One thing I would recommend doing in a future video: film some shots with balls in each category in the situation you would use each category. You could even film some shots with the “wrong” ball and explain why it is not the best ball for that situation. Buying the right bowling balls is just one half of the equation…knowing when to use each reaction type/strength is the other.
I like your approach! I'm 66. 14-15 mph, low rpm (200-250?). On Fresh oil, I start with Radical Crypto (solid sym, strong cover) for oil traction and smooth curve. As lane dries out some, I move left. When the lane becomes too dry and closes my Crypto pocket window, I switch to Radical Innovator (asym pearl, sharp hook) to skip through diminishing oil and reach my breakpoint for the Inno's hockey stick hook angle into the pocket. When lane becomes too dry for the Inno to reach the proper length, I switch to Radical Sneak Attack (sym hybrid, mild hook) and move right and play straight up the lane from 3rd to 2nd arrow. If lane is burnt to begin with, I start with Sneak Attack, play right\straight and cope, relying on my Radical Spy to keep me sparing.
I think you should continue this video, or keep that chart updated, with each release, that you review over the year. A lot of us, understand and agree with your definitions, but we don't get to throw every ball, so we have a signigicantly harder time differentiating the motions within each box. So, if you kept this chart, and at the end of each review added the new ball to where you feel it fits, it would be incredibly useful. Just my .02
He says where every ball fits in his review. He can't put every ball in there or you won't be able to see anything but a giant blob in each box. Can't just put single ball somewhere in a box because some of it is subjective, as far as where EXACTLY it fits.
Good topic. Always useful. The word "strong" is tricky though. Confuses a lot of people. I think it's better to use "early"/"late". You already use "late" so it fits .Also "strong" and "mid" are not corresponding to "high volume/low volume". The "mid" would have to be "medium volume", and for low volume, hence dry conditions, it could be "Weak". Details and semantics, but if we have to talk about them, there's no escaping them . Your table reminds a bit of how Chris Barnes selects arsenal, but i think he makes it even more simple. I think he described it in one of the Beef n Barnzy shows. Great video. Would be nice to make more examples on that table for other brands as well. Thanks !
Great video and insight Tamer. I'm actually in the process of rebuilding my arsenal and don't want to hoard equipment. I ended up with so many mid-control pieces and overlap. Really trying to make educated choices this time around.
Thank you. Your realization is exactly why I wanted to do this. Lots of cool balls but what they do and how they fit is important to avoid confusion when you’re bowling and need a specific reaction.
I absolutely loved this video. I stumbled onto it and there are probably more on this topic I need to watch. It’s so hard with so many balls coming out each month. I just when I see a new ball, want to know where it fits in my arsenal, especially for league play.
Thanks! Glad it helped. It can definitely get confusing with so many balls but simplifying to basic shapes and intents in the bag streamlines the way you think about it.
Thank you. The hardest thing is that you get so many different opinions on just about every aspect of bowling. You just don’t know who to trust. One video from a well respected two pro bowlers say that if you are leaving ringing 10’s (sevens on my side) your ball needs to be stronger and begin to hook earlier in the mid lanes with less energy through the pins. Another well known bowler says, no, just the opposite, your ball needs more energy through the pins to keep it from deflecting away from the 8/9. Uh, okay, an there are twenty other opinions. It’ s hard enough to see my ball shape with old eyes much less make instant decisions as to a ball change (hence surface change) to accomplish a good correction. So any thoughtful explanation of shapes etc are always appreciated. Thanks
@@TheGreatConstantini It's not the easiest thing and even the most experienced will get it wrong sometimes in terms of reading transition. You will constantly be building a personal library of experience of what happens and what you need. So yes my arsenal building gives you the ability to build a bag relative to the needs but you still have to understand what and when you need it. Leaving corner pins are always a symptom of something but it is not a perfect science in terms of interpretation. You can try to glean things like ring 7 means you are coming behind the headpin a bit, i.e., you need a bit earlier roll, e.g., more surface. Or flat 7 meaning the ball is hitting flat, i.e., you need a little cleaner reaction, but again it's not perfect and automatic. Keep working to build up your knowledge and you'll continue to get better at interpreting.
