    Today, the Chancellor Rachel Reeves remembered another ‘gift’ of £1,600 for a 5-day Cornish holiday. It's frightening to hear her say that she forgot and only remembered today. As the ultimate boss of the HMRC, I wonder if they would let me off if I ever forgot to declare receiving £1600 as a work ‘perk’?

      I think you have answered your own question, he's not actually a very rich man but he is a prosperous member of the professional classes, i.e. barrister, DPP and now PM. Accepting donations means he doesn't have to spend his own taxed money like the rest of us so he remains prosperous. Don't forget the upto £115k annual allowance he can claim when he stops being PM and the generous pension he will get. He's going to live on freebies for the res of his life.

      I've had a VAT inspection on two occasions and each of the inspectors wouldn't/couldn't even accept a cup of tea/coffee in case it was seen as offering a favour/'bribe'.

      It's hyperbolic ridiculousness, I know, but I hope it shows you can care for your own kid, and it doesn't have to mean you don't necessarily care for others, they are not equal problems.
      Having said that, its looks pretty bad, and as BBB says, it whiffs awfully of hypocrisy. But I think it's something 99% of parents would understand if asked, with the other 1% lying.

      Which I think taking £107,000 worth of bungs as an MP let alone as Prime Minister fits that offence.

    I once believed that Kier was so dogmatically entrenched in his brand of politics, that he would actually be foolish and stubborn enough to keep his child on a NHS waiting list instead of getting them life-saving private healthcare. Sooner seeing his child perish as a political sacrifice than get him the help he needs. At the time we could only take him by his word. However now I am 100% certain that not only would he put a family member straight into private to jump the NHS queue, like anyone on his position would do, but unlike others, he would also get Lord Ali to pay for it in exchange for a Downing Street pass.

      As an Aussie i find it mind blowing he has a choice as to whether he has PI or not. Our Medicare is the same as NHS. Our government wants to keep as many out of the public system as possible. If you earn i think its around 100k you either are forced to have PI or you get whacked with more tax. As a household we pay arpund 12k a year between PI and medicare. I dont have a problem with this as it frees up space so those who cant afford PI have access to good health care. So why doesnt this guy put his hand in his pocket, pay insurance to free up space for the more needy.

    This is exactly what I’ve been saying since the removal of the vat exemption on private schools. Impact statements should be done before announcing any changes. Thank you for pointing out 😊the double standards of Starmer. It’s great to hear the politics taken out of these announcements.

    For gods sake, 20k to find somewhere his kid can do his GCSE studies in private???? Well then what the hell is chequers doing empty, his country retreat in buckinghamshire? It's fully gated and has armed security and a mile to the house in all directions in the middle of countryside. It cannot get much quieter and more remote. Awful excuse from Starmer.

      He could have used the local library. Yes - some libraries still exist, despite government efforts to eradicate them. I used my local library when I needed to do some work while building work was on-going. Free WiFi, Quiet space. Comfortable seating. What more could you want?

      Both my sons have Dyspraxia, Sensory Integration Disorder, ADHD and the eldest has Autistic Spectrum Disorder! I consider both of them to be *normal*.
      The only *NORMAL* thing is that *NORMAL* state schools DO NOT cater for children on the spectrum!
      In an ideal world there would be proper provision for S.E.N children, maybe the money raised by the introduction of VAT on the fees for private education could be used to fund proper SEN support, so that ALL children can get the best education they deserve, regardless of their parents ability to pay or not!
      Just because a parent can afford to send their child/ren to private school doesn't make that child any more intelligent than children educated in state schools! FACT!
