- Here's a long one. I make an implosion marble start to finish. Borosilicate Glass. I gotta thank Thomas Dolby for inspiring me to put the camera on a headset. Check my favorites for that video.

Wonderful! I never considered breaking the punty off while it sat in the mold, so I'm glad you included that. Thank you for sharing your skills!
Oooo... I am sooo glad you liked it. It was so much fun to put together. I am looking forward to doing the next one.

The more of the videos I watch, the more I want to switch over to boro
Wow.. I strongly admire ur talent ... Truly amazing
I've always been interested in glass blowing, I think it's amazing, glass looks like carmel when its hot like that, and the different things you can make is awesome. I would love to learn how to do stuff like this and glass blowing. Plus you can be creative and be proud of what you make, also you can make useful things like vase's, bowls, plates, all kinds of things, make them for your home, or give them as gifts, and the best gifts I think are the kind you make.
Wow. Thank you. You have a rare skill you have developed there. Great Video.
Very nice. I like the headset idea
The box is an electric annealing kiln and is used to prevent cracking. In this example I am putting the marble in a kiln that is preheated to 1050F, holding it at that temp for at least 30 minutes and cooling slowly over night.
I don't know about talent, but it takes a bit of cash and determination to get your studio set-up. It isn't really a good craft for a "dabbler". If you do get set-up, flameworking is a tremendous amount of fun and there will always be new stuff to learn.
Great stuff ty for sharing , only question I have is where is your vent system I don't want to see you get heavy metal poising or suck up to much acidic air and Co2 from your concentrators if you use them instead of tanks.
OK daft question, but when you're heating to draw down the sides, I assume you concentrate the flame on the outside edge, and hold so that gravity pulls the glass down and over the dots?
Also, during that process, when you press the piece onto the marver pad, are you just trying to ensure that as the glass moves it stays even?
GREAT!!! just like all your great previous vids!!!MUY BUENO(VERY GOOD) HOPE TO SEE ANOTHER 1 SOON!!!!
I think you mean carbonized. I'm not that careful with my PSI settings. They run between 10-15 PSI for both O2 and Propane. I watch my torch face VERY carefully while I'm working, and make sure none of the ports glow red or have carbon buildup. I clean the carbon off my torch face with a brass brush while I'm working and when I'm done. Basic Maintenance.
You blinded me with SCIENCE!
nice work man! dots are fun! I should go make some marbles...........
I think its wonderful and the video is quality thank you ...
first time i seen anyone wear gloves doing this and i been fascinated for about 20 years and started messing around with it myself more recently just got a kiln and trying to learn techniques and how not to drop everything lol
You need a vin pin, it helps with uniformity for sure. I still like doing free hand implosions, but nothing beats the look of a perfectly gridded out urchin
Really really good. Very informative!
Master at work :-)
amazing! you made it look so easy!
but if i tried that i think i would burn every inch of skin on my hands.. not to mention the large puddle of glass there would be under the table once it burned all the way through..
excellent video there i loved it :)
Thanks for the tip akglass. I am getting much better at using the torch and controlling the heat so I don't burn my fingers any more. Nuthin' like practice eh?
~Ross
I really enjoyed the video. You make it look so easy but we all know it isn't. Thank you
most of us have no idea about how marbels are made..so u go ahead n say ur de master behind every marbel there is and we would still believe u..hehe anyway gr8 video, amazing technique
nice, I'd like to have that much skill. thanks for another great video ;)
Thanks for the Vid> I'm looking at getting into SOME kind of glass work, and this really has my interest. If I can find a buyer for one of my kidneys, I might be able to get started. Nice work!
thanks you so much for sharing!
Thank you! I may try that some day!
Nice, I really enjoyed watching and learning from this. I wish you would post more marble videos. I was wondering though, what is the tool you use at the very end for moving the marble into the kiln? Also, after you apply the dots, do you implode it but when the "cup" starts to form, you press it? Does this just go on until the dots meet at a point, or do you stop pressing at one point?
where do you buy the large clear glass rods?
he just showed you exactly how he made it.
what type of torch are you using
Your work space is too clean. Nice video, thanks for sharing.
ur awesome u inspire me to do that
the mould looked smooth, i mean wont it smudge the glass?
Very nice work, where is your vent ?
try this for getting rid of flat spots. when you on the last step to burn off the punty mark. Work a little farther out from the mark and work into. I find it to work much easier. Good Video!
thanks for sharing
The marble mold and my flameworking glasses are from Aura Lens auralens(dot)net I only use Aura Lens glasses.