I appreciate the 3-ball bag grid. I'm a two-handed lefty. I have the Helios as my strong control, an Axiom drilled more aggressively for my strong defined, and a Hustle Wine as my mid defined. I am looking into a Gem so it would definitely take over as an even stronger defined ball.
That's a very good question. This tends to really be dependent on the lane, the pattern, and where you have to play the lane. But ball reaction is your guide in the case of defined vs control shape. So let's say you are playing more direct and your defined shape is giving you some over/under, that may call for a smoother shape to control the pocket. Say you need to open up the lane a little bit but you find your control ball just not having enough pop, then a more defined shape may increase your carry. You have to pay close attention to the way your ball is going through the pins. The only reason to build an arsenal with as many balls as 5 or 6 would be to differentiate and give you more flexibility. However, if a bowler still struggles to read the lane, they may be better served to keep it to 2 or 3 until they learn enough to say, "hey it would have been nice if I had a ball that was the same strength but just made a sharper move" or vice versa.
Love this concept for arsenal building! I'm currently rebuilding my arsenal in 15# and have a helios paired with a Phaze 4. I have a chance to pick up a Hustle Ink (was one of my favorites); thoughts on that rounding out a three-ball bag?
Thanks. Hustle Ink is in the Mid Control zone so yes it could but depends on your game. For a little higher rev rate or rev dominant style, I think that makes sense. For me personally, I find the Hustle Ink not quite strong enough to round out a 3 ball arsenal in my mid control. I might do a Zen for me, or even a HyRoad. IQ Tour as an option not too far from an Ink.
@@TamerBowling gotcha - I’m about 17-18mph off my hand, revs around 415-420, medium rotation, low tilt. Really, I’m looking for something I can throw later in a block when the lanes are burnt. Had a chance to throw the P4 on a pretty dry/beat up pattern and I couldn’t keep it from going through the face
Holy cow this really changed my thinking about all the equipment I have. I needed this!! Tamer, I do want to ask, is your jackal legacy really in the defined position over the control position? Would you say your jackal legacy is angular as a solid coverstock?
Thanks. Glad it helped. That part of the video showing the proton and legacy in the box and where they fit really helps clarify this point. Within each box there is a range of reactions. They both fit there but the legacy is smoother than the proton. Doesn’t change that if you wanted one ball in that box, you pick one of them. Anything you put in your bag will be relative to the next box, not relative to some other ball on the market per se. So if I have the legacy for example, and I had a forge flare next to it, there would be a nice gap in terms of backend motion and the legacy is clearly more angular than the flare. But say I’m bowling on a high volume sport shot and I know mid late is not coming into play for the night, I might bring a proton and a legacy because I may want just a small difference in shape at the top. Then I’ll also have slightly different surface finishes to distinguish them further. Now you have a nuanced bag for a high volume pattern in that example.
Thanks this really helped I've gotten to the point where I have 23 balls and I carry eight but I watched this and thought and decided 1.reality 2.zen soul 3.infinite physix 4.volatility torque 5.phaze 2 6.honey badger revival 7.ufo alert 8.ice
@@jamesrunions9010 as long as they each have a clear spot and you know when to use what, that’s the goal. At initial look it seems reasonable but you could argue there is some overlap. Since you’re going with 8, it’s probably fine to have some overlap. If you were going 6, you’d have to drop something obviously.
How do you think about urethane with this method? Saying that a urethane is intended to handle higher or lower volumes seems like you have to intentionally disregard the fact that urethane doesn't absorb or "handle" oil at all- it just gets it out of the way with surface grit. Maybe the grit of the urethane would scale it up and down the chart?
