    A small comment on the power limits of different GPUs - they vary greatly by brand and model, and aren't always easy to find out - so if you are buying a card with the intention to heavily overclock, do your research on its overclocking potential to avoid nasty surprises!
    This in particular is the waifu's card and will be likely run at stock - so doesn't matter much.

      I know that this was a joke, but I wouldn't recommend overclocking a laptop. The only thing it's going to do is increase the temperature with little to no performance increase. In a worst case scenario it's going to severely shorten it's lifespan. Hope you're not actually overclocking your laptop. :)

      You can't automatically tested it sadly, it has to be in the good old manual overclocking way. Both are important, though core clock maybe a bit more. But you can overclock both, you dont have to choose one or the other :) I'd do the core, and if it's stable, then do the memory.
      As for the fans... Unless you have a very high end GPU running at high resolution and settings, I'd just leave it on auto. GPU fans are probably the loudest part of the PC, having them on full blast every time would drive you crazy. Fan curves and temperatures only start being an issue when you get to 2080/2080ti levels. Even at 100% load my 1660ti overclocked never goes over the 60 C's, and you only really need to worry at 75-80 :)

    @Attic PC Guy So the MSI OC Scanner won't work for the MSI GeForce GTX 980 Ti? If it doesn't work for that card is there a third party OC Scanner out there that can overclock the 980 Ti automatically without me attempting to do it manually?

    • @AtticPCGuy

      The only other OC software I've tried is EVGA Precision X, it's not bad, but Afterburner is definitely the best one out there. I don't remember the EVGA one having an Auto tool like that, but I haven't checked it in some time.
      I'd suggest giving it a go at manual overclocking - it's not very difficult, and it's nearly impossible to do any damage to your card. Just don't set Afterburner to automatically start with windows until you're sure the OC is stable so you'll always be fine

      Mine is a Ventus XS; each of the different models might have slight differences in the cooler and power delivery, which is why they enable different power limits. It could probably handle more power, but they want to play it safe I suppose.
      And yeah, you can definitely achieve better doing it manually; OC Scanner seems to always go lower (probably) to ensure stability - it's mostly aimed at people who don't want to risk manual overclocking, and wouldn't be willing to go through troubleshooting / fine tuning the overclock :)

      Can't say I've had people asking about those values before, it does seem unreasonably low. I can't accurately troubleshoot it, but my first impression is you have 3 options:
      1) Make sure the card is seated correctly, reinstall afterburner just to make sure everything is ok, and try again (this probably won't change a lot, but just in case)
      2)You've gotten unlucky in the silicon lottery, and got a card that doesn't overclock well (or is faulty). If it's stable at default settings you can't do much, just keep using at default. If you're having issues at stock settings, consider asking to have the card replaced.
      3)Assuming the card is stable at stock, try running it for a while with the settings OC Scanner gives you to see if you actually have issues. Could be the software getting wrong values. It won't damage your GPU, worst case scenario you'll get a black screen sometime - just reboot (in safe mode in necessary) and get rid of Afterburner to fix it. Overclock settings are saved on Afterburner, not your card, so that'll be enough to fix it.
      I'd try #3, but I can see how that might make some people nervous. The safest thing to do if you're not sure, is just to keep running it at default settings, and if there's issues then, to try to get a replacement from the store.

    • @AtticPCGuy
      @AtticPCGuy  4 года назад +1

      I normally just keep my settings 24/7, when the card is not under load, it wont matter anyway, it will not use extra power when idle; and when it is being used, you probably want to enjoy the overclock I assume.
      If you only want it overclocked sometimes, the middle button on the UI, under the fan speed slider, resets the settings to default. I'd save the OC profile to one of the save slots before reseting, so you can easily go back to it when you want. Afterburner also keeps working with the settings you last used until you change them, or until the PC reboots.
      It'll depend on your use case if you want the OC always on or not, but it's probably a lot of work to always switch it on and off, and you don't really get any benefit from it.

    Im unable to move the core voltage, power limit, and temp limit sliders. Can someone help?

      I can try - on your Options under General, Where it says compatibility properties, do you have all options enabled (other than Force Constant Voltage, that stays off)?
      If you do and it still doesn't work, mind if I ask the brand and model of your card?

      @@vex5056 It might also be a driver issue (installing an older driver could help, but I cant guarantee that).
      However even if you got it working, I dont think you'd get great results , sadly - laptop GPUs don't overclock very well, because of the limit power/cooling that laptops usually have :/

      @Kevin Roghart understandable to be cautious ^^ It started being supported in afterburner version 4.6.0, found at least an article here about it - pcper.com/2019/01/nvidia-oc-scanner-now-supports-pascal-gpus/

    dosent maxing ur voltage by it self up temps

    • @AtticPCGuy
      @AtticPCGuy  5 лет назад

      It does, but there's enough headroom in most cards that the stock cooler can handle it. In my case it went from 59C to 61, which is still pretty cool - it won't start being an issue until the high 70's, and besides, the fans weren't even going at full speed, so there's always the option of turning them up a bit to compensate :)

    • @jaspervn4722
      @jaspervn4722 4 года назад

      make the voltage max overclock your card and slowly lower the card because the temp will go down and you might be able to get a better clock speed also it makes your card last longer
