Great camera, my favourite is the Studio set-up, and great idea having detachable arms on the shoulder rig, as many like to operate the camera as per the old film cameras or ENG (Electronic News Gathering) digital cameras used by news crews, where you can still focus manually by either using the lens ring or a Follow Focus Unit, rather than having to pre-focus and use both hands to hold the rig.

Very nice overview... Thanks guys. Just wish I could afford the setup...

Great set-up clip, my favourite is the Tripod setup as that's what I prefer using (graceful pans and tilts, etc), and it's interesting how "big" or "less mini" / "not so mini" it is when setup on a tripod.

great stuff... regarding taking full advantage of anamorphic filming on Alexa mini, does the anamorphic license alone get you the extra hieght in sensor and 4:3 mode for 2x anamorphic, or is the RAW license also needed for taking full advantage of sensor for anamorphic filming..recording format does not mater .

What size Allen key is needed for the handle, lens mounts, etc? 3mm? I lost the Allen that came with the camera and am having trouble finding a replacement that fits just right.

He says number 3 Allen a few times... I'm assuming that means 3mm?

Are the lexar 3600x the only cards that can be used with the Alexa Mini? Any other 3rd party cards that have been tested and worked ?

Here is a response from Megan, one of our tech specialists: With the latest firmware, SUP 5.2, more media is supported. In addition to the Lexar 3600x cards, the following Cfast cards are now supported:
-SanDisk Extreme Pro CFast 2.0 120 GB (model # SDCFSP-120G)
-SanDisk Extreme Pro CFast 2.0 128 GB (model # SDCFSP-128G-xxxA/B/D)
      - SanDisk Extreme Pro CFast 2.0 256 GB (model # SDCFSP-256G-xxxD)
      * SanDisk Extreme Pro CFast 2.0 512GB card with custom ARRI firmware will be available in 2018.

Im filming a short film on the mini next week. Using Zeiss CP2 lenses. Was wondering what you would suggest the best settings to use on the camera. I dont think 4k is worth it and I was thinking 2K at apple pro res 4444 in Clog mode. Would this make sense?

In my opinion (and experience), if you want to stay in 2K, you should film in 4K recording and then, edit in a 2K timeline.
The thing is 4K is recording way much more information and when is gonna be the time to colour-grade your film, you will achieve a better and more beautiful result since the 14 stop dynamic range is gonna be recorded initially in 4K. Also, 4K is more detailed, the colours are more rich, and you have the option to play with the frame size without loosing quality.
Your 2K output will look way better than if it was shot in 2K initially.

You never show a configuration without showing it for real. I mean, the first thing that came to my mind on the shoulder config was: "So, the follow focus would be where exactly?, touching your right shoulder?" and then you made a simulation to where to put it, for christ sake!, you have to show it for real.

how much cost the hole setup????

    • @DrakemeisterTech
      @DrakemeisterTech 9 лет назад +5

+Aris Patelos The camera body + Tax + Protection would be $50k, with the lens(es) easily another $15k, the MoVi is another $7k and the rig $3k, accessories, and tripod setup another $15-20k, so theoretically looking at a $90,000 setup.

The Alexa camcorders are great prosumer cameras. Too bad they only shoot 3.2k and can't be used for Netflix.
