I have the peg soap but not the peg paste. I have a peg oil that does the same thing and they both work really well. I like to use it when I change strings just to make it a bit easier
The finger stretching thing is actually valid I think - you're right, you don't usually flex your fingers outward like that, but that's precisely the reason this is a helpful recovery tool. You're working on your antagonist muscle movements, stretching and relieving the muscles you usually use.
Yes, in the bodybuilding community we use it for elbow tendinitis that is caused by over gripping. I myself used it, and it worked for me to an extent. Although I am not an advanced bodybuilder yet, but my tendinitis was 😂
You can get similar bands(without the finger loops) through Iron Mind, the company that makes "Captains of Crush grippers", for an opposing workout to grip strength.

For eliminating violin wolf notes, I’ve learned a trick from one of the luthiers, which is totally not intrusive to the instrument. That is to cut about 2cm long of thicker adhesive tape (e.g. one of those tennis racket frame protection tape or the tape that fixates an overgrip on the racket handle) , then wrap the tape around the A and D strings together, at the location above the saddle and inside the pegbox. Not too far above the saddle though. You’d be amazed this works. Unnoticeable if the tape is black and imho better than something dangling and visible near the tailpiece
1st finger goes on the other side of the back end of the snail. This is for training new players how to hold the bow. There are several forms of this on the market. For special needs children this is a great help.
Yes! That is an excellent design and helps many students. There is a picture of its intended used right on the box! (At least for the version that we have.)
I actually like that pinky piece. There are some students who think their pinky is supposed to be on the metal screw. If they take it home for a week, it usually helps fix the problem. :)
Actually the finger stretcher helps to fever the opposing muscles to maintain balance in the hand. It is a physical therapy technique. I once had to go to the Curtis National Hand Center for my left hand. Part of my recovery was doing exercises just like that.
I couldn't get to their concert (London) either 😥 - I was awaiting surgery for a fractured wrist that evening! Very frustrating as I'd SO looked forward to going....
Ouch. Hope you get better soon! I have a penchant for breaking bones... Luckily they haven't effected my violin playing. Only my writing...@@wakingtheworld
@@worgle123 Well it happened in June so I am on the mend but progress has been slower than expected.... I need FULL wrist flexion for my bowing and this eludes me for the present - I'm a beginner learner though and was inspired to take up the violin by Brett & Eddy, bless 'em - but I am getting there. Thanks for your concern. FYI, I started taking K2 in powdered form for my possible bone porosity. K2 stops Calcium leaching from your bones and locks it in. The BEST source is NATTO - fermented soya bean and it comes from Asia. I ordered mine from Korea. It's pleasant to take added to water. I don't know how you are breaking bones but this could help. It's an essential vitamin anyway. Happy practicing!
2:32 So one time I bought a really cheap($20) bow and planned on dyeing the hair purple…well in the process, I some how managed to drop the frog through the hair and now (I’m not really sure which, tangling the hair or dying it purple or it being a $20 bow) it hardly played so I have started using my buddies bass rosin and now it kinda works. Now it kinda just sits as a cool art piece
Enjoyed this guessing format! Also found out today in my 2023 YT Music Rewind I am in the top 0.3% of Ray Chen listeners. It's a good Thursday so far. :)
Ray please give us that snail thing our approval. The 1st finger goes on the other side. For the first 5 months of me starting violin my bow grip was terrible. When I found out about it I thought I would need it on my bow for the next half of the year year but in less than 2 months my bow grip improved tremendously and I could take it off my bow after only 2 months.
"Bowmaster Bow Grip Super Sensitive" I bought one of these and it helped me A LOT in terms of holding the bow, after just under a month I was already holding the bow correctly even without the help of the grip
I had hand surgery a few months ago and actually one of my recovery exercises consists of using one of those finger stretching thingies to build up hand strength and extension range.
My favourite 'device' 😄 is definitely the colourful Catrpilr practice mute..... because I already have one! (just in different shade) 😁 and the sound is soooooo much better with it, than with a rubber version. The only issue is that you have to be careful putting it on, because it has magnets, so the 'putting-on-phase' is a bit fussy. I could also use a wolf note eliminator (though rather one that works 🤭) - my C isn't that bad, but F.............................😖 😉
The snail butt is to encourage you to lightly spread the index finger from the middle finger. It's pretty effective, but the problem is it's only perfect for one size of hand.
When I was doing rock climbing, I compressed a rubber donut with the fingers in one hand, to build up finger strength, which is quite important as you progress at climbing (not that I ever became all that good)
Are some of those accessories things I saw on twosetviolin when they shared a video of cheap and useless gadgets like keeping your bow straight but can't do a retake.
Hello, really enjoy your music and RUclips channel. Could you share something on how a violinist can find the best shoulder rest and chin rest combination that works for them. Thanks.

My first violin teacher recommended using an empty toilet paper roll to get a feeling for bowing straight. It kindof worked and was much cheaper than the fancy contraptions rayviewed in his vieeo.
How does that work exactly? Someone suggested a bent straw pushed into the F holes but my bow kept rubbing up against it and the straw moved anyway. Playing in front of a mirror helps but not easy reading music that way....
@@wakingtheworld I just held the roll with the left hand and let it guide the bow so that I would feel which movements a straight bow requires from the right wrist an d fingers. It was not meant for actually playing.
Ray, when you release some stiffness, you do the opposite direction of the move that stiff your fingers. Many gamers use such thing bcoz as you can see, they hold the mouse almost exactly as you do with the grid. ... and you should use it in the middle of the practice, not in the beginning, bcoz its not for warming up... its for releasing the stiffness of the muscles for longer practice.

The last one was really funny. I'm not practicing because I have a fever.
I’m a beginner, and I bought the pinkie finger holder. It works.
In my 1st year of starting violin I used that snail thing to help me get the bow grip right. It sure did help.
