4.10 gears are the best thing I've done to my bf 6 speed ute. Mines cammed, yella terra plenum with twin 65mm throttles, 25% underdrive and pulls along pretty well. 4.10 really remove the low end doughiness and 3rd gear lag
Awesome review. I love my BA XR8 Manual. I had it out today and they just make you smile. You know that it's not going to be setting any land speed records but the noise and theatre of it all and having fun driving is what it's about! I'll never sell mine!
I’m looking at upgrading from my BA mk2 xr8 Ute to an fgx sedan and I just know I’ll miss that angry boss 260, it just puts a smile on your face and makes any day brighter
If you really want a ute to sound good drop the tail pipes pointing down infront of the diff it uses the bed like a soundboard and gives an awesome rumble.
True, but turn downs are purely for the pleasure of the occupants in the vehicle though, and not so much for the people you drive by, as turning down the exits of any exhaust system will lower external decible levels. 👍 On a ute ya want down turned dumpies exiting each side just in front of the rear tyres, and on a 45 degree angle from the centre of the car, with 45 degree dumps.
@@justin3131ify Get your point mate but I can't stand that bloody boy racer crackle leave that to crowd with less cubes. Still the best way to bring out the best sound from a V8.
I miss my XR8 BA 6 SPEED she was metallic black blue flec Sold her for 9.5 4 years ago. To many roos around my new place and needed a 4x4. Kicking myself as I miss her.
Of course you loved it Johnny mate it's like you're back in your old beast,it's no race winner but that sound alone is why you own these Utes how bloody good is it lol, driving it must of brought back fond memories of your own Ute for sure, you killed it once again nice one buddy.
It's got a wicked note! Certainly not wrong about that Ross.👍 It's quite a nice looking ute too. Especially the bright Yellow! My compliments to the owner. They can handle quite well and very torquey. If set up properly with lowered suspension, shocks and a Brembo brake upgrade they'll stick to the road like shit to a blanket and stop on a dyme.😅 I've owned 2 of these Ba XR8 utes, 1 early model and 1 mk2. The 6 speed is amazing on fuel and the gear ratios are closer together making it even more enjoyable to drive. These engines love to rev but can be quite expensive to work off their heads. With a few simple mods such as nice set of Extractors, full 2/5 inch Exhaust,Cold air intake and Tune these Engines will really suprise you. I agree though that if you're chasing huge power it will be very costly. Awesome video and thanks for sharing it!👌😃
These motors were actually in the ford F150 lightning in the states with a supercharger making 280kws. Ford Australia made some changes to it and produced 260kws without a supercharger
I have had a XR6 Turbo BA 4 speed auto and I now have a BA XR8 5 speed manual Ute and the take of and instant power and yes the sound of the Ute is why better and they do handle pretty good also. but the turbo is good when boost kicks in and also is an amazing car but over all it depends what your taste is at the end of the day
Go the 4.11 diff & bump the rev limiter, completely different beast. I’m currently in the process of trying to save mine since some inconsiderate person tee-boned it coming out of a driveway 😞 she copped a big whack, but hopefully she’ll pull thru
Great review! Have an 05 6speed BA myself, Header back exhaust, Bluepower intake and Bluepower tuned. Love it and the noise it makes (which is exactly why I bought it). Using a video seem to get just under 6sec 0-100 with good tyres, quick enough for a bit of fun espeically when the daily is a lot slower.
XR6, XR8, SS or Maloo, Ute's are just the best brother. I miss having a ute. There was only room for me and my lunch box!! I liked your ute. First time I saw you took your Canadian brother out, that's also when I subscribed 😀

I have the same car, except it's a black auto sedan.... so not the same at all lol. It has a pacemaker catback quad exhaust but it doesn't sound as sweet as that. You suggested once I should get it tuned, I looked into that and just ended up confused with so many people having so many different opinions who are all apparently experts. Every shop that has a decent online presence is either in Vic or over on your side, but I'm in the mid north coast of NSW, plus shop prices of dyno tuning are astronomical. Are there any good alternatives or options you can recommend? Or considering I'm probably going to sell it soon, should I not even bother (I was thinking it might be a good selling point if it has a tune that makes it perform/run better, plus I'll get to enjoy it for a bit lol). Sorry for all the questions, but I'm sure you can tell I know nothing of these things, and I trust you wouldn't give me bad advice.
Had mine tuned not long ago, albeit a manual. You can notice the extra torque in gear but I wouldnt say its a night and day difference made an extra 15rwkw peak but made more across the full range too. Everything is a bit nicer though, took the idle up a bit, more torque, better fuel economy and sounds a bit better too. I think it was worth it as I plan to keep it long term but if you are selling it I doubt itd be worth it, I wouldn't pay extra for one that was tuned probably less likely to buy it with more mods
@@phild1031 thanks for the info Phil. Being an auto from what I've read I should be able to improve shifts, responsiveness and economy, plus I was hoping it might make it sound better again. And yeah I am worried that getting it tuned may make it less desirable if people think it's been thrashed. But out of interest did a shop dyno it, or did you do one of the handheld flash units? Are you willing to share how much it cost you, or even just a ballpark figure for the work you had done?
@@bigdaddy741098 Mine was done on a dyno, wouldn’t recommend a generic tune. The sct handheld devices are old tech now it seems most shops will be using pcmtec which allows a heap more changes but no device so need to go back to flash it back to stock or anything. Prices are on the Bluepower site for theirs was $1095 for the tune and cooler thermostat, assume most places are fairly similar. Auto shift points and firmness should be able to be adjusted too.
@@phild1031 yeah every shop I saw was selling the x3 model which turns out is discontinued, so that's old old old tech lol. Some sites made it seem like you couldn't even tune a BA without one of those things. I think you're right, there's no real benefit in spending that much in my situation, I just got it in my head that doing this would appeal to buyers if I end up having to sell it because it might make the auto seem a bit more exciting if that makes any sense. It only makes sense to sell it if I can cash in on the increased market value, and I don't know if autos are in that much demand. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to help
