Lego City Undercover (WiiU) | Trying to fight Rex Fury without Advanced Combat

Normally Advanced Combat is required to fight Rex Fury at the end of the game. For a Speedrun that is a problem as now you have to go out of your way to reach Kung Fool and unlock Advanced Combat. Technically you can skip the fight altogether but that is really difficult so I wanted to know how far you can get without Advanced Combat. I was surprised to find out just how far you can get without Advanced Combat. By doing a very precise Enemy throw with the Y button it is just barely possible to hit Rex Fury and knock him down. Then when he is running around the arena, you can make him fall down into the kill plane to deal more damage. This allows you to get to the very last hit, but unfortunately to finish him off, throwing him into the kill plane doesn’t work. If you try to attack him he will just throw you away. I tried everything from throwing enemies at him, shooting him with the laser gun/grapple gun, attacking him with the miners axe attack, the builders drill, but nothing was working.
So turns out you can’t fight Rex Fury without Advanced Combat but it’s a lot closer than expected.
