    Poecilia picta (POE-CHELIAH PICK-TAH)...from the Latin "painted poem"...
    I love this species! Wish we still had Latin being taught in middle and high school so that the pronunciation folks used was better...LOL...Loved finding this channel today...Thanks for sharing behind the scenes...

      I wish I knew Latin...I butcher every scientific name I encounter.

      @@DansFish Dan, don't sweat it at all...LOL...!!!...I'm a Nerd. If it does matter at all, Google's free translator program going from "true Latin" and back to English pronunciations will teach you 90% of what you need to know to say names correctly in Latin. Simple as "plug and play." Westerns do a horrid time of it most of the time. When I was in school, I often found myself debating this with Zoologist and the like all the time as most academics do a bad job with pronociation as well. However, nowadays, if it matters (which I think it does...LOL) a computer or phone can resolve it fast...Love the channel!!!

    In your plug for Aquarium Co-op, you said they had everything I need for my fish keeping hobby. Does that include more room? I definitely could use some more room, and then some tanks to put in the more room. But yes, definitely more room if he can provide that.

    Hello dan.
    I just wanna tell you that gastromyzon is not the same as hillstream loaches, they are considered as borneo sucker

    • @DansFish
      @DansFish  Месяц назад

      Wait...did you just use a common name to dispute a scientific name? :)

    • @ferdianbettafish3659
      @ferdianbettafish3659 Месяц назад

      @@DansFish well, correct me if im wrong, but hillstream loach is a part of sewellia genus which is still part of gastromyzontidae family, the same family as, well as the name implies gastromyzon genus which is commonly known as borneo sucker, because they are native to the river of borneo, hence the name borneo sucker.
      Well tbh idk if im dispuing the common names with the scientific one but, my point here is sewellia is hillstream loach while gastromzyon is borneo sucker they came from different genus

    Oh how I wish I had a tank big enough for those lepidogaster Hillstreams! I would breed the hell out of them and make sure you had a supply always! Thing is, I'm not sure they're lepidogaster. Those are supposed to be a solid brown. The problem with Hillstream loaches is that there are around 205 known species, and possibly some which have yet to be discovered. As if the sheer number of them wasn't enough, many of them don't have pictures yet, haven't been given scientific names or popular names, and are otherwise difficult to pin down. I would not mind devoting the rest of my life to hillstream loaches, collecting them, breeding them, naming them, and setting up a catalogue with photos of them all. Thing is, I don't have a lot of time left to live. I think it's a rip-off that longer than that. Say... 2000 years. That would help a little.
    I sonder if those are the same batch of kuhli loaches which mine came from? When they got here, they were tiny little threads. Now they are as big as those, but they pretty much hide during the daytime. At first, they hid in the cracks of the rock wall I created as part of the aquascape, but now they're too big to do that, so they pretend to hide in other places, but they're usually out, active, and scavenging early in the morning, or in the evening when the lights dim. They are a blast to watch, even if they don't want to be watched. I love it when they find some food. You can almost hear them shout "Hotdog!" as they get real excited and eat it down. The hillstream loaches are like that with algae wafers and Vibra Bites. The only difference is that the hillstream loaches flutter their pectoral fins like a baby bird does when momma comes to feed them. You can tell the foods they like best by how hard those little wings flutter.
    Looking forward to seeing some fish arrive tomorrow. Getting fish from you is always a treat because they are always in good health, fat and sassy, and they never fail to thrive! Thanks to you and to all of your staff for being so good at what you do, and for taking the time to do it right. If you see this, make sure to tell the folks who do all the fish wrangling that one of your customers said "Thank you" and that their hard work is appreciated!

    Sorry but I think giving those fish those extrem tails makes them super unhealthy. seeing them wiggle around like their body knows its dragging something around thats not supposed to be there.. looks awful. same with platy and with guppy. long fin varieties are just sad to look at. not pretty.
