I mentioned your channel to my brother today and we ended up speaking for an hour - he gave me my first cards in 1994. We both became fairly good players at various points but it's amazing to look back at the tiny cardpool and see what crazy shit actually works. Trike for the win FFS?
The creature removal meta was a real thing in 1994 since there were only a handful of good removal in 94. Sengir is immune to Terror and can block Black Knight. Both were susceptible to Psionic Blast, but few decks played that.
@@TimmytheSorcerer Hehe...usually in a deck like this, a serious casual deck of mono black midrange, you usually tap Nettling Imp to force opponent to attack with their smaller creature and block with Sengir.
Back in the day, if you played a demonic tutor and put him into your graveyard before actually picking a card out of your deck, you would have wasted the spell as it counted as finished.
The Deck was not the best deck in 94 as it wasn’t even invented until 95, after Fallen Empires came out. I know this because I met Brian at a tournament and he was trying to build A deck, let alone THE deck. I won that tournament in Pasadena with mono black with 4x Hymn to Tourach, dating this event to post-Fallen Empires release.
@@TimmytheSorcerer In the FE version, all pump knights were main board. You can tell my story is legit by the next statement: we had no sideboard then. In my other post I mentioned the removal meta. In this deck, I ran 4x Unholy Strength and 4x Thrull Retainer. Often a Black Knight would have two or three of these enchantments so that the Black Knight was immune to combat damage (First Strike), couldn't be Swords'ed (Pro White), couldn't be Bolted (4 or 5 toughness), couldn't be Terror'ed (was a black creature). The deck also ran 4x Hymn To Tourach as well, so it was the first Hymn deck...so overall 3x different FE cards, 12 cards total. No Bad Moon because...well, it was bad lol. The creatures in black were at least 1 mana more in cost than white so Bad Moon was not as good as Crusade where you had Lions as a turn 1 1-drop. Other cards, 4x Hypno, 4x Drain Life, 4x Vampire Bats, 4x Evil Presence (good turn 1 play against a meta full of dual lands) 4x Dark Ritual, 1x of Mox Jet, Chaos Orb, Black Lotus, Demonic Tutor, Mind Twist, etc. Back in 94/95, Chaos Orb was your "side board" lol.
I’m not certain but I think the flyers deck is actually using BB sleeves, some of the cards have a white line at the bottom (I noticed on the mindtwist he played G1). Not for all cards but for some. Still beautiful decks.
That The Deck is just beautiful black bordered.
Stunning decks. Quick play. Fantastic video. Thank you for posting this with your commentary and tracking the life totals, Timmy!

How popular is old school mtg in Japan? How big was this particular tournament and where can I learn more about it?
You can start by looking into the description. I believe there's a link there to the twitter account of the organizer (Tokyo Old School)

Whenever my opponent gets a counter on their Vamp, I buy them a beer 🍺

That WUB deck is worth more than my house. 😵💫

Thanks for sharing. Did you also play pump knights in the sb? Were there any cool FE decks there?

Watch this, Leese. You can actually pinpoint the _second_ when his heart rips in half. Aaaaaaand.... now: 14:58
Obligatory Simpsons reference. :)
I can't believe how the loser missed certain plays. He could have won game two.
That game 1 mind twist was GG.
Seriously though that’s some crazy black boarder p0rn lol
Beautiful collections indeed 🙌
