I know chicory became a popular substitute back then with coffee scarcity and blockades in place. A lot of different things were used in place of coffee beans, I wouldn't be surprised if mushrooms were used.

There was a guy who called my work awhile back asking if we had mushroom coffee, he'd seen something on TV about it being good for your brain. I certainly didn't feel any smarter after drinking these but I might be too dense to notice. 🤷
I believe during the civil war, coffee was in short supply. Pretty sure one of the alternatives was a mushroom coffee.

It wasn't so bad (like the video says) but I don't think I'd buy it again unless it was a different flavour to try/review.