Good question. I didn't address urethane as I believe it fits in the specialty category (ball 6). May be worth a different video since there are nuances within that reaction nowadays as well. But generally most people get no benefit out of having multiple urethane balls in the bag. However, as mentioned in another comment below, I was asked about developing a urethane bag and that is possible with the variations in available balls.
Enjoyed the video. I already have a legacy and fatal venom. I want an altered reality, phase 2 and 4. Fast pitch. I think I'm missing a controlled mid. Any suggestions? Venom shock?
Thanks. I definitely like the venom shock there. It’s sometimes a bit more angular than I want there and sometimes a bit too strong if you freshen the surface. Zen is very versatile so another option there.
The short answer is the RG, Dif and coverstock of the ball. Finding a Pro Shop Owner (PSO) you trust and discussing with him what you are looking for to achieve your overall goal can also help. You also need to understand what type of bowling style you have; stroker, tweener or cranker as this will help the PSO when drilling and selecting the ball.
In my videos I comment on where I think they fit. Obviously bowling style, conditions, etc. dictate what you need. If you’re just starting, talk to your local PSO and get a benchmark “mid control” ball to start. Then build around it once you know what it does.
With the rev dominant style I’d probably create something like what’s in the “low volume” example because of the extra motion already created. I had done a ripcord flight for mid control and fatal venom mid late with pride as strong control for example.
I'll chime in as well... Being very rev dominate also... I've developed a 4 ball bag, but I only bring 3 based on where I know I'm going to bowl... I have a Strong Control (DV8 Decree), Mid Defined (Storm Hyroad), Mid Control (Venom Shock), and a Mid Late (Motiv Hydra).. One house I go to is light oil and high friction, so I drop the Decree for the Hydra... but the other house where I bowl league plays more slick and higher volume. So I take the Decree and Leave the Hydra... If I'm going somewhere that I don't know the condition, I'll usually bring the Hydra and save to Decree for League. Open play tends to run beaten down... But in 99% of scenarios the Hyroad or the Venom Shock is in play
You typically want to stay away from angular but the oil pattern and lanes your bowling on are important and last week I as a two hander really wish I had an asymmetric ball. But lets move on. I’m just going to say your building a league bag and I’ll go from the bottom up. I personally do a 4 ball bag. Spare for certain. I actually have two. I have the spy and the Ice. I had a lower volume season and the plastic balls really helped me but my spy can also go really straight so I’m thinking of dropping my Ice. Next ball from the bottom is a must have for high rev two handers and it’s the Radical Counter Attack Solid. I have mine drilled using the 2LS Storm Benchmark layout and I wish I had a couple more to drill one stronger and weaker. But don’t be afraid to drill this strong unless your speed is just really low. I also really suggest you start using the 2LS layouts for your balls. It’s been great for me. The step up for mid control can go a ton of ways. DV8 damn good verge is a nice ball that’s a step up from the Counter Attack. But it’s one step higher. Two steps higher is the Knockout black and blue for some heavier patterns. These balls handle over under and are all very controllable. There’s no pearls which come off the dry too hard and leave that 3-6-10. Don’t be afraid to use a sanding pad to get just the reaction you’re looking for.
Ball reviewers like Tamer and Luke get this question far too often. Ultimately, where you bowl, lane surface and how you bowl are the most significant variables. Tamer knows know of this. You say "rev dominant" but that can be 250 revs forward at 12mph or 500 revs at 16 mph. And everywhere in between. That is before getting into axis tilt and rotation. I bowl at 5 to 6 different houses a month. My arsenal changes accordingly based on oil and friction response. Best to defer to your local pro shop for this reason. He can give you, in a general sense, which box a ball falls into. Can't give you an idea where it is relative to other balls, based on your stats, drilling and other balls. If that makes sense. There is no "perfect" math to arsenals, or bowling for that matter. Too many variables.
Great video as always. Love the detail. As someone who is more or less redoing much of their arsenal on the fly, it helps me realize what may or may not be too much overlap in certain spots... and a lack of stuff in others. I notice that you have a big core asym pearl not super super far from a medium sym pearl or two. Is that normal to have those closer than... say... a big asym solid and a medium benchmark solid?
