It's seriously so great. I got to do all my piled up dishes and collect the trash around the house while listening to Mikan's relaxing chatter and throwing a glance at each skirt while at it. Imagine how productive we could all be together~ !
i say throw away everything you’re unsure about. if you’re unsure then there’s no point. only keep the ABSOLUTE items edit: i do acknowledge donating them !! i donate all of my clothes unless they’re unwearable, my lingo just means i group donating with “throwing away” RECYCLE KIDS
I would say the same. But it is hard to trow stuff away. It took me 3 days to clean out my closet last year cause I kept daunting. And my stuff is less than half of hers :p
Please don't just donate clothes to the next "charity". Give them to thrift stores. There are way to many clothes on earth. And donating "old" ones doesn't help.
Here’s my opinion! the shorts: get rid of them if you’re not comfortable wearing them in public red skirt: it’s just a very basic red skirt and I think the red is too bright also you have other basics so get rid daisy green skirt: if you never wear it then just get rid of it picnic skirt: keep! I think it’d be so cute with a basic white top for the beach or a picnic!
Don't beat yourself for keeping a lot of stuff, it means you're not impulse buying as much and you love what you have! 💕I really do reccomend trying the Mari Kondo method where you put everything on your bed and go from there since you're having trouble getting rid of stuff
I came down here to comment the exact same thing. The point of going through your closet isn't to get rid of a TON of stuff, it's just to get rid of the stuff you don't wear or like anymore, and keeping in mind stuff you might not want to keep in the future.
For the skirt with the zipper issue, the zipper can be replaced so if you really love the skirt you can just replace the zipper. Also I find that to fix clothes I put them in a pile in a place I can see them(like on my desk) and tend to work on them while listening to music, a podcast, or put on a movie or show I've seen before so that I can do things while also not getting bored. I also find when I write things on a list, like a post it note and put it some where I will see it(such as the corner of the border around my TV) I usually get the stuff on it done, it also helps to not put too many things on the list so you don't feel or get overwhelmed. Its all about making a habit of doing things. Hope this helps with some ideas, from a fellow procrastinator!💚💜
My tip for sorting out: do NOT think about the things too much! If you explain to yourself why you bought it or what outfit you wore with the item you have too many arguments for keeping it, even if you KNOW you wont wear it anyway. Also for the things youre unsure about from the start; when youre unsure, just give it away, because youre already in doubt from the start and you probably wont be wearing it any time soon. Also if you have things you dont even remember, give them away as well because it means that this item is not as important as others.
As someone with ADHD and Depression: If you really want to fix the skirts, leave them out while sorting und do them directly after or put them somewhere where they are in the way. But never put them away, because out of the way is out of the mind.
I'm gonna teach you a thing that I've learned from my mom, mikan. If it starts with "but what if", give it away. It's much better giving it away for someone who needs it than keeping it and never wearing it cus the "if" never happens.
I love that thrifted yellow skirt!! I think it would look really cute with white lace and a denim jacket, or royal blue to contrast? Take the skirt with you next time you thrift/shop to find something to go with it 💛
One tip to free up a bit of space in the drawers would be to keep things that you have for sentimental reasons but probably wouldn't wear (like the first skirt you made) somewhere else. They totally don't need to be in the drawer with your regular clothes - get a cute box for sentimental items. Same with those skinny jeans - if you don't wear them but are keeping them just in case (which is smart because otherwise it's just wasteful) then keep them somewhere else like in a suitcase. Oh and totally make this a RUclips series, I'm weirdly into watching people tidying / organising!
definitely just give away anything your unsure about. As a fellow hoarder, you gotta be savage and only keep things you absolutely love! Hope this helps
Make a repair pile!! Have an afternoon of just sitting down with the telly on and sewing buttons back on etc, then you'll be able to wear things again without worrying about them falling apart :)
I don't think you should keep any of the ones you couldn't decide on! I don't think they contribute a lot to your wardrobe tbh On another note, plaid skirt goals!! One day I want to be in plaid skirt bliss too :D
I was just thinking it would be really fun to see you do a "wearing pants for a week" video or something since we're so used to only seeing you in skirts :')
Quick tip: if you put your clothes in drawers put the clothes you wear the most at the bottom and the clothes you don’t wear a lot at the top. It causes you to start wearing the clothes that you didn’t wear as much before more bc their the first thing you see in the drawer!
even tho you kept most of the skirts you still made an effort to clean out and i think that’s really admirable! i don’t have many clothes, but this video definitely inspired me to finally clean out my closet so, thank you so much!!!!
If you have space you should get some of those vacuum seal bags and then put the clothes that you only wear in warmer weather in it! Then switch it with winter clothes when summer comes around and you need them again :) Might save you some space and means you get to keep more of the clothes you love but just aren't the right season for!
Proposal: learn good folding! If you fold into little rectangles it’s easier to see what you have and it takes up only 1/2 the space! I suck at throwing out clothes so I just learned how to make them take up less room
Maybe do a video where you fix your broken/not perfect clothes? That way you have a way to keep yourself accountable and I personally like those kind of crafty videos :)
Please upload the rest of your wardobe as a series! Also, I'd say get rid of everything you're unsure of--you have so many cute skirts, you'll hardly miss them!
For the black skirt with the elastic that twist, i always sew them in place vertically with a zig zag stitch on my machine, keeps the elastic stretchy and holds it in place!
I'd like to see a series of this! Each section of the wardrobe 😁 it's so hard to get rid of clothes sometimes. I'm worse for deciding ones I want to get rid of/sell and never making them leave the house....
Do one box a video. It's a huge undertaking and you can squeeze more videos out of this task! Honestly this is so cathartic to watch someone go through their clothes and reduce their stash even if it's a tiny bit. We all have those pieces that don't work that would suit someone else better.
