The theme song for those with a nearly infinite amount of destructive power who know how to use it, yet are still holding on to their last bit of innocence and dreams.
This is such a perfect song for both the series and for X. The melancholy melody reflects X's reluctance to fight but it's still fast paced rock that perfectly fits the gameplay. X4 was a work of art.
This isn't just X's theme. To me, this was my VERY FIRST Megaman X song that I ever had the honor of listening to, and ever since then I've associated this theme with the entire series as a whole. All the musical elements are here and it's represented so well in this epic synth driven song that not only shows you that the music is pure genius and is incredibly well composed, but also sets the tone for the rest of the game.

As far as story goes atleast I wouldn't say it was as big a turning point as the original X on SNES was, and either X5 or Zero 1 was a close 2nd. I think MM8 is up there as well.