Yes sometimes asym or sym, relatively big cores with shiny covers aren’t too far apart. Surface is still numero uno. Some symmetric cores are really big and they do pick up some asymmetric when drilled. Axiom pearl for example was an easy mid defined ball as it had the shape that fit there.
Thank you! Your situation is different isn’t it😉. In the end you’re probably trying to do something similar but in a very narrow window. You could theoretically do something like Hot Cell, purple hammer, and fever pitch. So you go super early read, medium read with some angle, then cleaner with more angle.
@@TamerBowling Thank you! I have all of those balls and can definitely try it! Hey, when will you do a review of the trusty old Pitch Black? It seems to be a forgotten ball but it has won more tournaments then any other modern urethane ball. I finally got one a few months ago and was utterly shocked at its performance! I almost shot 300 with it. It is a deceptively simple and powerful ball. You can check me out throwing mine here: ruclips.net/video/VpIk5-ZfLbA/видео.html
Thanks! If you look at the part where I put all the balls in the boxes you can see there is some overlap. Now I think you could add it but you have to be careful as it will start to get harder to figure out when you need which ball when they are all starting to get pretty close to each other in purpose.
For me, I wouldn’t bring the pride and phaze ii, I’d pick one. Same with the shock and zen. Doesn’t mean there aren’t scenarios where it’s possible but as mentioned, it starts to get more tricky.
Since you have throw these two ball, where you put them in those four squares. UC3 and Purple Hammer. Sorta know where the UC3 might go but unsure in the Hammer
Would it be fair to say my Proof Hybrid would fit under the strong defined, Proof Pearl under mid defined and the new Heat would be mid control in a 3 ball arsenal?
Go scarlet knights! I would say that’s reasonable. Proof hybrid probably straddles the line between strong and mid defined. But if it serves the purpose for you that’s what matters. You could add surface for example to push it up into strong defined even further if needed. The others are really good fits in those slots.
@@TamerBowling I have another question. I read the article about changing from 15 lbs to 14 lbs. I don't have a medical issue but I want to increase my speed. What really is the difference, both positive and negative, going up or down in weight. I've been reading mixed reviews. I'm starting to think it depends on the person. When should someone change, either up or down. Love your channel.
@@Braveheart0484 Hit between 15 and 14 is slightly different but fairly negligible overall when you balance ball dynamics. Traditionally people will say use the highest weight that's comfortable because weight still imparts "free" force, if you will. But if you can increase ball speed, that makes up for that. Speed changes other dynamics too. The thing I found was while my speed went up initially, it winds up the same in the long term because you will have a natural cadence. If you want to increase speed, you will want to build a muscle memory for that with a few steps. Foot speed helps ball speed for example.
Thank you for the video! I have a question! How about layouts? Do you keep the same layouts for all balls? Or 2 different layouts for defind and control?
Personally I use the same layout. It’s a personal preference. I like to keep it simple as it isn’t a big enough of a factor to move the pin say 1/2 an inch or whatever.
I think a lot of this depends on how much (or little) rotation you have. I have less than 350 RPMs so for me there's no point to have any symmetrical balls in my bag. The only symmetrical ball I have is a Brunswick Twist and that's for when the lanes have turned into sandpaper. Everything else is asymmetrical, and there's no point for me to have a urethane ball; don't have the rotation for it.
Great video simplifying your arsenal for 3, 4 or 6 balls! ... Suggestion for future ball reviews might include more Hammer balls (Hammer has been releasing some very good pieces) - The Obsessions are amazing. I drilled the Obsession and shot over 700 three times my first three series with it 🙂 ... You and I are almost identically matched as far as bowling style and specs but I am right handed.
Thanks for the feedback. We used to do the ebi family but after the Brunswick buy out, they don’t work with independent reviewers. Unfortunately we can’t test everything without some help. It is disappointing as I’m sure there is plenty of decent equipment but that’s the situation. So I may pick and choose but gets quite costly.
