practically, bungie made some inspiration form the predator. the things similar is the mandibles, the species' honor (yautja's slightly different with honor), have an elegant body, massively intelligent, and are just oplain ugly
The dreadlocks the Yautja (the predator species) have aren't necessarily hair, per se. It's a hard cartilage like substance that grows in place of hair.
I hate how the ultimate City hunter and Jungle hunter are over 100 bucks, when they used to be 40! Now I have to get this guy to compensate! He still looks badass though.
The articulation is much better than the older predators, the double jointed elbow, knees and the upper torso articulation didn't exist, the look even better now, damn you Anthony for making me wanna start buying them again! Great review.
I actually used the hot water trick on my AVP Celtic and he actually has a double ball peg/barbell joint in his mid torso. It's just very restricted by all the bulk of the figure
I have this predater it is fantastic BUT the tube connecting to the shoulder broke and the spear broke right out of the packaging and so did the plasma caster but it's still good!
Nice review as always. I saw that you got the predator accessories pack and I wanted to let you know that blast effects are for two different type of plasma casters. The blue one is for the more typical one that is circular and the orange one is for the predator 2 (city hunter) caster which is more of a flat design.
They are big bcuz neca is very respectfull of the scale... if you take the arnold (from predator) figure and put it next to the predator figure is just simply amazing.
wait for the "ulitmate" city hunter and Jungle hunters. these are based off Predator 1 and Predator 2 movies and are the best imo. unless you want to collect them all then you can do that too.

NECA has come a long way in the last few years; I still prefer the monsterarts predator Wolf but that's because of the articulation and overall sturdiness: this has that one beat in price and proportions, while matching it paintjob wise....so yeah, it's a pretty great deal. It's a damn shame DC doesn't hire NECA for releasing certain characters, I'd love to get NECA renditions of the darker characters such as Constantine, Deadman & Swamp Thing...they don't fit DC's line.
I know what kind of point you're making, but in reality both Swamp Thing & Deadman have been recently released as part of the DC ICONS line so I guess the demand, while quite small, is enough to produce them. But yeah the budget that DC allowed for ST is too small to render enough detail and accurate sculpt. Deadman was pretty decent.

biggest complaint for me with neca- is the loose joints, and easy breakage. sculpts and paint apps are phenomenal-

The disk is called a "smart disk" and is controlled by his wrist computer, also the gun is called a "Plasma caster".

I'm not much of a Predators or Alien fan, but I've convinced my self to get one of each to go with my MK figures because of just how great they are.

I suspect we're looking at the sculpt for Neca's upcoming "30th Anniversary" ultimate Jungle Hunter predator with removable mask and whatnot.
