I see many compare Ms Monheit with Barbra Streisand, Ms Streisand is one of the greatest female singers of the last 50 years, but although she has that wonderful voice and the ability to sing everything beautifully the difference is that Jane Monheit is that very rare thing, a genuine Jazz artist and comparisons are unfair both are the best in their own fields
Dancing in the dark 'til the tune ends We're dancing in the dark and it soon ends We're waltzing in the wonder of why we're here Time hurries by, we're here and gone Looking for the light of a new love To brighten up the night, I have you love And we can face the music together Dancing in the dark What- though love is old What- though song is old Through them we can be young Hear this heart of mine Make yours part of mine Dear one, tell me that we're one Dancing in the dark 'til the tune ends We're dancing in the dark and it soon ends We're waltzing in the wonder of why we're here Time hurries by, we're here and gone Looking for the light of a new love To brighten up the night, I have you love And we can face the music together Dancing in the dark
This woman's voice and singing is a new discovery for me - one of the most beautiful voices and song interpreters I've heard in years. And wonderful diction - can understand every word. Unlike most singers with a forced straight tone and no consonants. And this is a physically beautiful woman. Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan gained a lot of weight too. Maybe we need to park some of our American cultural expectations about appearance at the door.
@CosmosMarinerDU Really? Well that could explain it, occupational hazard indeed it is. I'll watch (and listen) to some more of her, but I do hope she doesn't let herself go, it happens so often, called contentment I gather... Still, the VOICE is the thing, and that is as lovely as ever..
Sadly she seems to have developed a little in the last few years in not the best of ways, Check out some of her more recent sessions... Nowt wrong with her singing though!
What a vocalist!!! I love your voice and timing,!
The absolutely greatest version!
Beautiful...beautiful voice.
Tak właśnie śpiewa się sercem.
Pięknie....

What- though love is old
What- though song is old
Through them we can be young
Hear this heart of mine
Make yours part of mine
Dear one, tell me that we're one

We're dancing in the dark and it soon ends

I envy the guy who " dances in the dark" with this songbird!
very beautiful . and what a gorgous woman.
Oh Hell Yeah Jane!!!
Jane knows how to express a great Dietz & Schwartz song
I"ve only just found Jane and think she"s fantastic, I agree with a previous comment, she does sound a lot like barbara streisand.

When I 1st heard her voice, I thought it was Barbra Streisand.
Beautiful voice and a great singer, but turning commercial and phoney sometimes. Well, it may be difficult to live well off Jazz alone...
