Thank you that makes perfect sense and certainly saves a lot of time faffing about with dropping feed dogs and changing the presser foot. xxx

Hello! Thank you for all of your helpful Tutorials. I have a question, ive been sewing on lace with my Juki for years without a problem, but I recently got a (Used) brother industrial machine, and the stitch is skipping. I can’t free motion sew at all. Do you have any ideas as to what the problem might be? I would appreciate any thoughts/ suggestions on this. (It sews fine with the presser foot down, but skips when I lift it) thank you again for your wonderful channel 😊

Hi Do you have any tips on hemming a stretchy lace dress? I got a dress in the other day that was super stretchy and the hem came out very wavy and thick. Not very pretty.

AllSewn Up First, look at the original stitch. Was it single straight stitch lock stitch, or a coverstitch, (looks like two straight rows on outside, zigzaggey on underside) or was it a merrow or serged edge?

It looked like it was two stitches on top with a serged edge underneath. I work in a bridal shop and all we have is an industrial machine but do have access to a serger if we need it.

AllSewn Up that is probably a "coverstitch" which is done exclusively with a coverstitch machine. Some use a double needle on a multifunction machine to replicate the "look", but it is not quite the same. If you can't do a real coverstitch, I would just hand sew a blindstitch very neatly.

Thank you. I will do hand sewing next time. I plan on opening my own shop soon and your channel is a life saver! Do you suggest I invest in a coverstitch machine?

AllSewn Up I'd would not buy one straight off. You can buy the home sewing models for around $400. I would eventually get around to getting one probably. :)
