Dude, thank you for confirming the canonical nature of this series with "we see the toys handling the tape and tuning in to watch the show in the opening." I always knew there was something special about this spinoff that makes it "the real property the in universe Buzz Lightyear action figure is based on," and why Patrick Warburton is allowed and not Chris Evans, but I just couldn't put my finger on it. Now I can say "we see the toys watching Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, that wasn't present in Lightyear."
My pleasure! It seems with Star Command, they actually thought about how to tie the show in with the Toy Story universe, whereas with Lightyear, they likely slapped the "connection" on in post-production as an afterthought. Perhaps a good example of better continuity making all the difference. 🙂
Still a great movie to this day. I remember watching Lightyear a year or two ago, I don't think it's as bad as my friends think, but let's be real, that's not the movie Andy watched growing up. He watched this one, a far superior product 🤣
I had this on DVD and do have some fond memories of this film. It had some memorable characters and scoring, and it’s much more like what I imagine Andy would watch to want a Buzz figure as opposed to Lightyear.
8:28 It was actually the reverse, Patrick recorded his lines first but Tim Allen became available when they were producing this VHS and he dubbed over Patrick's lines. It was like how Robin Williams dubbed over Dan for King of Thieves and a lot of the scenes got re-animated due to Robin ad-libbing a lot
I would’ve killed to see a Buzz Lightyear of Star Command movie in the style of Lightyear tbh. The animation in the 2001 film/tv show was fine, but imagine how cool it could’ve looked with an updated style. Too bad Pixar will probably never do it now, since Lightyear is the new “official” Buzz Lightyear canon.
If you want confirmation that this is the true canon origin of Buzz Lightyear, then check out the “return of Buzz Lightyear” comic book from 2009 I believe. It features Andy buying and playing with Booster from this Buzz Lightyear of Star Command series
Oh, I was AWARE of it - I knew a girl who could never stop talking about Disney Channel stuff, but never saw them myself, so I didn't fully know what she was on about.😄
@@joshmontemayor1212 Technically, Tim only voices him in the movie. Patrick Warburton voices him in the TV, and honestly, considering how the character is written, I feel like Patrick fits the role better than Tim.
I’m getting the feeling you didn’t like ‘Lightyear (2022)😂 It’s still baffling how much of a missed opportunity that film was Pixar. I don’t remember’Little Mermaid 2’ being too bad (or too good), but ‘Lady and the Tramp 2’ is probably the most bizarre of the Disney vhs sequels.
I love Lightyear as long as it's followed by the words "of Star Command". And it'll be interesting when I get to the Disney sequels - I don't think anything can compare with Hunchback of Notre Dame 2 for bizarre material. 😆

While there was a great many things I liked about Lighyear I feel the movie would have been infinitely better if they just copied this movie. Ironically enough Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story came off as a franchise that was made to sell toys, like a LOT of cartoons did in the 90's. So to have a movie ABOUT toys created from cartoons to sell toys to then to have a CARTOON about the movie about toys created for cartoons to sell toys....by actually showing said cartoon is a Inception level of genius I can't even comprehend.

No If anything the framing device proves your belief of it being the "true origin story" false. So given the appearance of Jessie and Bullseye it clearly takes place after the events of Toy Story 2 which took place roughly 2 years after the first movie and considering factors like Buzz toys being around in the events of the first movie, Tour Guide Barbie mentioning the retailers coming up short in 1995 (hence everyone's amazement that Andy got one for his birthday which then also locks down a time frame for the Toy Story movies) this movie was essentially like a backdoor pilot to the series within the Toy Story universe so it wasn't the show that made Andy want a Buzz Lightyear action figure because it can be assumed it wasn't even airing when he got his action figure it was in fact the Lightyear movie What BLOSC did in the context of Toy Story is what the Avengers Assemble animated series did after the Avengers Assemble (The Avengers to the rest of the world) movie for us in the real world; took some ideas and loose connections to the movie to spin it off into its own thing that was in no way continuing the movie Lightyear wasn't even a bad movie so these attempts to just discount it like Star Wars fans trying to discount anything post-ROTJ is just plain ridiculous and I say that as a lifelong fan of Toy Story

Lightyear sucked but we shouldn't throw a fit about a scene that only lasts a few seconds. Also we shouldn't hate a movie for "political" reasons either.
Buzz Lightyear of Star Command is everything a kid like Andy would enjoy. Action, adventure, good vs. evil, and intergalactic space related FUN!

7:57 In 1995, a boy named Andy got a Buzz Lightyear toy for his birthday. It was based off of his favorite movie. THIS is that movie!
6:29 fun fact little mermaid 2 is basically Tara strong's all time favorite role she's in because she fangirl over Jodi Benson Back to the Past!👍❤️

I think Light-year (2022) was originally supposed to be a live action remake of Buzz Light-year of Star Command...
