    GREAT POSTING! I needed to do a complete tear down and all others only showed how to take the casing apart. Your instruction on removing the "2nd Compound Gear Assmbly" (internal clutch) was simple and worked! Excellent! THANKS

    Thank you. I now have a clear understanding of what can go wrong. I'm actually looking to buy a Lewmar profish1000 but I've read a number of poor reviews. I'll bet they mostly due to poor manufacturer greasing. I'm not sure about this product but many products made overseas use packing grease rather than the grease appropriate for use. Packing grease is made to stick and prevent rust, but not good for lubrication. + Your comment about uncured silicone makes me think to check it also.

    Thank you for posting this. I posted a video showing how I broke some parts, and replaced them. Mine was not a great video, but I explained what NOT to do, to prevent what I did wrong! ☺

    This video is just what I needed. Thanks! Question...which way should the roller clutch allow rotation...CW or CCW? I think I may have installed mine backwards. Should the writing be facing out?

    Good afternoon Thank you very much for your winch video! I have the same Levmar winch on my boat. Please tell me that the gear that is located on the electric motor shaft should be firmly fixed or is play allowed? For me it moves within 1-1.5 mm. This is fine? Thank you!

    Thanks for the windlass for dummies series :))) I've changed all the gears by new last year (trough a professional) of my pro-1000 and after 6 months of sleep in marina, today the windlass did the same... engine turns but gypsy did not... sound was slightly different this time, it seems like gears wasn't turning as well, just a smooth clean electric motor sound there was... Also there was no back flowing, so 2nd gear works well... I think that 1st gear shifted on the shaft towards the cover, the gear you pulled out @ 0:30... is that possible? there was only nylon bushing while you dismantling, anything else to keep it in right position? if thats the problem I can handle it w'out tear the whole windlas down, if not then I'll call for pro-help because its in a tide place under the chain locker hatch and there's not much to do like the ones are mounted to the open deck...

    Thank you for these video's, excellent help for me as my 700 has done exactly what you have pointed out. Question, no mention of the motor pinion and how to get that off, can you help before I start in with a hammer on the spirol pin ...

    After watching your video I would first try to tighten the 3 lobed tension nut with a 3/8 drive ratchet. There are 3 square holes on it to put the ratchet into. If that doesn't work you may have one of 3 issues.The cone shaped portions in the gypsy are worn Part #58 on the parts diagram. It is usually the first to go. Check the tapered areas where the pressure points are. If worn the areas will look brass coloured. Next would be #35 and next would be #28. Here is a link for a manual for your windlass. great video. One question, The lewmar schematic shows nylon washers on main shaft. on both sides of bearing.
    with washers installed there is not enough room for lockring. I see your vidio shows no washers. will it work if i install without washers? thank you

      There are mods from year to year. I would use what came with your model if they are not damaged. I know the 700 came with 2 different clutch bearings, one had a 16mm and the newer ones came with 18 mm bearing.

      @@fishorcutb8 Thank you so much. I removed the washers and put it together. BTW It was very hard to get the main shaft into the bearing on the back plate. I used longer bolt and pressed it in.

    I have the exact unit you tore down in your vid. The problem with mine is that i can hear the electric motor running to turn the gear to raise the anchor but the gear on the outside the unit won't move. Its like something is not engaging to turn the gear on the outside. Any thoughts or advice? Great vid btw, thanks.

    Does anyone know if the one-way bearing is supposed to go to the right or left? It has a counterclockwise arrow on the face but I’m not sure which way it goes in or which way the gear is supposed to turn /not turn

    • @fishorcutb8
      @fishorcutb8  3 года назад

      It should rotate freely counter clockwise. Lock up clockwise. If you follow the power flow when bringing in the rode the main shaft is rotating clockwise and the second gear will rotate counter clockwise. When you release the power switch the one way bearing will now hold the shaft from rotating back clockwise. INA bearings have the size engraved on the side facing out from the bore hole in other words you should be able to see the numbers when installed.

    I have replaced the compound gear ass'y and the one way needle bearing but the windlass Pro Sport 550 will not pull the anchor tight to the roller - it "loosens off" as you say in the youtube. The one way clutch bearing slip fits into the housing. Is it supposed to be a press fit?

    • @fishorcutb8
      @fishorcutb8  7 лет назад

      The bearing should be pressed in snug as not to slip. It is holding the anchor from free falling back out. The cup the bearing is pressed into might have been enlarged from a seized part causing the outer race of the oneway bearing to spin and ware the cup holding the bearing. Should not just drop in.

    • @jamesmcintyre6687
      @jamesmcintyre6687 7 лет назад

      Thanks, that confirms the root cause of the problem. I am not aware of a "cup" that the bearing presses into. It looks like it presses into the main housing on the Pro Sport 550. If there is a cup then the cup needs to be replaced (how to get it out) and it must be pressed into the housing. If no cup then the housing ($$)will need replacement or I could try to Loctite the bearing to the housing. What do you recommend? Contacting Lewmar is a waste of time. Thanks again for your help.

    • @fishorcutb8
      @fishorcutb8  7 лет назад

      James McIntyre sorry i meant the casting that looks like a cup.

    • @fishorcutb8
      @fishorcutb8  7 лет назад

      Ya no cup just the housing. I would suggest clean area very well and use bearing locktite. If it is not to far gone and let it set overnight to cure before final assembly. Good luck. Your problem probably arose while shaft collar was seized. Then it was powered in or out causing the bearing to spin.

    • @jamesmcintyre6687
      @jamesmcintyre6687 7 лет назад

      I have installed the one way bearing (bearing ID info facing out) using Loctite 660 and it appears to be holding. However, the windlass will not pull rope in but it will let rope out. The motor groans and stalls when trying to pull rope in. I have a new compound gear assembly but it appears to be locking up because when it is removed from the housing it is locked and I believe the small gear should be free to move. What would cause a new compound gear to lock up and what can I do to fix it? I paid $140.00 for it.
