Hey there! That’s awesome that you’ve made the jump to the US! Thanks for the video! One question: Being from Alberta, they don’t really issue “titles” like other jurisdictions. How did you get around that? Was the bill of sale and vehicle registration certificate enough to meet proof of ownership? Thanks in advance!
Hi, thanks for the question. It was quite easy to import the vehicle. Vehicle registration and valid insurance were most important. We used those for the importation process. With the help of an import broker, we had no issues. Get the compliance letter from the manufacturer and the process is quite smooth. Please reach out if you have any more questions about the process. Thanks again for interacting on our channel. Don't forget to subscribe if you haven't already. God Bless.
We're literally moving to Texas in a week, and I'm currently looking into importing a vehicle so this is very timely! What broker did you use and would you recommend them?
Awesome that's exciting. The broker we used was Patrick Vasquez 210-349-2577. You can search around but we had no issues. www.vasquezcustomsbroker.com/
Hi there, thank you for that information. I am in similar situation where my car does not have TPMS (Honda CRV 2023). So there is no way I can do the import of this car or even if I do, I cannot have the car registration done? Waiting to hear from you.
Hi, thanks for connecting to our channel. Does your car have the EPA and DOT stickers? Where was the car manufactured? In North America? Can you get a letter of compliance from the manufacturer? Some manufacturers do have upgrade kits that can bring the car up to the US standard. Let us know what you find out. Don't forget to subscribe to our channel if you haven't already. We appreciate the interaction. Cheers.
Jackson, this is extremely helpful as I can not really find any of this information online! I have some questions in regards to buying a car in Canada and driving it back to the US: Would you pay them in USD, or CAD? What is the safest way to pay them for the car when you live in the US? Do they need to transfer the title in Canada to your name? Is this possible if you don't have a CA address? Is it possible to get any sort of auto loans for a purchase made to a private seller that lives in another country?
Hi there. Thanks for following our channel and thanks for the question. There is a lot to unpack here so I will ask you some questions that will help me answer your questions. 1. What is your residency? US I believe, correct? 2. What Driver's License do you have? 3. Is the vehicle you're looking at buying new or used? 4. Do you know the year make and model of the vehicle you want to buy?
@@BrendaBeeJackson 1. US residency, would purchase in Canada and use as personal car in U.S. 2. U.S Drivers licence. 3. Used, VIN starts with 1 so it was originally manufactured in U.S before being sold in Canada, have already contacted Ford for Letter of Safety and EPA Compliance using that VIN. 4. Used 2002 Ford with 7k miles, so just 2 years under the 25 year mark.
Hi, you should have no issue importing a car to the US that was purchased in Canada. Make sure the EPA and DOT standards are present on the car and confirm they are up to code for today. You mentioned 2002 as a year of manufacture. A lot has changed in 22 years so you must be diligent. Hopefully this helps and good luck.
I have a mercedes c 300 and looking to move it to usa as my wife is a US citizen, so how can i check if my car is okay for import. BTW this is very good information, thanks
Hi there. Thanks for following our channel. Appreciate the question and best of luck moving to the US btw. As mentioned in our video first thing to do is look under your hood for the EPA or DOT stickers that we mentioned. If those stickers are not there then you should apply for a letter of compliance from Mercedes. You can do that here with this link. www.mercedes-benz.ca/en/compliance-letter If you are still paying for the vehicle, they might not provide a letter of compliance, so you can fib a bit when you get to that question. Once you request the letter, I believe it takes only a couple of days to get an answer back. If you get a positive answer, you can import it yourself filling the forms out that I mentioned and then bring it to a port of entry. As we mentioned we used an import broker to help with the paperwork. Hope this helps and best of luck. Don't forget to subscribe if you haven't already, if you have subscribed, we thank you and please spread the word of our channel.
Mercedes will not issue an epa compliance certificate. We actually caught them in a lie as they claimed only 2020 and earlier and our 2019 didn’t qualify. Well, they didn’t know we traded in the 2019 for a 2022! Ofc, they had an excuse afterwards for not allowing it either. Ours has the USA epa decals. Toyota also no longer will issue a compliance letters We love the vehicle. Next and probably our last effort is to go through an importer and/or broker to see if they can succeed. If not, we have a buyer in Canada as they also love the car and know it’s been garaged in Florida since new
Well, we were able to acquire an epa certification through the epa website. 2 minutes once you know where to enter your vin number. But the next road block is the safety decal. It’s for Canada. But the safety site states Canada laws mirror the USA. Compliance letter must be submitted and of course Mercedes will not issue it. Per an import broker, the risk of asking is to great as they could seize the car. We are planning to sell it and we have about 16 months to do so. 🤷🏻♂️
Thanks for the comment on importing Mercedes. Not easy at all. We ended up selling ours in Canada. To be honest my experience getting a safety for my Chrysler in the state of Texas was as follows, left signal, right signal, brakes, high and low beams sir. That will be $7 dollars please, and I'm not kidding. You then take that document along with proof of insurance and your import papers to the DPS to register your car. Thanks for the comment and don't forget to subscribe if you haven't already. God Bless.