Just found your video as my season has ended and I bowl 3 leagues and def struggled. Monday night (synthetic med oil vol)- 219 avg dropped to 209) Wed night- (synthetic, higher vol) 215 up to 224. Best I've done since bowling there. So this house isnt the problem Friday night- (wood lanes med vol oil) 221 down to around 210. So you see where my issues are. My current arsenal is >Prism solid (burns up early mon and fri, great for Wed) >Phaze 2- ( rolls out or flat mon, good wed, too strong at times fri after game 1) >Hustle RAP- my late or longest ball. So what am I missing. I feel I'm missing 1 or 2 balls. I have at home NIB trend NiB axiom pearl NIB IQ TNP Then coming soon UC2 (spectre replacement) Gem and Zen ( 2 trend 2 replacements) ***So what ball or balls would you add to my current arsenal??? Hi Tamer, came across this video when I was looking to see if 900 global reality is needed in my 6 ball or 3 ball arsenal for league and open play. I heard a shiny reality is the cheat code from stu and simo. would the shiny reality still fit in the strong defined category or would it move down to mid defined since its shined up? I'm trying to figure out if I should get it as I have a dark code with surface of 500->1000->Step2. Thanks for any feedback. my current arsenal: strong defined: dark code with surface (500->1000->Step2)? or Out of box Reality? strong control: TNT mid defined: Shiny Reality??? or dark code w/ 1500 polished? mid late: hyroad pearl mid control: Zen Undetermined catergory ball: Hustle Wine
If you use my arsenal building methodology in its simplest form, you would do OOB Reality for strong defined and dark code for mid defined. Yes if you shine the Reality it will drift it towards mid defined but it will still be stronger than the dark code. The thing is while a shiny Reality maybe great, it does move it out of the category and step on another ball's toes. It's still different but is it different enough? Perhaps but then you are left with only 1 ball in the strong category the TNT. Is that sufficient for the conditions you face? You'll have to contemplate that.
And just to add further, taking a Dark Code all the way to Step 2 will still keep it in mid defined. It would only be strong defined if you left some rough grit like 500 or 1000.
@@TamerBowling Thanks Tamer, Looks like if I get the Reality, I should keep it as OOB so that I dont have a gap in a 6 ball arsenal. For my 3 ball arsenal on heavy volume(league), will be reality, TNT and Zen. For open play/low volume i'll prob lean towards TNT, Zen, Hyroad Pearl, thoughts of my potential two 3 ball setup?
I am a noob when it comes to building an arsenal since I have only been bowling about 1 1/2 yrs now. I have built a 6 ball set, all 14lb (except 1 is a lighter practice ball I use for warmup before league, or for working on form and function practice, not mentioned here). I have a Proton Physix, Zen Master, Radical Innovator (original), Zen Pearl and a plastic spare ball. I also have a Blue Coral Venom but I haven't been able to get that to work too well as I think I have the wrong layout on it. I would love to see how you think these 5 balls would fit into your chart (Proton Physix, Zen Master, Innovator, Zen Pearl, Blue Coral Venom). I am just curious how well I have built out my arsenal being so new to the sport. Keep in mind also, I am a 60yr old, 1 hander, with a USBC average of 178, relatively high rev rate, medium ball speed. My layouts are all "most versatile" being typically 45x4x35 (except my Blue Coral Venom)
Seems like a pretty solid arsenal. Proton physix strong defined, radical innovator mid defined, zen master strong control, zen mid control. Blue coral fits in mid control but if the zen is working better, you may just not sync up with the ball motion of it. You could potentially add a mid late ball like an iq tour pearl. Given your average, I would continue working on fundamentals as well. Glad you’re enjoying the sport!
