Fortunately I had excellent doctors. This was in the 1980’s when there was no question about necessary intercession. For one thing, carrying a dead fetus, a dead baby can deplete the fibrinogen in the blood of the mother. That’s a vital blood clotting element. That happened to me and can happen to woman in that situation. For the first of these tragic losses, we were waiting for the miscarriage to soon start on its own. And it did, and you know what? I almost bled to death. My doctor then found, in a blood test in the ER, that my fibrinogen had been depleted. Consequently in our next completely unexpected tragic losses (doctors assured us that loss wouldn’t happen again - genetic testing later found why it did in 3 of our 6 children), my doctors stepped in immediately an induce because of the danger of fibrinogen depletion and to not risk my dying. But what would happen today? Would I have to nearly bleed to death, or actually die, leaving my treasured living children motherless? I wonder about this. I am honestly terrified to think of the possibility of this kind of out of control medical danger happening to any woman in this, I repeat, tragic situation. Ask Republicans about fibrinogen, what it is, why it’s important and why it’s connected to carrying a dead fetus. Definitely ask them what can happen regarding fibrinogen and what magic they use when deciding a woman is close enough to dying to have doctors intercede. It’s playing with fire. I was diagnosed with uterine cancer in 2022 based on postmenopausal vaginal spotting. The doctor needed to get samples of my uterine tissue to determine which type of cancer so we could set a date for a hysterectomy. The OB/Gyn needed to use the same process as a surgical abortion to get a sufficient sample of uterine tissue for lab analysis. That was standard care in California where I live. However, I own a second home in Ohio where that procedure would have been illegal in 2022. My cancer could have metastasized if the procedure was unnecessarily delayed in Ohio. Abortion is reproductive healthcare & should be readily available at the discretion of a woman with advice of an OB/Gyn.

In the United States and for all mothers, that works out to 17 deaths per 100k births. If mother happens to be black, her risk is higher at 43 deaths per. Of much lower risk would be a medically administered abortion, with 1 death per 100k. That a woman, or even a young girl, faced with an unwanted pregnancy can be told her life must be risked at 43 (or even 17) times the risk of the abortion alternative, feels un-American. If abortion is banned in a state a woman will die if there's some kind of medical emergency with the fetus that requires abortion to save the mothers life. So it's dangerous to make it illegal. Also if abortion isn't legal and available women will die from unsafe abortions so it's bad all around for it to be illegal Republicans have just been turning this into a sick political issue for their own political gain
