Sadly its gonna be probably one place down for them
The reason that Guadeloupe aren't member of FIFA is that their status is an "overseas department" of France (that is France consider it an integral part of France), while the British territories have status as "overseas territories" and not part of the UK. Greenland's status is somewhat similar to the British, it's an "autonomous territory" of Denmark, which means that Denmark only controls foreign affairs and security.
Ps.Faroe islands are also part of the kingdom of denmark(denmark, faroe islands and greenland)and are part of fifa and uefa

Big respect for the last point. When huge national teams and their fans moan about the 'minnows' they should be told "football is for everyone so get back in your box" Also, most of the same countries let tiny teams who are never going to win into their national cup competition.

They have a similar population to the Faroe Islands, if they could get up to that level then they'd certainly be able to compete with the smaller CONCACAF nations. I hope something materialises because I think this would be not just cool for the Greenlanders, but for the sport in general. Let's go Greenland, and also, what an FM save this could be lmao.
Faroe Islands would destroy the smaller concacaf nations they get draws and wins in the uefa nations league
We could see a Bolivia-style effect in CONCACAF qualifiers if this goes through. Bolivia and their clubs are famous for being much more competitive at home in continental competitions due to the altitude. Imagine a 1st round WC qualifier leg in late winter or a Nations League game where Turks and Caicos or Belize or Aruba have to go play in Nuuk. Greenland could pull out a few upsets almost solely because of the environment.
CONCACAF Nations League matches have already been played in very cold/snowy weather. The US played Honduras in Fenruary 2022 and it was -16 F windchill at kickoff

CONCACAF INTENSIFIES
The Trinidad Away days in Greenland is going to become an all time Concacaf derby 🤩
This Greenland team having ties with Denmark feels like Cape Verde in CAF where they have a heavy dual national player pool from Portugal or similar to Algeria having a heavy French dual national player pool (due to government ties and migrants for work). It’s possible this team could be competitive in Concacaf depending on how the player eligibility would work with Denmark/Greenland dual national citizenship
Fun fact: CONCACAF is the only FIFA confederation that doesn't have a major national cup competition this year. Yes, even OFC are hosting a competition this June. Why watch the Euros or Copa America when you can be a true hipster and watch the OFC Nations Cup.
Nations league isn’t a cup but it is a regional championship the US won this year.
Lfg I finally get that Honduras vs Greenland match I’ve been wanting 😐
Fun fact Greenland already participates in the North America and Caribbean Handball Championship granted it's a different sport but I imagine they should not have too many problems figuring out how to make the travel work.
Fun fact - Greenland actually boasts a Handball national team that almost qualified for the World Cup. They lost in the Finals of North & Central American qualifiers to the USA 33:26
They actually qualified three times in the past. 2001, 2003 and 2007.
Still annoyed the ConIFA World Cup (the World Cup of unrecognized territories and specific people groups) got canceled this year. Would've been hype. I got the Sámi national team jersey and everything!
Day 2 of asking Zealand to make a video about Olympiako's Conference League win and crazy run winning the first european trophy in Greek's football history
Hmm - are they going to suck though? Depends on the selection criteria and what they want to do, but as Greenland isn't an entirely independant nation, and thus a Greenlandic passport is the same as a Danish passport and vice versa in many regards, could they maybe call up Danish players? The Danish national squad for this summer's championship didn't include a single player from the Danish national league, so there might be a pretty decent talent pool that could do pretty well in CONCACAF if they could convince them that they are serious. And even if they can't call up just any Danish player, there is probably quite a lot around, that will have some links to Greenland, that would make them eligible.
The reason they weren't allowed into UEFA is because they aren't a sovereign nation. The reason those other teams (ie Scotland, Faroe Islands, Gibraltar etc) are in UEFA is because they joined before the rule was bought in.
In fact Gibraltar had to go to CAS to be allowed to join as they applied before the rule was introduced but UEFA were refusing to allow them to join as they obviously aren't independent.
why am i hearing the news from zealand, and not from our local newssources
It’s a real shame if Greenland doesn’t get into UEFA as we’d love to see San Marino vs Greenland
Bring that Greenland Cup video Zee! This is what we wake up for. Especially since Prem is transforming into a weirder version of the Bundesliga
3:24 That wouldnt be possible. To host a champions league final, you would need a UEFA 4 star certification
He talks about the pitch/grass quality not the stadium as a whole.
@@thargoffhe literally said (paraphrased) based on the quality of the pitch AND UEFA rules, the stadium could host the champions league finals, barring security and seating concerns. So he was talking about the stadium as a whole and not just the pitch.
UEFA has a star based criteria to determine what could host certain events and the criteria aren't just based on pitch quality. It's also about stadium capacity and the meeting the minimum requirements for amenities like VIP seating, referee dressing room size and press-exclusive areas. Stuff that this stadium would sorely lack to even host any European final since those stadiums need to be 4 star rated
@@zsac18 yeah, UEFA rules for pitches...
@@thargoff the Nuuk Stadium pitch is 101x70 metres. It wouldnt even meet UEFA 3 star qualification because those pitches need to be rigid 105x68. Nuuk has an artificial pitch and UEFA 4 star requirements calls for a natural grass pitch. Even by the pitch standard, the stadium cant host an european final. You need to educate yourself before talking nonsense...
Just because the pitch is legal to hold sanctioned matches doesn't mean it can host EVERY sanctioned match, yet alone a major continental/international final.
FYI, Iceland is not the closest country to Greenland. Greenland actually has a land border with Canada on Hans Island. And, even without that the Kennedy Channel between Greenland and Canada is only 16 miles wide at its narrowest point
Zealand not wearing a jersey? He's fallen off.
I’m so down for an away day in Nuuk.
According to World Football ELO Ratings...Greenland are rated at 192...1 place behind Liechtenstein, and 2 in front of Bermuda. In 1993 they beat Gibraltar 5-0, 2001 saw them beat Tibet 4-1 and Falklands 4-0. Last year they lost 2-3 to Bermuda.
I've always wanted Guernsey, Jersey and Isle of Man to be allowed to join UEFA...All 3 countries have their own Postage Stamps, Money and Parliaments.
Jersey applied to join UEFA in 2015, but was voted against.
I'd also love to see Falklands be able to play somewhere, but the South Americans wouldn't want them.
Concacaf is about to have teams in Europe, North America, Central America and South America
the word you're looking for i think was "sovereign" rather than autonomous
Greenland do already have a national handball team, btw. And they have qualified for the World Championship 3 times! Their best result was a 20th place out of 24 in 2001.
They do participate in a number of sports. Bit of an embarrassment for the IBU (biathlon), when Ukaleq Astri Slettemark won the women's 10k event in the 2019 Junior World Championship, and the organizers had neither the flag nor the national anthem available.
Hype about this ngl. Morten Rutkjær was my coach for a couple of years and i also got to work with him for a very short period. I might rememeber wrong but he is one of the people that set all this with Greenland in motion. I really hope it works out.
Puerto Rico of course has a team and is not a sovereign nation.
The hypocrisy though: Faroe Islands are also owned by Denmark. The sane rules should apply!
Babe wake up new Trinidad and Tobago just dropped