@@TamerBowling -BAM! .. thank you so much for replying to me!!! .. I have left this type of comment on other various videos but nobody ever responds. This is excellent information for me. Thank you so much!! .. I really appreciate it! .. I am just learning about patterns, transition and how to adapt. It can all get really confusing at times. I am getting better at dealing with transition but lots yet to learn. I usually start league out with either Proton Physix or Zen Master, and move into Innovator or Zen as the lanes transition. That has been working pretty well, most of the time. Last Friday night league (3 person, 9-pin no-tap) I started with Zen Master and just stayed with it, playing a flatter release (less axis rotation) for most of the series until about the last 7 frames of the last game where I found I need to hook the lane more (found just the right marks (30 feet, 15 eyes) and it worked out well. So trying to train and learn to control axis rotation and speed to get the ball to shape correctly for what is needed. Worked well for me Fri where I was able to throw a 658 series (3 game). Learning 🙂 .. thank you for your help .. I REALLY appreciate it! .. it let's me know that I am at least somewhat on the right track. I am looking at getting a Radical Zig-Zag when they are available, I think that might fill a gap at the top of my arsenal when the lanes really transition. That's where I struggle most.
@@TamerBowling - I am bowling 1 fun league (9-pin, no-tap) and 2 USBC leagues mostly. Those are all house patterns. And since they are leagues with all sorts of bowlers, we get a strange mix sometimes, and people throwing urethane when they really shouldn't (screwing up the lanes). I don't understand why people throw urethane on a house pattern, other than they see pro's throwing urethane on television, but they don't seem to understand why the pro's are using urethane. Anyway, sometimes our lanes transition really goofy. Sometimes they will hang on and not transition too quickly (which is nice), but then all of a sudden, WHAM!, they change practically every other shot. I have a tendency to over hook as the block progresses, which is why I am trying to learn better axis rotation and speed control so I can deal with the lanes later in the block. And also trying to fine tune a good ball for that time of the block. I am pretty happy with the ball choices I have made so far, and they work really well for most of the block, but currently my worst spot is late in the block, trying to fill that gap with both ball and skill.
Ghost strong defined. Flare strong control. Nemesis mid defined. Pride mid control. Supra mid late. Purple specialty. Sounds like a perfect arsenal build.
I’m looking at building an arsenal but I already know which balls I kinda wanna get but I just need to know if these are the best options to make a bag. It’s definitely more than 6
@@TamerBowling yeah so the list I’m looking at is fate, exotic gem, dark code, phase 2, night road, ice, pitch black, rubicon uc3. So I was just wondering if this would be a good bag to have or is there something I should know when picking between these bowling balls to pick out the ones I really need for an amazing arsenal
@@TamerBowling I also have a 4 ball bag with Motiv bowling balls. I have a fatal venom, top thrill, pride and a laser sniper, I wanted to add 2 more balls to fill the bag plus making sure I have every ball I need to fulfill a great Motiv bag. So what else would be a great addition to this other bag?
@@AmericanGangstaSociety2023 I would say if you look at this arsenal building, the answer is you have a bit of overlap. For example, even while the Fate, dark code, night road, fatal venom, top thrill are all slightly different, they all fit in the Mid Late category. That means that picking between them is going to be in small nuances. So it would seem overkill to bring all of these. I would pick maybe 2 at most from that category. Same with Phaze 2 and Pride. Different balls but in the same category. So you might want to basically try to fit each ball you have in one of the categories in the boxes and then say to yourself, am I missing something? What overlaps. That's when you'll know what your bag should look like.
@@TamerBowling see I wouldn’t put it all in the same bag. So I would have 2 separate bags, one for Storm and one for Motiv. I would be switching between the two. So that’s why I’m trying to build 2 different bags. I hope this all makes sense
There's definitely a difference in building an arsenal for a lefty, than a righty, would you agree? Our line lasts longer, but we have to find it or create it much faster.
For sure there are nuances about building the arsenal between lefties and righties, higher vs lower revs, higher vs lower tilt, conditions, etc. But if you solidify a core 4-6, you can learn to manage via speed, hand adjustments, lane play, etc.
