Nice to see you excited on your continuing pipe journey. I think that for me it’s a very aptly named tobacco-as a fire sure dances on my tongue with that one. Glad you enjoy it though. I’ve got the same Argyle pipe- love the grooves on it- cools the pipe and helps me from dropping it.
An English bloke, enthusiastically talking about niche, esoteric things. Takes me back to watching Jack Hargreaves with my Grandad. Keep it up old chap. Havanna House in Southampton is a fine old shop, and if you buy flake they will offer to rub it for you - that's service.
Having smoked the pipe for 46 years now people will tell you do it this way do it that way in all honesty do it your way youll find yhe right way dont worry welcome to the briar brotherhood
Richard I get your monologues as im going to bed, here in Australia. I love your attitude, your look and calming voice. I am thinking about taking up a pipe but my family is not awake. I look forward to your beautiful presence everyday. Thankyou. 💫✨️💫✨️
Tobacconist in England I get my online purchases from is called the black swan shoppe they have a nice selection of pipes pipe tobacco and all accessories you need. as well as 2 booklets 1 priced 20 pence the other £1. Type in book to find them on the website. Thanks Richard - from Scotland with love.
Great video, my friend. I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos, especially since I too am new to pipe smoking. I think I’ve been smoking a pipe maybe a year longer than you. The way you can get blends from the Internet is by contacting a friend who lives in the United States. You can purchase tobacco online and have them sent to that person‘s house. When you know of somebody that’s going to go to the United States or coming from the United States to England, have them stop by and pick up the tobacco that you purchased and physically bringing it to you.having a private individual send you tobacco products might get through, but it could be confiscated.
Well Richard, not far from you in Hastings in the old town I noticed a tobacco shop with some very interestng looking folk sitting outside happlily smoking their pipes and chatting. Right up you and Julias street and would make a fabulous English couple video. I dont smoke but enjoyed the smell of the pipes and watching them enjoying them. They certainly got a lot of conversations started. Go check it out?
Absolutely wonderful. I’ve really enjoyed a walk this morning and have cut some hazelnut for walking sticks and stopped by a small steam made some breakfast and enjoyed a bowl of Elizabethan mixture and lovely dark chocolate coffee as the sun was rising. Love my pipe and time in nature are never wasted 🙏🙏🏴😀
"Non smokers don't know what they're missing!" =) I've really enjoyed your vid's, and your sense of humor. I would like to hear more about what you've found out about the benefits of nicotine. I enjoy a pipe once or twice a day, especially when my wife is able to join me. It helps us bond as well as bringing our ideas together so that when we work on things around the house, we're on the same page.
My favourite pipes are Peterson and Hardcastle pipes ( still London made, I presume ). I prefer Virginia blended with Perique, as in Peterson Deluxe Navy Rolls, which used to be Dunhill Navy Rolls, which used to be, back in the 70's Copes Escudo (I think manufactured in Liverpool?). This tobbaco is sliced directly from the twist, as the Royal Navy Matelots would have drawn their rations of tobacco . I get my tobacco from My Smoking Shop in Penwortham near Preston, PR1 0DQ, who has a large range of smoking goods.
Hope you are cellaring like mad ready for smoke free Britain in 2030 - I am in UK and seriously worried about tobacco supply in the future especially pipes and cigars. Also the bonus is you end up with a great personal supply of aged pipe tobacco. I have a hardcastle pipe and love it also a big Savinelli fan. My favourite tobaccos are easily Peterson De Luxe Navy Rolls and the recently reintroduced to the UK Orlik golden sliced worth trying if you haven’t yet and easily available in the UK. Ages beautifully too.
Hello Richard firstly I must comment on your tweed jacket and waistcoat I like that intellectual look that goes in a traditional way with pipe smoking if that makes sense ( I love the nostalgia and the traditional values of pipe smoking... Sadly days long gone . That pipe with the Ivory coloured bowl just looks amazing . Anyway I managed to get a half days holiday day before yesterday ( Friday) went straight from work to Chester to buy a few pipe tobaccos from turmeaus they sell pipes and pipe tobaccos bought three different flakes . original flake . Erinmore flake and st.bruno flake . Personally I prefer the st Bruno but sadly Im still hoping to find that tobacco with the truly amazing room aroma from way back in the 1970s the room aroma was very distinctive and quite sweet totally amazing I don't know it's name or who made it but if I'm lucky enough to find it then I just know I will stick with it an old gardener I used to know smoked it and I simply loved the aromatic smell from that lit pipe was truly lovely.
