If Mitch wanted to, he could probably get a major role in a broadway musical in less than a half hour. His voice is insanely controlled and he can dance between falsetto and chest voice with ease. He quite literally could be the next major broadway powerhouse. But also, more Superfruit original music please.

That's what I was thinking. Broadway is a live audience without the hassles of traveling.
Broadway contracts are usually 6 months to a year, with eight shows a week. Pentatonix would have to replace him for at least that long. Don't know if they'd wanna give him up or if Mitch himself would wanna leave the group. No way he could do both. But I agree... his voice is Wicked! 😉
@@MacDinoland Kirsten did both when she was in Kinky Boots. They cheer each other on and support their personal endeavors. They'd make it work if that's what they really wanted to do.

For your information, the high note at 5:57 is Mitch's own rendition. Even on Broadway, the female lead usually doesn't sing that high. And if I'm not mistaken, his vocal range is what classically trained people would call a "countertenor", which means he has the capacity to sing up to the range of a soprano, and there's few men in the world who can do that really, well like Mitch does here.

Yup. There's a countertenor in my grade at school and he's insane. Like...I'm jealous of him.
Mitch can also sing in whistle register which while not very useful, makes his vocal range absurdly large.
thekendrickhuynh a lot of counter-tenor's have amazing baritone voices as well. One of my fellow choral scholars now sings first bass after having trouble with his counter-tenor voice after singing with the alto's for a year. This guy is definitely a counter-tenor. There's no way he's a light tenor - his falsetto is far too good. I'm a tenor, and I know lot's of tenors who have practically no falsetto.
Also, 5.57 is ridiculous. Amazing.
According to classic voice teaching, counter tenor range is not a male that never reached puberty. Those are either pre-pubescent boys singing in soprano or castrati, which, to my knowledge, don't exist any more due to ethical reasons. Counter tenors are men who have trained their falsettos to the point that they have power in their upper ranges.
I sing what is typically considered tenor, and in men's chorus I take the first tenor part because I can sing up to B4 in full voice. I do have problems hitting anything below C2, and frankly that even sounds gravelly when I try, but when I was in college I sang in a group with a counter tenor, and his range blew me out of the water. He could sing down to F2, and in counter tenor could go way up to G4. His vocal range was insane, and he could sing quietly or loudly at his entire range.

It’s almost 7 years but I try to listen to it everyday.
Almost 8 years later & this is still one of my favorite videos on the entire internet. I ADORE how Scott the high harmonies twice when Mitch could’ve easily done them, it was such a clever artistic choice to showcase Scott’s high falsetto, especially since Mitch sings 75% of the song solo. Even when they’re not really being serious, their talent blows me away every time. ❤️

I might be misremembering this, but I think in the play Elpheba goes low on all of the harmonies she has with Glinda except for the harmonies in “For Good”. Schwartz establishes that musical pattern so he can break it for emotional effect during their last goodbye. It’s basically a way to reinforce the meaning of the song - that relationship has had a profound influence on them both… enough that they switch places in the harmony and therefore have taken on some of each others’ characteristics.

Absolutely! I am in awe of Scotts multiple talents! Remember "The Sing Off"? Scott was the lead in almost that entire competition, and he was a total BEAST! I think the reason Mitch gets most of the comments in some of these is because of the shock and awe that Mitch can sing like this! For some of us, it was our first PTX experience.. That or the Frozen Medley. Both showcase Mitch. And he does deserve kudos for his moments. He never did this type of singing on the sing off, so it shocked fans from the time of THAT show when they heard this for the first time. No one knew. That's all. 😊
+Katie Lagarde In pentatonix and every other a capella group, every member has a role. If Kevin sings, Pentatonix won't have to the amazing beatboxing that Kevin is known for, even if the other members can beatbox. Same goes for Avi and bass notes :)

@@lucacarollo1460 Not sure but I think that since lockdown everything started to be unsure, they were on tour with superfruit and ptx and they just had to wait and in the meantime they started solo project and maybe they decided it was time to move on. Sad but I find Messer a beautiful gift and I simply return here for extra fun and beautiful music aswell

I can't get over the last bit of this song. Mitch just captivates me. It's not just the high notes he can hit, but his control and delivery. Just releasing that golden voice that washes over every thought you had in your head. It's like an energy that heals and balances YOUR energy. Dang. I sound like a hippie. But I cannot do justice to describing how beautiful and pure his voice is, (and how it effects me) with mere words. They aren't sufficient. I felt my heart beating too fast (a medical thing) in my ears! Then it leveled out to match that... Something... Whatever thing his voice does for goodness sake! Maybe, instead of breaking glass, his voice heals and centers your energy? I dunno.. But I don't ever want to have the privilege of listening to this young man sing taken away from me. 😶

I knew about Wicked but have never seen it. Well Mitch's performance had me crying. It just pulled me in and I tuned out the thrown together makeup and wig. By the end I was thinking to myself " That's right girl you don't have to bow down for anyone. That old wizard is a fake anyway. No Glenda, go with her." I know he has an unbelievable voice but his delivery was so heartfelt and believable. I also teared up when sang his solo live in Hallelujah.

Ok, so I've listened to this about 30 times in the last 3 days. And its just as good each time. All the goofiness aside, this is one of the best performances I've ever seen. Mitch is an absolute god.

First time I saw this I didn't really understand the green face and lyrics because I didn't know Wicked.
He's a countertenor, we haven't seen him reach into the 5th octave in his chest voice, but we all know he can do it. But still his highest note in his chest voice is probably like a F5 which is like Alto range

I didn't enjoy choir practice though because the teacher was a prick (he shouted at my twin that she wasn't singing loud enough until she cried) and I don't like to sing when I can't hear myself (not because I'm super conceited, but I want to be able to correct myself).

I didn't want to hear myself over anyone, but when I can't hear my own voice at all I don't know if I'm even singing the right note. Like, if I cant hear my own voice at all I could be screwing up soooo bad and have no idea..does that make more sense?
I always sang very softly though. I just meant I can't hear my own voice when I sing in a choir and if I would have known if I was singing the right note I would have enjoyed it better and sang louder.

I love how Scott is out of his comfort zone singing all these high notes, but Mitch fits so perfectly with this song! SO BEAUTIFUL!
It's not that Scott is out of his comfort zone. He's just using his falsetto as opposed to his chest voice which is what we're used to hearing him sing in. :P He's a Baritone with a hell of a falsetto.