Something I've done with all my clothes which has helped is storing the folded items vertically in rows with the folded edge facing up so my drawers are almost like a file cabinet. I think Marie Kondo does something similar (although I don't use her folding methods I just fold how I would anyway then store them upright). It really helps you see all your clothes without digging and keep everything folded when getting clothes out. And as I put something away it's easy to push the row back and slip it into the front, almost like you load a vending machine lol
Loving clothes isn't a crime ;u; You are an inspiration for people to dress the way they want and to be confidence in all styles. Although a clean out is great dont go feeling guilty ! no one can tell anyone what they cant love and spend their monies on
MIKAN NEEDS TO KONW!! I've seen you have a very strong idea of what you'd like to wear when. Then sort your clothes based on the season!!😊 It's a common practise, Its called Capsule closet, and it means all the stuff you want to wear doesn't get lost in the clothes you'll "just wear in half a year..." Then, when a new season roles around, you'll switch to the capsule for that season. And you keep staple pieces in a seperate drawer, all of them, to have access to them all year round. It's such a Simple idea, but it really helps you wear a lot more stuff you have, that you wouldn't otherwise wear. And it gives your closet some structure. It would require for you to go through your clothes again and sort them... But i think that's a small price to pay, looking at all the benefits!🌸🌸
As someone who also has a lot of clothes (and limited wardrobe space) I tend to separate clothing by fall/winter and spring/summer. Currently, things I only wear in spring/summer are stored in a container under my bed. Every time when I swap, I try to go through and donate items I really haven't touched before putting the rest into storage for the next half year or so. I also have a box of clothes I specifically want to alter or need to fix so that I don't continue to forget about it/procrastinate ;) Just what works for me personally, I'm sure you''ll figure out something that works for you eventually too.
I definitely want to see more videos like these! Some advice - maybe sort your spring and summer stuff from your fall and winter stuff, there way it's easier to see what you have for each season. Also noticed a lot of "I want to wear this but I keep forgetting about it." Pull those items out, try to wear them for a week or two, if you never end up making outfits with them get rid of them!
This would be so good as a series. It's so relaxing, satisfying to watch and it gives a lot of inspiration. I would actually kill for the green daisy skirt
I think maybe a good idea for a video would be just you fixing all your clothes that need like, zippers changed, or clips / buttons fixed. I think it'd be fun to watch and also you would be able to find the time to actually get it done! :)
for the skirt where the elastic twists, you need to sew it to the skirt just a seam down each side will do because it's just been placed inside its not been attached to the actual skirt itself, therefore, tends to move around
So before the clean out: 57 bottoms all together: 47 skirts/petticoats 5 shorts 5 pants (Tbh I have 96 different pants/shorts/skirts and I’m a semi broke college grad in a 12x10 room sooo it’s not that bad Mikan 🥲)
You are my favorite RUclipsr and I get so exited when you post a new video lol. I really want to move to Japan in a few years. And you really help me believe that it’s possible for me to.
You should def make this into a series!! also if you could sell the clothes you plan on getting rid of I think that would be awesome. Love your video don't beat yourself up so much you gotta start somewhere girl. TBH with all your cute clothes, I wouldn't be able to throw anything away.
Honestly I’d say it’s a success. As long as it’s a little easier to close you know? Maybe keeping them neat and folded might help too. That reminds me I should probably clean out my wardrobe too since I know there’s stuff I haven’t worn in years lol.
I remember when you first got these drawers and they were half empty! you've been spoiling yourself ever since you moved out from your old apartment lol but I would totally take your entire collection of pleated skirts 🤩
I'll be honest when I saw the drawers I was like OH that is not too bad, you have way less clothes than I thought, and then I saw you pull out the HUGE DRAWER, and the oh no oh no tik tok song started playing in my head. I would get rid of the things you're unsure about. Like all of them. If you're not certain that you want to keep them, there is no use in rationalizing them staying and just throw them out. You're keeping one pair of staple shorts, one pair of staple skinny jeans, one pair of staple mom jeans, and a TON of skirts. You don't need the other pair of shorts when you hardly wear them. And you don't need the other skirts either haha. I would LOVE to see a series like this! Your dresses, your tops, maybe your shoes?? It was really entertaining. I also need to clean out my wardrobe, though I don't have nearly as much clothes, but my drawers are starting to get really full. I am considering doing a capsule wardrobe, and maybe saving items for different seasons separately. You could do that as well? It seemed part of the issue of why you had SO MANY skirts is because some of them are for spring/summer, so perhaps separating them and keeping them stored for that season would help with the drawer issue as well.
We want a series of cleaning your closet out here on youtube! I'm actually already waiting for the other parts where you clean your tops/shirts, dresses and other parts of your wardrobe!
Please do a video series!! This gave me such info on things to buy and make 😊! Also i think the pile of 'not sure' items you should just give them away!
I have this same exact issue. Too many skirts. I actually prefer to hang them on a multi-stack hanger that goes vertical and flat so that my pleated/leathery skirts don't wrinkle so badly like when you fold them. Good tip for space saving too btw!!
additional comment: please upload the closet clean outs as a series! omg this was so cathartic, inspiring and just fun to watch (:

I'm actually already waiting for the other parts where you clean your tops/shirts, dresses and other parts of your wardrobe!
Please do a video series!! This gave me such info on things to buy and make 😊! Also i think the pile of 'not sure' items you should just give them away!
i love your videos sm !! i was just watching your old closet sort through video and you just posted this one today lol
I have this same exact issue. Too many skirts. I actually prefer to hang them on a multi-stack hanger that goes vertical and flat so that my pleated/leathery skirts don't wrinkle so badly like when you fold them. Good tip for space saving too btw!!
