  • One of the favorite holiday pastry treats, the nut-roll. This was always at my Grandmother's home at every holiday, and the recipe was shared down thru the family, let me share this treat with you!

    It's nice to preserve the recipes from our grandmothers, that came from the old country. That looks really good. I do remember the poppy seed rolls and buns too, from long ago. They were really good. Cheers, Donald! ✌️🇺🇦

    Oh my, my grandmother taught me how to make her nut roll . She was from Budapest, Hungry. Your recipe is very close to hers. You did a great job Don! Enjoy! 😊

      get the best pyrohes from St Marys church in Mc Kees Rocks, you got to try them--- the best! I have a friend still helping the old women make them.

    Thank you for posting this. I’ve been looking all over for nut roll, and when I find it, they went $20 a loaf. Doesn’t come even close to what grandma used to make.

    This recipe is absolutely fantastic! Actually it was your tutorial and the list of ingredients at the end. Such a nice format. Thank you very much. You made it so much easier to follow your recipe - so awesome! Thanks again. PS - in your ingredients at the end you have written - egg yokes in the filling and eggs in the dough - I made it egg whites in the filling and egg yokes in the dough. Hope it was right - turned out delicious. Sprinkled cinnamon sugar on top - so good!

    Grandma’s nut roll
    recipe for5 loaves
    Ingredients at 13:15
    3 eggs
    1/2 cup milk for yeast
    1 tsp sugar for the yeast
    2 packs yeast
    For the dough
    6 cups flour
    1 tsp salt
    3 tbsp + 1 tsp sugar
    1/2 pound butter
    3 egg yolks
    1 cup sour cream
    1/2 cup milk
    For the nut filling ingredients
    2 pounds walnuts, chopped
    3 egg whites
    2 tsp vanilla
    1 3/4 cup Sugar
    4 tbsp butter
    1/2 cup milk

    i made these a little over a week ago just like grandma made them. im back today cause im making more lul. 3 nut 1 poppy seed and 1 apricot. i spread the extra nut paste on a parchment sheet and bake till firm it will break up when cool great snack

    The ladies auxiliary and church fundraising groups in my area of the north make a similar pastry called potica. It is good, but your Grandmaw's looks delicious, Donald! Thanks for sharing!

      This is where I messed up… accidentally elevated the sugar and recipe was good except no sweetness. Had to make a glaze to add some.