One of the easiest ways, I guess you could say, is if you have family or friends in the States, you or they could order the blends you want(if you order, use their address) and then they can send it(mail it) directly to you. This eliminates the foolishness that comes with the taxation and fees from ordering online. I hope this helps! Great content, you're creating 🎉
Have a look at GQ tobacco on line the Sutliff tobaccos are American And the Molto Dole and Italian blend are my favourites along with the black Velvet. Thanks for the video keep them coming Michael
Black Swan Shoppe do separate tobaccos - Cavendish etc. The USA blends are amazing like GL Pease, but impossible to get hold of in the UK. You can get GL Pease in Germany so best to get some in Europe when you are on holiday.
I came for the pipe videos and thoroughly enjoy the rest. PiperX1X is a great YT channel. IMO with having a look at 13 Pipes & The Pedalling Piper. The tobacco rabbit hole is dark, deep & expensive. Enjoy & thanks for creating.
Buying from the USA and getting through to the U.K. is an absolute nightmare and to be honest not worth the risk any more because nine times out of ten they get pulled by customs especially if buying from smoking pipes, I’ve just been hit with a bill for £183 for two tubs of Carter Hall, I felt obliged to pay for it at the beginning as it was bought as a gift along with two tubs of Prince Albert. I questioned this with Parcel force and they said it was for the four tubs and as it turned out it wasn’t it was for only two so be very careful to purchase from across the pond. Oh and a nice Hardcastle you have there as well, you should know me and my thoughts on Hardcastles by now!
I’m not sure these days in the UK but in Mainland Europe-in Spain precisely-I have been able to get some tins from the “Special Blending Tobacco” series (by Torben Dansk): “Burley”, “Orient”, and “Latakia Special” for example. I’m not sure if I’m mixing up similar “series” within that brand, but I imagine you get my point 😅
You could always get a meerschaum lined briar. I have one, a Dr Plumb, and i'm very pleased with it. I have my eye on a Molina olive wood meerschaum lined pipe when i have the money.
Look for blending tobacco to get isolated tobacco flavors. I am a believer in the soup theory. A simple soup is nice, but sometimes you want a blast of flavors. Same idea with pipe blends.
I'm pretty sure that old Jack Hargreaves back in the day used to smoke Three Nuns tobacco that was a flake. Of course he probably smoked many brands. If I smoke a flake I usually hand rub enough for a couple of days in advance. I always change pipes between smokes and baccy left over from yesterdays pipe bowl is not that nice.
Richard, I'm really enjoying these pipe smoking videos. Been smoking a pipe a little over a year too. Hope you upload more pipe smoking videos, enjoy your personality, keep it up! Love from Chicago.
RUclips keeps deleting my comment and i have no idea why. I've tried three times. Maybe this one will stick. Just wanted to say that I'm a new subscriber. Cheers.
as always, thank you for this, I've been making and smoking my own pipes for three years now, thoroughly enjoy it, don't really have the space to grow any but may give it a go in the shed!!,
After many years of smoking my uncle has COPD. He now has to walk around the house with an oxygen tube up his nose all day. He spends a lot of time in bed and doesn't have much energy
I've smoked pipes on and off for forty odd years. It seems that the way pipes are smoked (no inhaling into the lungs) produces minimal addiction. Over the 40 years, I've stopped and started smoking the pipe, often stopping for years, with zero trouble. So in my experience pipe smoking is non addictive. Other people's experiences might be different.
Many things are ‘addictive’, especially if they’re pleasurable, as addiction is really a psychological state. The problem is the modern Western psychology, that lacks self restraint and moderation. First and foremost were bred to be impulsive overindulgent consumers.
I enjoy watching new comers go through the discovery process
That is a fantastic vest and jacket. I enjoy very much waking up to the mood you present sir.... Greetings from Minnesota
We call it a waistcoat and jacket in the UK. A vest is an undergarment worn beneath a buttoned shirt, usually as a Winter layer.
@spindelnett6315 Thank you.....I love learning

Hey Richard, I now live in Tennessee (late of England) and I notice a few of my online baccy purchases say for sale in USA only. No idea why.
A lot of the tins and pouches I have purchased say something to the effect that it is for sale in the US only. Must be a regulation thing.

Sounds like he was smoking something besides pipe/cigars.
Could be because of sugar or Lyme disease and or alcohol too or even mould.
