She lost power soon after. Her son got to be an emperor because he was the oldest surviving son of Qianlong at the time. Still, Qianlong was the regent during Yongyan’s earlier years.
She indeed did live a quite long life compared to Princess Nara (whom Ruyi was based on). But their faiths were similar, both were practically deposed but retained their noble titles.
The drama was supposed to have Consort Dun story arc right towards the end, also with a different ending of Ruyi using her death to inflame Ling in the eyes of Qianlong. But the drama wasn’t well received plot wise, with Ruyi character drawing most of the viewership. They changed to less depressing ending and Consort Dun arc was cut off completely.
She was supposed to be Hailan’s understudy who got brought in because Dun looked just like teenage Ruyi. Dun was favoured immediately. Qianlong pampered her and she got to rule the harem almost immediately. Ling lived with empty power and paranoia, and lost her mind. The harem was supposed to be peaceful under Dun’s control (aka de facto Hailan’s), with Dun highly favoured and Yu/Hailan well respected. This was to reflect Dun’s rewards in real life, and to honour Keliyete Hai, who was the longest serving concubine of Qianlong of almost 60 years in actual history.
@@nightingalecat ling was actually poisoned to death like the ending, because her body was found preserved. No it was makeup with mercury, because her skin would’ve had a reaction first. And the emperor would not be attracted to her. And ling never took care of her children as well. She was most likely used by the empress dowager, to take down ruyi. Because of her aunt. And the emperor had to get rid of ruyi clan. Plus the ula Nara women have some type of empress curse. Ruyi was the 3rd empress who didn’t become dowager again. Ling died because he knew what she did, he just waited to end her. No maid was going to become dowager.
