It's like going back in time to my dad's first one CYP 151V when he got out in the early 80's the last of the Carbodies built one with B L badges and steering wheel and the column change automatic on the dash wow ❤
I used to work in burgess taxi garage in London w9 done 5 yrs working as a trainee mechanic loved the sound's of the old F.x.4 taxis hard work valve grinding
@@TempoE200 The 2.25 Rover engine was underpowered. It was slightly better when cogs were fitted to replace the timing chain. My Dad had a W reg FX4 my first cab was a 1975 P reg. No scycromesh on the first gear, no power steering and no power brakes. The FX4 R had all these things but as I said was woefully underpowered. Swains Lane was only possible if you only had one passenger on board.
I loved those old FX4's.

I wonder how many people have cried as they've watched that taxi drive away, or felt excitement as it returns a loved one to them?
I used to do 12 hours a day in a manual one of those ; hard graft compared with the modern electric cab .
Absolutely love it. But also glad its consigned to history. Long may it live as an enthusiast vehicle.

My Dad had a FX4, I could smell that start up.
Same here, my bedroom was over the garage when he started it at 4am. It’s a wonder my lungs still work at all.
Ah, the iconic London black cab. A British institution.
If I could have any car, I would have an FX4, classic British cars are some of my fav cars

Bmc2.5 best small boat engine ever ❤❤❤🛠️⚓🤠 JB
This year had a brake servo and a sign saying engage first gear when you pull away I think first gear had sychromesh unlike earlier ones
In fact a sign warns the driver about the servo brakes!!! And a little later they got power steering, so even the ladies could do the job...

Power steering was not available until the FX4R model was launched.
It was an optional extra a first but then became stardard.
@@tonythorpe396 Yes, I guess it was in 1982, so two years after our cab got on the road. The trouble was the "R" in FX4R, wasn't it?
