Man, i loved how stealing your enemy's assets was a legitimate strategy in bf2. Getting their into their base secretly, then waiting for their jets or tanks to spawn, and keeping it out of their hands for the whole match. But also, lets not forget that bf2 had its share of garbage moments like spawn camping and friendly fire when people wanted the jet.
I clocked over 1k hours flying the helicopter and the bomber in that game. Almost never played on the ground. Had a SCSI hard drive that allowed me to boot into the game 15 seconds before the next guy, and always have exclusive choice of planes and helicopters. Mig was the most fun. One plane that could be put through tiniest of passes. Had to fly through every tunnel, between and under each crane. Towards the end I wasn't playing, but doing trick shots. One game, we had a group of crazy pilots who landed on the enemy base. Stole 2 of their planes, and then began flying in formation. It was beautiful. Too bad streaming and recording wasn't yet a thing, because the setups we pulled were hilarious. At one point we were flying like a snake, right on eachother's tail with virtually no distance. And that snake could drop 8 bombs in total, completely obliterating the target. With all the air assets stolen on the other side, we had nothing in the air that could challenge us. Being in a bomber with a microphone teammate was a joy. Constantly keeping eyes open and communicating targets, figuring out a plan. Sometimes griefing the enemy spawn, till the player gives up. Goes to span elsewhere, and then one of us parachutes down to steal the vehicle. I play this game nowdays, and I don't recognize any of the control. All of that muscle memory is gone. Can't do any of the old tricks and fly the helicopter about as well as a groundhog would. I used to be at the top of the charts, sinking way too much time into the game and the award chasing. It was sad, when the servers were pulled. All those meaningless medals gone. That taught me to not take any game seriously going forward. Someone will pull the plug on your pixels and none of the fake achievements will matter. Don't waste time on them. Just like the game for what it is - a pleasant waste of time.
This is the game while at work it's all I thought about. I had so many great times playing BF2 and met some amazing people along the way. I have not found a game that brought me as much joy as this one did.
Team play was amazing in that game, especially when everyone had microphones and were willing to roleplay seriously. Sometimes we loaded a Black Hawk with engineers, who could fix it faster than it was possible to shoot down. As long as the heli was angled correctly, we could last the entire game, if the pilot was good at staying between obstructions. Always having a tall building on the side, to catch rounds with. We had people take rides on wings. C4 on helicopter blades. And nearly every game, people would drive explosive cars into tanks. I was on the receiving end and on the offense. I remember annoying one player, doing the same target run over and over. Into his tank. And I could guess when he would switch flanks. Every guess was correct. And he was swearing at me more and more in the chat, till he quit, and then I was able to drive all the way to the tank to steal it. Normally server had rules listed at the beginning. Some servers prevented certain game mechanic abuses such as "grenade launcher bunny hopping". If knew what you were or weren't allowed to do, and you didn't violate riles, because voteckicking worked reliably well. Take something modern, like Hell Let Loose, and there you get deliberate teamkillers that keep rampaging through the entire round, and will never get enough votes to be forcefully removed. Voting used to be weighted against the offender, not it's balanced in favor, so it rarely ends up working. Not saying that old games were better. Controls feel all weird, and guns don't react the way you expect them. Hits feel different. I'm more used to modern shooters, because they're all standardized. Controls stay the same across everything. BF2 was a different era. It left a lot of good memories. Even though, I could've used the time better. I never feel that playing this game was a waste. It was social. And there was nothing else like it. It was entirely unique. And it was good all throughout its life. Even with a bit of exploiting, and very lite cheating. Not like COD4, where it was impossible to find a round without aimbots. The game got broken almost immediately. Was still fun, but more of "every man for himself" fun.
Battlefield 2 was probably the last time players used the commo rose or even spoke to each other, Loved this game, Never played anything else for over four years, Never been able to find the same level of enjoyment from any of these games since.
This gameplay video here proves that the post-Refactor-era Battlefield games have NO depths compared to BF2. The dynamics of the gameplay, helicopter handling, missile avoidance, TV missile duels... Man. Just awesome.
These BF2 maps were amazing, quite astonishing what a reasonable budget, developing time, and passion of the developers can do for a game instead of having commercial succes as the nr1 goal.
I remember on weekends and sometimes after school i would go to the cybercafe and got so excited to start BF2, sometimes i would bring my friends with me and dogfight together, BF2 was really the first game where i can get on vehicles and wreak havoc, so iconic
I was good at this game back in the day, usually top 3 on my team, but for the life of me, I never could direct those missiles very well. Impressive work here.
@@korky122 lol, no, they were OP as all hell, if they dont seem like that to you in this video, is because it's pretty much a full server of tryhards playing their best; the jets are actually fighting among themselves and trying to protect their own attack chopper; the AA tanks are advancing little by little. It's masterclass in gameplay this video.
Yeah a jet and an attack chopper are OP….I mean, I don’t see what’s inaccurate but anyway that’s why it’s so satisfying blowing them out the sky. I used to love strapping c4 to the jets, wait for someone to get right at the edge of the runway and blow it up lmao.

The only chance for DICE to impress the BF community is to make a BF2 like game. No bastardization and minimization like BF4, a real HUGE Battlefield with insane mechanics and deep gameplay.

Mate that's thebhardeat heli I ever had to learn to fly and mastered to the point 9f flying between trees. Forgot about it, started flying FPV quads and its three same process! FPV quad can be upto 2 years for mastery. Like that that heli was. I was flying instantly 🤣
BF2 will forever be in my heart. I still play it here and there to this day because of the nostalgia. I played this for years and to be honest, no other game has given me the same feeling BF2 did. My parents got divorced when I was 14 and that's when I picked this game up. I have such fond memories on this game because I was so lost and confused at that time. I sheltered myself for the most part and half lived on this game when I was homeschooled. Was it healthy? Probably not. But it sure did help me get through a lot of those tough and confusing times. I went on to play the BF2 Project Reality mod and then I met an amazing group of friends in the Sandbox mod. I met them 14 years ago and we all still talk to this day regularly, some of us have even met each other in person.

@@TRIPPA99 The hitreg got ass clapped after 1.41. Very weird that DICE never went back to the old, flawless hitreg( from ver. 1.0 to 1.3). Gotta get used to it again :). See you on the battlefield.
