You're forgetting that Grant started off as an elite defender before he picked up his scoring. He's a way better defender than Randle not just a better 3 point shooter. Marshall just wants the Knicks to win. Randle has little to no trade value because he generally doesn't fit on a good team and bad teams don't want to start over with him. With the Knicks, I can see Randle as the 6th man or a small ball 5 to sometimes close games, but I'd prefer to have another quality big that can defend.

It's a trade that makes sense, if Grant comes with extra pick or some other value. Grant fits better with knicks due to his defensive ability. However, why would blazers want Julius? Unless a 3rd team gets involved, maybe a team like warriors, it doesn't make much sense, but at that point, why should warriors get involved with Knicks? They can just make 2 team trade and warriors can get jermi grant themselves instead of making complicated 3 way trade.
