  • Miku Kuriyama has to be one of the happiest skiers I have ever met. She also happens to be one of the best female technical skiers in the world. Any type of turn doesn’t matter she can rip it up…. and FAST. I spent one afternoon skiing with her at Togakushi Ski resort in Japan. it was a lot of fun.

    Stunning skiing! I love the camera from the side, It captures the transitions' timing of the release and the power she gets from the skis

      I had to ski in a massive power slide Side slip to get that one and try not to get in her way. Whilst still getting close for a good shot! I agree I like this side angle for seeing transitions

    In the perfectly groomed, constant slope GS hill it is relatively easy to look good, but I am pretty sure that in a competition she would not rotate her upper body into the travel direction between every turn, she would instead be looking more downhill, turning her hips and not her entire upper body?
    OTOH, my competitive skiing here in Norway was 50 years ago, so the gear have changed a lot! 😂

    Ha! Did you have to pay her not to overtake you at the end Tom? I love the way she drives through the bottom of the turn with an extra push forward of the head, like she is swooping even further, even though the turn is almost complete. Her joy is infectious.

    We know you are into biomechanics Tom.
    Any thoughts on a skiers height, power, resultant COM and outcomes. She is fantastic, and I'd suggest being shorter with power, and obviously touch too, is advantageous?

    • @Bigpictureskiing
      @Bigpictureskiing  7 месяцев назад +2
