Fact: Sergio Catalán (the man on the horse) rode 10 hours his to get to the police station.
He has been treated like family by the survivors and they paid for his hip operation
He passed in 2020 (I think)

The US loves war movies. That’s why they had to nominate The Zone of Interest in both categories, because Oppenheimer already got the Oscar for best film (war related, sort of) and it will give The Zome of Interest will get the foreign one. Unfortunate. I think Society is way a better movie.

Some details that usually go unnoticed:
    - They had never seen snow
-The highest mountain in Uruguay is 516m. (for real)
-They didn't have time to aclimatize to the height an they were suffering from altitude sickness.
    -They were at over 4000m.
At that heights and temperatures you need to eat at least 10.000 Kcal just to survive..
-They didn't have any mountain equipment, only had mocassins and rugby shoes

J.A. Bayona filmed more hours but he thought the movie could be so much long, so there are things no seen. One thing he discarded was the Carlos Valeta's death. He was the only one passenger in the plane's tail who survived, but when he walked to his friends he sank down into the show and nevera was found. He was the person who you can see flying out when the plane crash.

    Some facts about the movie:
Three of the survivors made cameos in the movie:
    - Fernando "Nando" Parrado: opens the airport door to his character at the beginning of the movie.
    - Roberto Canessa: Plays a doctor when they are received at the hospital because he is a doctor in the real life.
    - Carlos Paez Rodríguez: Represents his own father (Carlos Paez Vilaró) when he reads the list of survivors reading the name of his own son (“Carlitos Miguel Paez, my son”).
And they were there for 72 days. On the first day of rescue, they took some of them and a group of rescuers stayed who set up a tent a little away because of the smell. The next day they rescued the others.
    - The house where Numa arrives is the real Numa's house and the walker is a Numa's nephew.
    - The suitcase that Gustavo Zerbino didn't want to leave in the Andes was full of belongings of the deceased that he took to their respective families.
    - The actors underwent a diet under strict medical supervision so that their bodies would more realistically reflect the effects of what the survivors went through.
    - The survivors and the families of those who passed away say that this movie is much more faithful to the real events, unlike the film 'Alive!' which was more of a spectacle than a tribute. In addition to changing the names of the characters, they altered almost the entire story.
    - All the survivors (except for 2 who died in 2015 and 2023) are still alive. You can search for their accounts on Instagram.
    - The location of the accident (Valle de las Lágrimas [Valley of Tears]) can still be visited today, starting from Argentina (as it is a substantially shorter journey): it takes several days on horseback and hiking through the mountains. It requires several days of planning and good physical condition.
    - They were there for 72 days. On the first day of the rescue, they took some of them to a different place, and a group of rescuers set up a tent a bit away because of the smell. The next day, they rescued the rest.
    Hugs from Argentina. 🤗

100% agree... where are the rest of the Oscar nominations? Deserves nomination for best picture, best director, visual effects, cinematography, original score, screen adaptation. It won 12 of the 13 goyas it was nominated for. It was totally an experience. I liked it better than Oppenheimer. It is a masterpiece in story telling... you don't only see the story, you feel like you are part of it.

@@watchingcodyrice Probably. I don’t remember the title. But once u watch one, u might get trapped with all the other interviews and programs related to the tragedy that the algorithm sends u. At least, that happened to me, even though i have known the story practically all my life, because it happened when i was 10, and as an Uruguayan, we practically suffered it, first hand, because we were all waiting for a miracle. It is funny but something inside always told me they were alive, but i never mentioned it then. The other day for the first rime I told that to one of my sisters, and she said she also had the same feeling.

Will not win the OSCAR, because:
1 It is not Anglo-Saxon (and goes against a German spoken a-s movie).
2 It is not politically correct (no women, no gays, etc.).
    3. Goes against a movie with a topic of interest for Jews (who have big influence (money) in the Academy).
    4. USA culture is very individualistic and this movie is about the group over individualisms.
    5. USA culture have in very low esteem spanish-speaking culture. But this is our blame, because we do not respect ourselves: We are pending of the OSCARS, but they do not give a damn about iberoamerican awards. We see much more Hollywood movies than our own, but in USA they almost do not watch iberoamerican movies. We should have a little dignity and see much more movies from our culture and much less Hollywood trash, and we should give a damn about the OSCARs.

"Alive" is an excellent film. Until "The Society of the Snow" came out, all of us who grew up with the American version loved it. And in fact, we still love it!! I definitely love it (and I'm argentinian). Just because the new film better reflects the emotions of the story doesn't mean that the other version is bad. Is it more Hollywood? Yeah. But it's also very entertaining and exciting for the time in which it was made. Not to mention that it's a Yankee production. It is a classic of cinema and that will not change. Although "Society of the Snow" will definitely mark a "before and after" in relation to this story.
