Very odd. Horses for courses. If it works, that's all that matters at the Olympics.
Are there different sizes for diff riders, or is it a one size fits all? The seat position all the way back suggests the latter, or a design whoopsie.

A small detail, the bike as is looks like it has standard hex nuts on a solid steel axle, at odds with modern hollow thru axle choice. Seems such old school items are just the job, but it could benefit from some locking nut or improved material.

Bike Radar did a piece on it in 2019 when it was introduced. Bike frame 15,500 GBP, with bars and wheels, 26,000 GBP. They have a breakdown of prices in the article. Those prices will have risen since then.

It looks cool but when you see such a small difference it makes me think you could easily mandate everyone rides more basic bikes for sustainability reasons and you wouldn’t be losing anything much in terms of performance. It wouldn’t be noticeable enough for viewers. I wouldn’t go as far as they do in Japanese Keirin racing where they all ride super old stuff, but definitely a more standard and possibly aluminium current design.