@@stellaraudioaz for sure. The nice thing is factory finish tends to be geared towards the intended purpose of the ball and that purpose is the box. So if the bowler were to start with a fresh arsenal you’d probably wind up with about 2k in the strong zone and some kind of shine or sheen for the others. But letting a strong defined ball lane shine and never freshening the surface will leave you a gap eventually since it brings itself down towards the bottom of the box or even the mid defined box.

You can really pick anything you like. Sounds like you’re just developing your game so any of them will likely make too much of a difference until your skill level develops. So I’d say get what looks good to you because it’ll give you confidence. As you get your average above 200, there will start to be more noticeable differences in ball reaction.

@@TamerBowling No hooked yet 😔only straight. One and a half month bowling 🎳 only. I have a coaching class last Monday I hope 🤞 for this Monday to hook a little. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Not exactly. I mean you can make it what you want. Typically I have 2 asyms and 3 syms and a spare ball. Surface is a very good question which I can discuss in a second video. Anything strong meaning oil handling will typically have some surface. So my strong anything never has less than 4000 grit but typically 2000 and 3000 but that depends on what pattern I’m on.
He can't answer for every variable in bowling lol. He is giving a GENERAL idea of how you can think of your arsenal. There is absolutely no way to mathmatically dial in an arsenal for every individual. Best advice I was told was to get rid of designators like pearl, hybrid, solid, asym and sym. Look at things in terms of SHAPE. Which is what he is getting at. Zen is a pearl but reads mids more than most hybrids. Look at phaze 3, which is R3S hybrid, yet is WAAAY quicker on friction than s77 pearl on the Zen. The "R3S" and "s77" formula's are the important part. A shiny ball hit with 2000 grit and lower will always make a ball more of a control shape, RELATIVE TO WHAT IS WAS BEFORE. A shiny ball hit with 3000/4000/5000 will make it have a slower friction response.
@@donkeydiehard879 this is a well written comment. The whole point of the boxes is to think of it in relative terms of strength and shape. You can probably take a altered reality for example which is a mid late and turn it into a strong defined or strong control by putting surface on it. In fact I did something like this when I took an Intense to 180 grit for nationals. So it’s really the concept I’m trying to get across. Generally I can tell you what balls are intended to do out of box in the reviews.
Yeah I think that would be an awesome Idea. @TamerBowling

I'm 66. 14-15 mph, low rpm (200-250?).
Outstanding video that has entirely changed the way I look at the topic. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it. I hope it makes a difference for you and other bowlers moving forward!
Just my .02
I’m trying to decide how best to manage that moving forward. Glad you found this useful.
He says where every ball fits in his review. He can't put every ball in there or you won't be able to see anything but a giant blob in each box. Can't just put single ball somewhere in a box because some of it is subjective, as far as where EXACTLY it fits.
Thanks!
Thanks so much for your support!
Keep working to build up your knowledge and you'll continue to get better at interpreting.
hanks so much
I appreciate the 3-ball bag grid. I'm a two-handed lefty. I have the Helios as my strong control, an Axiom drilled more aggressively for my strong defined, and a Hustle Wine as my mid defined. I am looking into a Gem so it would definitely take over as an even stronger defined ball.
Absolutely superb, useful video!
Could you do something for the Brunswick brands of the current balls out there? That would be helpful
This was very helpful so thank you…I am left wondering when I would want defined vs control shape. The oil axes I understand.
@@jeremybogard1191 Yeah the Ink if you can find one seems reasonable.
I would like to here your opinions on this bag since I do highschool matches and tournaments there is no set volume or pattern ratio
I have a Trident Odyssey, Rst X1, and a Fatal Venom as my spare ball as it’ll hook and go straighter.
Love the video as my son and I are just starting this journey. My question is how do you even determine which ball is what category before buying?
The short answer is the RG, Dif and coverstock of the ball. Finding a Pro Shop Owner (PSO) you trust and discussing with him what you are looking for to achieve your overall goal can also help. You also need to understand what type of bowling style you have; stroker, tweener or cranker as this will help the PSO when drilling and selecting the ball.
