This lady is clearly a genius. There are many instructional videos on how to play accordion on YT, but the pedagogical method this lady has chosen is superior to all. Just unbelievable how efficient teaching can be if done in an intelligent and clever way. I am taking my hat off!
This is an extremely helpful tutorial. Thank you for paying so much attention to small details like the camera angle and listing what notes you are playing. As a beginner player, watching how you play is a great way for me to avoid unknowingly building bad habits. Your crisp articulation also makes it easier to practice my listening. Everything about this was helpful. Thank you very much for putting so much work into this 👍
Lucy, I've been wanting to play this song for a long time..... But the syncopated bass rhythm -- I was not even sure how to approach it. You make it so simple! When I go to learn this song I will refer back to this video....... With gratitude and admiration! Thank you so much (from all of us!)
Hi John, Thanks for watching! The syncopation is not easy! I promise if you keep concentrating hard on it and practising over and over, it will eventually 'click'!
Lucy, this is an unbelievable tutorial! Your method of breaking down the music into small sections makes even a challenging piece of music, (where much could go awry)....... possible! Thank you for your inspiration AGAIN!!!!!
Yes, I think they are, and good ones like yours are much needed..May I suggest that since you also include the treble notes in your great video, you also include your fingering next to those notes. Sometimes the fingering isn't visible and I think this would be a great help to some. Thank you for all of your efforts.
I watched your playing video and bought an accordion. I'm working hard on my teacher's “la noyee” tutorial. You are so pretty and thank you so much!!
Thanks heaps for this! After getting to grips with your Amelie tutorial, I made an ambitious attempt at learning this, which I can actually now kinda play, even as a novice.
I was actually hoping there was a tutorial of this song played by you! I finally got my first accordion and musette tuning as well! Which do you find easier to play, the bass or the piano keys? So many tiny little buttons... Then again some articulate tickling of the ivories as well! And also what was the ticking for or that machine you said to set at such and such in the beginning? Do people really need that?
The piano keys are easier for me because it's what I'm most familiar with. I set up a metronome to help myself stay in time. This makes it easier for people to play along with me.
Are there any differences between this tutorial and your performance video of the same song aside from Tempo? Sections 7 and 8 sound much fuller in your performance video almost like you hold certain notes into other notes. Either way thank you for these videos, you are such an inspiration and have helped my passion grow :)
Hello, no I don't think it's possible if you don't have the B row. I've played around with my accordion to find an alternative but I don't see a simple solution. I would suggest you transpose the tune. You could play it in A minor which would require you to shift the bass pattern down one row. You will be playing E major at the end of the chord progression rather than B major.
Thank you for this awesome tutorial!! It helped me a lot but I still need help to connect both hands, does someone have tips or advice to play with both hands at the same time? I can't, my hands just mix up 😢
Sarah Crslt you’re welcome Sarah! I’m going to film a video in the next couple of weeks about a useful technique for bringing both hands together. Your problem is very common. Look out for the video! :)
Hi Lucy. Thank you so much for posting this! I self taught myself this song (poorly) by ear years ago as I cannot read music. It was never right but now I can perfect it thank you! Do you play l’homme aux brass ballants? It has to be one of my favourite Yann Tiersen pieces on the accordion. Would love to see a tutorial of that! Again thank you and take care x
Dear Lucy, first of all, thank you very much for your work. I have 48 bass accordions, and the top of the bass starts with an E. so there is no B bass set. Can I make an arrangement accordingly?
Thank you so much for this!! I am trying to learn how to play it but I have found I cannot practice for more than 20 min straight, because my shoulder muscles (mostly the left) get tired, is there anything you recommend doing to either work that particular set of muscles or to improve technique? Thanks again! I love your channel!
Hi Tomas! Thanks for being here :) Any time you start using a new muscle in a different way you need to build strength and you can achieve that by doing what you're already doing; playing as long as you can and then rest and recover. I'm not an expert on strength training but if you search "how to strengthen trapezius" you'll find some non-accordion exercises to strengthen the muscle!
Another excellent tutorial! These are quite the wonderful resource, especially here in quarantine, so I hope to see more. Is it possible we can get one for Domino? Love your rendition of that piece!
I am not sure I know what syncopated is. I've watched a few videos and read the definition, but not sure how that adds up to what you are doing. It looks like you take the e minor for instance and press that and then press an adjacent key or keys and then switch to the g major and then press those adjacent keys and so on. But it is hard to tell which keys exactly are being pressed. =\
Would of been great if you had scrolled the piano notes across the screen like you did the bass ones when playing with two hands so we could time the two together better. =)
