As an old school fan of CoD eSports, I agree with ACHES in that fans didn't benefit from the CDL. We went from open events with over 100 teams competing and quick-paced matches all weekend long to a closed franchise system with 12 set teams. We have less tournaments now in favor of online play. We went from 32 team champs to 8 team champs, with several years of teams having 1-2 round byes. The CDL era has been a disaster in terms of fan experience. It's admittedly better now than it was in MW, but the scene hasn't been the same since franchising began.
I think it would be pretty interesting to ask Chris about playing with Owakening. Did he think he could make it to the league, did he see the flashes of talent early on
CDL has also been good to bring new fans. I'm 37 from UK, hardly played COD growing up, and got hooked on the first CDL season after coming across the stream on YT. Even if CDL fails, I hope there will always be a professional COD scene to follow

the only good thing to really come from franchising was that we get to watch competitive cod more frequently. nearly every single weekend for 6 months we get to watch matches. i love that. but i do not like league matches. competitive cod should only ever be played in tournament format. if activision dropped the franchise buy-in to 7 or 8 million, changed the format to tournaments only, and add 4 more teams, the CDL could be huge! The season should be from early December-mid August. Every other weekend a tournament is held at either MLG studios or Arlington esports stadium...so early december, mid december, early january, mid january, and so on until the end of july. That would equate to 16 double elim tournaments + champs in mid August. Boom i just created the perfect format, hire me activision.
Challengers players aren’t getting screwed…. Mack, pred, ghosty, wake, vivid, Nero, sib, beans, kremp, scrappy, insight, hicksy, hydra, drazah are all players from challengers and all of those players are on decent teams. And all except maybe Mack and hicksy are top tier players, and the only reason Mack and hicksy don’t look great is because they’re role players. Idk about that take
I understand the GA and the integrity of honoring it, but if it comes down to you and me and depending on if I do something that’s GA’d, Call me what you want but it will the word Champ at the end of the day😁

Chris was 100% right with the pros need to start doing more. This isn’t a conversation of what is “fair”, it is a conversation of creating longevity for the space. If they are in it for the 3-5 years to make money and leave, keep doing what they are doing. They won’t have to worry about creating content or working in the space cuz there won’t be a space to work in. They don’t need to become the next Scump but every major league (including Basketball, Football and Baseball) I would argue grew just as much from individuals than teams. But don’t complain when a team evens the playing field by giving themselves a competitive edge.
