job mate this will help new drivers. Good luck with your driving future stay safe 😁👍🚛
Both the options are available the boot camp is free but you have to wait a little time to get onto it… stobarts are usually pretty quick to respond…
Both can offer you employment to help you get your foot in the door and save the ball ache of having to find a company willing to take on a new pass.
I hope this helps 😎👊🏻 and if you have anymore questions I will try my best to answer them.. if I can’t I will try to point you in the right direction for the answers 😎👊🏻
@@New2HGV thanks a lot mate. Appreciate it
Get yourself a slow-cooker and a good cookbook. You will be much better fed and spend much less.
Yeah before I had to stop being on the road I had a insta pot duo 😁 did a fair bit of stuff from pressure cooker to frying etc.. I used to pretty much live in stew 😂 another driver actually put me onto it 👌🏻 awesome bit of kit 🙌🏻
You’ve done so good! Did you go straight to class 1? I’ve got my class 2 intensive 16th-20th may and progress to class 1. Great vlog enjoyed it liked and subbed buddy!
Awww thank you I'm happy you find the vlogs interesting 😎👊🏻 I did 20 hours in a class 2 and failed the practical test... But I got the feeling the examiner did not like me at all 😬... So after that I booked on for the class 1 as soon as I could.. Which I managed to pass with just two minors.. I find driving the class 1 much easier...im not sure why.. I didn't actually do anything wrong in the class 2.. But I much prefer the class two.... Will be giving you a thought on your test days... Just remember take your time and plan ahead 😎🤘🏻.. And let me know how you get on with your training & tests... Will be routing for you on your test days 😁
What is maxi like to work for
Happy trucking pal 👍🏻
Cheers buddy 😎👊🏻
22:52 "I've been 'Right Down South' - Bury St. Edmonds". Is that the one near Lands End.....!??
No it's West Sussex lol but for someone from Manchester it's right down south... Although I have been further down south since.. Devon/Cornwall etc
@@New2HGV Now, that's where I am. Over the Tamar, in Pirate county, Kernow.....!
Haha penzance?
I flashed you on the 55 remember your basics an unmarked tunnel should be a minimum of 16ft 6” yours is the 1st maxi I’ve seen that’s a Renault I’m hoping to get on with maxi as I’m based in conwy just waiting for my retest the roads you did into bwtys y coed is the roads I’ve got so my test on lol 😂well done mate your doing well
Thanks Mike... I didn't see you flash me mate 🤦🏻 or would of flashed ya back... I was doing well.. I'm now off with corona... It got me last night so did a test this morning and yip... Got it... Can't wait for the fever to break... 😞
@@New2HGV thas be reet lad back at it soon just had a call fingers crossed for me retest Tuesday afternoon in Caenarfon looks like someone has canceled the trainer is trying to change to name on the test so I can get on it
@@New2HGV ended up in today for retest I was a late replacement for some lad that went of with covid they got a name change for me on the test spot and only gone and passed my mate just got mod 4 next Tuesday and then I’ll be hounding maxi for a job my mate 👍
Awww nice one mate 😁 congratulations buddy... I might be seeing you at maxi soon then with a bit of luck 😎👊🏻. Covid still kicking my arse mate 😞 but fingers crossed it won't last much longer
Good vid mate well done I follow jay who drives for maxi
Yeah Jay was the first vlogger I watched and watching him helped me make my mind up that I was going to take the jump into the industry 🤘🏻
I can imagine the stress lol!
If a bridge has no height marker it should be at least 16'6"
Watch the working time directive there with your hours. Contrary to the myth that has circulated for years within many trucking firms, there is no provision whatsoever to opt out of the WTD for truck drivers. Most other industries there is an opt out provision but not trucking. Going over 48 hours for just a few weeks soon becomes difficult to pull it back. Employers who give you an opt out form to sign are giving you a worthless piece of paper.
Ahhh thanks for that info I didn't know this 😁🤘🏻
At steak n veg looked fucking class!! Good video mate nice tunes tae btw
Cheers Mark 😎👊🏻 yeah steak n veg for the win 😂🤣
Thought u were on the Highland run?
Not until May.. If things don't change 🤞🏻 😬
@@New2HGV u will soon get sick of the wind n rain up here
Hahaha yeah the wind.... The wind with a curtain sider 😮 scary stuff lol but will be alright 🤞🏻
Hi , Whats the app called?
the app for parking?
Hi, which app? Do you mean the "CPC case study test module 2" if that is the one if you type that in on the App Store you should see one with a purple and black picture with white writing that says "the complete CPC case study” that’s the one I used 😎👊🏻
I'm sure you briefly mentioned about an app that u helps you direct to safe parking for overnight staying . Or did I misheard it ?
Ahh I see sorry yes it called “truck parking Europe”
Great thanks, having recently passed myself. the app will be a big help !
@@New2HGV great bear mate. Really stringent tests and standards, but they are willing to induct and train me correctly. Can’t ask for more, very professional and good pay.
That looked at me as if to say" Wtf you doing here in that" was so draining lol
But I'm happy to hear it gets easier 😅
I will still end up getting lost at some point 🤣😂
I bet going the alps was fkn awesome and a but scary at the same time with the drop offs 😬
Yeah I'm not looking forward to London... But am there tomorrow 😬
Jesus your first 4 days sounded awful haha
They wasn't my favourite times 🤣😂 but... I learned alot from getting in those sticky situations 😁