Прекрасный урок !
Замечательные изделия !
Liquid fuel Zippo brand lighters will not explode. I have taken white hot gathers of glass and dropped them right on the metal case. Dries out the lighter but that is it. I do not use strikers. Thank-you for your concern but in this case you are mistaken.
how did you get a 30 min. video on youtube? I'm trying to upload my video of me doing a bead but it's 12min. and it wont let me
Imagine I clamped the torch to the table....
awesome flick. I see it was years ago and the quality is obviously lower. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make more videos like this and use a gopro headcam ($215 total shipped on amazon, totally worth it), or $400~ if you want the super 4K HD resolution gopro. Thanks for sharing your work! Cheers
I'm workin' on it! ;>)
No. I just watched it over again and I couldn't even find where I said something that sounded like Killiam.
Ross
Cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!
very nice. do you learn to make marbles by yourself or you learned from somene?
is anyone else curious as to how in the world his video is 30mins long or is it just me
@xhellabentx Its a GTT Mirage
WOW A GLASSSMITH COOL.
It is a GTT Mirage. What is a ruffle bead?
~R
I just want to know how much money do you have in the one marble not counting your time just materials/gas/o2
Danny Millhouse 6bux
Get 28fr a full oxygen tank 23 for full propane 4 dollars for 10 4mm clear glass rods. And 4 dollars per color rod. Clear rods are 4ft and color are only 20inches
Best music to put this to- Foster The People XD Did it by mistake, worked perfectly.
cmon ross i need to see some new material...=)...jk but seriously i wanna see some new stuff im really excited!
what was the signifigance of the box you placed it in?
Generally, where do you buy these supplies? Interested in learning! I'm sure you're annoyed with the hundreds of people which state so on every video :P, been interested for years and always thought it to be much more intimadating. Not that this doesnt require talent, I just had something much much more futher away in cost than this
your voice is wonderful. you're like a wimpy, white morgan freeman. will you read to me how you make your next pendant while i drift into dreamworld?

@slukowsk It is built into the window as usual.
GTT Mirage
Everyone should look-up John Kobuki Glass if you want to see "master work" marbles! Seriously mind blowing skill!
-Acroduster- send me another message. Somehow the "elegant universe" message got deleted and I can't reply. I have a question for you...
hotglass yes Kobuki is a master his marbles are absolutely amazing
It was very cold that night. Why is this such a big deal for some folks?? I got about 10 emails about the gloves...
I like pie
How much would you charge for that marble?
You'd think it would be: Materials + Gas + Electric + Labour = Quite expensive when you look at it that way no?
Very good video with the head-cam =]
Wow. And I thought marbles were easy to make.
If the health and safety departments had their way nothing would ever be made. So much culture being lost forever because of insurance companies and law suits!
wow
no the molds are graphite and does not adhere to the glass what bits of carbon do usually burn off if not usually an unwanted material is to blame not the mold blow or wipe with a paper towel to clear the mold of debris. IE dust a shard of glass or frit.
please teach us your technique!
Man i have no idea how you can work with the gloves..lol more power to ya.
let your marble cool waaaaay longer before you put it into the mold and try turning in one direction... you will be amazed with the difference.. take care
You will need to apply for a different account. I think it is now called Guru or something. I was grandfathered in from the original system. Let me know how it goes.

this comment was meant to be a reply to giovmatts comment.
It take longer than 30 minutes. I cut a bunch out. Plus there is prep work and overnight in the kiln. How much something costs isn't related to how long it take to make it but how long it takes to learn to make it. This isn't factory work. Handmade borosilicate marbles sell for $40 to $250 or more depending on the skill involved and name of the artist. Check "Etsy" for handmade marbles.
hotglass also check (Zac lost his marbles) he sells marbles made by many of the best glass artists out there Kobuki being one of them. Zac is a extremely good guy and has been selling art marvles for many years now he gets them directly from the artists and most of the time its the inly way to get the artists pieces.
@thisworldisgoinunder - Use Google and look up: ABR Imagery, Generations Glass, Winship Designs, Ftantz Art Glass just to name a few online distributors. Lots of cool stuff out there.
gloves???? Why??
dooooooooood im a nub and all but uhhh isnt your flame supposed to be a little bit away from the front of the torch with a surface mix? looks like you are beating up your candles on that torch from the camera angle atleast
AmericanCannoisseurs the flow of gasses are used to cool the torch head but malfunction do happens
GLOVES??/ no gloves are needed!!!!GTT and no Aim kiln?lol
Very nice/ pretty!! can I have that one please??!! LOL
haha ty i made one butt uhhh is not a marble i tryed but it came oout to be a shot glass
Umm... That's how it's done. Even the pro's use a marble mold. I didn't demonstrate the best technique but molds are part of the process to get a perfectly round marble. I'm willing to learn other techniques so if you care to demonstrate a moldless marble, I'll watch.
Thank-You, but it is more like Amateur at Play... ;-)
yes, you would believe, but hotglass knows just as I do that if we are dishonest about where we are, the real glass community will not play very nicw with us in the future. they tend to all disslike people that claim mastery, then show up at glass events and demo normal and average stuff. but hotglass is at least a little beyond amateur at play, I would say very formed and functional artist, and approaching marble master.-)
thats a 1800 dollars torch :( can i borrow $1800????
editing....
wrong! the bethlehem design was developed by a research scientist specializing in thermodynamics and patented in 1957. LONG before gtt was even around! and a baracuda is a model of bethlehem torch! AND THERE IS NO BEST TORCH! that is the mindset of disaster! it means you are more interested in tools than in glass art! if I was making only goblets I would want a herbie! if large marbles a GTT, if pendants a baraccuda...............
I thought your video was very interesting and informative but the plot sucked. I just watched the entire 30 min video and I have no idea what it looks like. You took so much time in describing every step and yet you didn't wrap it up to see the final end result. It starts from the beginning and ends in the kiln...what does it look like now?
the final product is shown at the beginning of the video, and then again in the middle if I remember correctly.