Curazao is a constitutent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, having the same status the Netherlands itself in the kingdom.
French Polynesia (aka Tahiti) is an oversea collectivity and as one it has a little independence.
Guadaloupe, French Guiana and Martinique are oversea departments and as such are just deparments, as Corsica, Occitane or Normandy, and that why they cannot join FIFA.
As far as I understand, as long as the nation in power (ie France, Netherlands and Denmark) aren't in the world cup, then the smaller nation can go if they qualify.
I want to watch a Greenland Vs my Dominican Republic match.
Greenland play in the Island Games - which is a fantastic multi-sport tournament which once included possibly the worst ever international team - Sark. Sark is so small that pretty much every able-bodied man need to play for them to have a team. They lost every game. Quite badly.
Sark even played Greenland in 2003... and lost 16-0.
Nah, honestly, I don't see what's so crazy about this. Greenland is geographically part of North America and has roughly the same population as the Faroe Islands, another territory of Denmark, who've had their own national team for decades. The only crazy part to me is that Greenland haven't applied to a confederation sooner.
Correction: 2 star stadiums are not qualified to host the CL final nor the europa league final. You need a 5* for that.
NY Times just did an article on this today. I think Greenland are getting closer to joining FIFA and CONCACAF. I for one would welcome them into our confederation.
Look at San Marino, and the dedicated fan base they have. It truly doesn't matter if you suck. San Marino will one day win their first international match, and they will celebrate, because that's a good thing to be proud of.
San Marino is the worst national team in the world. Greenland can get there, too, and maybe they can get further.
As a Hawaiian Football fan, this annoys the absolute fuck out of me that places like Greenland, Monserrat and Guam can have team there own teams but we can’t. Congrats to Greenland tho! 🇬🇱
