I’m baffled by the fact that the police seemed more concerned about apprehending, and prosecuting the young man who purchased the stolen phone, than they are about locating and prosecuting the third killer. While, buying a stolen phone is a crime; it’s a petty crime. It doesn’t, necessarily, make one complicit in a murder. Unless, he knew about the murder, when he purchased the deceased man’s phone. However, the third man, who the younger brother witnessed at the scene of the crime; he has blood on his hands, and needs to be brought to justice for his part in the murder. The confessions of the two brothers does not, nor should not, exempt him from this crime.

I get what you are saying about buying a “high end” phone for that less. However, he doesn’t deserve that treatment. Yes, I do agree he should have questioned it from the get go, but that doesn’t leave out the fact that he thought he was striking a good deal. Which I would like to believe he thought he was. Just that, it went wrong this time around. Where I live, people may sell way more valuable items for less when they are jammed, but most at times it authentic. However, I pray he gets a warning and they release him.

Being in possession of a stolen property is a strict liability crime. Whether you knew it was stolen or not, you are liable and would be found guilty and convicted to the required number of jail term under the law. So be warned. I didn't know it was a stolen phone is no defence at law and you don't get warned, you get jailed.
I don't think there's a justification for buying a high end phone for 3k. This is not anywhere near a good deal, he should have walked away from the deal

Ashan should have made the people know that he came with someone, his brother. They wouldn't have been able to kill ashan knowing he didn't come alone. It's very wrong to go somewhere and with the knowledge of everyone thinking you are alone. It puts you at risk.

Daniel thanks so much for the update, but the same thing happened here in Ghana last week, 26 years old gold dealer was at at his home town for some funeral and one of his friends called him to his base that there is some gold for him to buy and immediately he got there he was shot in the eye killing him instantly, he didn't even get down from a car he bought previous day, his engine was still on, but no suspect has been arrested and it happened on afternoon whiles people were there but bcos of the shooting they couldn't do anything

Well done for excellent reporting. Although the person that bought the phone may not be aware that its stolen. However many people fall victim of stolen property and a deterrent is necessary. This 3rd perpetrators needs to be found and the phone buyer needs to dealt with separately.