In my videos I comment on where I think they fit. Obviously bowling style, conditions, etc. dictate what you need. If you’re just starting, talk to your local PSO and get a benchmark “mid control” ball to start. Then build around it once you know what it does.
If you made a 2H arsenal (being rev dominant), what would that look like? Just curious and thanks for all you do for bowling!
@@jareddrake619 good example of validating the methodology. Thanks!
Totally cool and highly valuable video! Thank you.
Would I be a fool to ask you for a 3 ball urethane arsenal list? ;)
Great video, subscribed!
I have Venom Shock, Fatal, Pride and Phaze II.
Do you think Zen will be good addition to my arsenal?
Thanks
I find the uc3 in mid control. Purple hammer is in the specialty category.
Thank-you for your help...are you going to make favorite for this year? Like you did in 2019-2020
Hope to get to that soon
@@TamerBowling Thanks.
2/3 for the motiv examples. Just need to replace my alpha with a venom shock
When it comes to a brand name (hammer) what do you recommend for control strong and mid.
I have eight balls. Probably too many, but I’m trying to find what works for me.
Monday night (synthetic med oil vol)- 219 avg dropped to 209)
Wed night- (synthetic, higher vol) 215 up to 224. Best I've done since bowling there. So this house isnt the problem
Friday night- (wood lanes med vol oil) 221 down to around 210.
So you see where my issues are.
My current arsenal is
>Prism solid (burns up early mon and fri, great for Wed)
>Phaze 2- ( rolls out or flat mon, good wed, too strong at times fri after game 1)
>Hustle RAP- my late or longest ball.
So what am I missing. I feel I'm missing 1 or 2 balls.
I have at home
NIB trend
NiB axiom pearl

Hi Tamer, came across this video when I was looking to see if 900 global reality is needed in my 6 ball or 3 ball arsenal for league and open play. I heard a shiny reality is the cheat code from stu and simo. would the shiny reality still fit in the strong defined category or would it move down to mid defined since its shined up? I'm trying to figure out if I should get it as I have a dark code with surface of 500->1000->Step2. Thanks for any feedback.
my current arsenal:
strong defined: dark code with surface (500->1000->Step2)? or Out of box Reality?
strong control: TNT
mid defined: Shiny Reality??? or dark code w/ 1500 polished?
mid late: hyroad pearl
mid control: Zen
Undetermined catergory ball: Hustle Wine
@@gtbinh Seams reasonable if you know your league is heavier. Or take the main 3, then keep the hyroad pearl in the car in case they are toasty.

@@TamerBowling don't forget surface. Like you said for lefties, surface is key.

I was thinking to pick:
1. MOTIV Forge Ember
2. MOTIV Sky Raptor
You can really pick anything you like. Sounds like you’re just developing your game so any of them will likely make too much of a difference until your skill level develops. So I’d say get what looks good to you because it’ll give you confidence. As you get your average above 200, there will start to be more noticeable differences in ball reaction.
@@TamerBowling thanks for your concerns and for your help. My first game with the purple hammer (03 July) was 102/116/111
@@rob13773 have you developed a hook yet? Or are you throwing it straight? It maybe the perfect time to work with a coach, even for a short stint to get you on your way.
@@TamerBowling No hooked yet 😔only straight. One and a half month bowling 🎳 only. I have a coaching class last Monday I hope 🤞 for this Monday to hook a little. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Could it be a good 3 ball bag filled with sky raptor, forge amber and venom blue coral?
I think the balls separate enough so looks good, assuming the forge Ember covers the highest volume patterns you see.
so basically 3 asyms and 2 syms and 1 spare ball. now what about surfaces to them.
Blows my mind people waste a spot in their bag for a spare ball.
Spares are the most important part of the game. If you can’t throw it flat and straight, no more important ball to have than something that does.
