This was a wholesome conversation, can never have one without contradictions, doubts and questions, what was beautiful was hearing your take or side of it. WIN-WIN-WIN scenario, where the business wins, the employees win and so do the comsumers/community. Kudos Joel. Keep up the honest thoughts and conversations. We are rooting for you.

Joel, you're brilliant. I'm keen to know, how do you think policymakers and regulators can create an enabling environment for the growth of startups in the context of Low-Income Countries? I think our policymakers have made a fair attempt but have fallen drastically short in creating legislation and policy that works for Uganda.

They really have tried. I figure associations formed around tech startups especially can help set guidelines around sound vs speculative and exploitative business practices. Also having cr open critical discussions around start-up culture at hubs and universities- not every startup needs to exit or become a union. The dynamics that created that in Silicon Valley don't necessarily work here.
I feel like we need older business people as well involved and mentoring these new entrepreneurs. The temptation to bend the facts to earn big is huge, we need some wisdom along with the promises of fame and fortune.
I prefer how places like Singapore are doingng i, with a focus on fundamentals and aligned to local financial markets

@joel please shed some light on what Singapore has tried to do. What fundamentals are they focusing on.. an example or lead to more on this, would be super appreciated.

@@DavidTumwine-y7z Absolutely will do. Might package it together with the "Capitalism with Asian characteristics " exploration when we look at how Asian Tigers have adopted and utilized Capitliist enterprise with strong state controls.

Never understand why people are obsessed with leaving a legacy. What happens after I die means nothing to me, only to those living enjoy it. I care about what i can do and enjoy while am alive. If that helps others when am dead, good for them.

    Whatever you're saying is UTOPIA

I respectfully disagree. Wanting to build better and more responsible businesses is not utopian, it's very reasonable to hold people to account.
