Love this! I got a Shih-Tzu Bishon mix and she’s the first dog I’ve ever owned. I had no idea the amount of daily grooming went into caring for these dogs. Or any dogs, I guess. So this video really helped a lot!
Thank you so much! I just adopted a 10yo male Shih Tzu and he is a grumpy old man. I'm giving him time to adjust but definitely will use your techniques to help make grooming easier. He bites when you get too close to his face--probably because his old teeth are tender. Hopefully I can build some trust and avoid his sore spots.
She’s so pretty! It takes daily training from the time get your puppy. I got my 10 month old puppy at 6 weeks and watching RUclips and Suzanne has made my puppy love grooming! I learned to do it myself and have saved a ton on money. Lol Miss your livestreams Suzanne. Hope you are doing well. Denise
Excellent educational video, Suzanne! It's so helpful for pet parents to see exactly how to approach training at home. Bridget is such a pretty girl. Love her coloring. Thank you for sharing!
Hi Suzanne, , been missing your lives. Just had my shop broken into and robbed/ransacked. They took 2 of my groomers harnesses and that broke my heart. Will be ordering more soon. At 63 years old it almost makes me want to give up. But NOT GONNA DO IT LOL thanks for all you do for us groomers. Hope all is well with you and Fam.
Thank you so much for this information. I have a 11 month old Shorkie (3/4 Shih-Tzu, 1/4 Yorkie) and I am trying to learn to do as much myself so I don't have to take him to the groomer as often. I have a grooming table and have invested in some tools though I must say, I had never seen the Diane comb before and the design of it is brilliant so I just bought one. My difficulty with Cooper is that his head/vision follows my hand wherever it goes, to the side of his head, above his head, etc so it has been difficult to clean and trim his face since he won't stay still. I had never seen the "C" hold of the face before so definitely going to try that. Plus I need to make use of treats like you do. Oh and glad you mentioned to really soak the eye area with water before even attempting to comb out the hair around the eyes. And one other thing I didn't know was to pull up on the eyes because of a fold of skin below their eyes, I didn't know about this fold.
Your video was extremely helpful. My Shih Tzu puppy, Stella is 4 months old and it has been very difficult to clean her face. The head holding technique with treats worked. I also feel much more confident working with her. She has not been professionally groomed yet. I wish that we had groomers like you in Monroe, Louisiana. I am a fan for life. Thank you .
This is SO INCREDIBLY helpful! We adopted our first Shih-Tzu puppy and have been trying to get him used to basic daily grooming hygiene. I can’t wait to start these tips with him. I would love for his first groom to be positive 💕💕
Totally agree! Pet owners should know what a dog need before they decided to get one. I was a groomer assistant and I remember when I went through this bad situation. It was awful, so stressful. Thanks for sharing this 👍
Thanks for such a great video. We have been trying to learn about grooming our 2 ShiChi sisters for 9 months. Your C hold info is great. Same with the holding upper eyes back. I recently learned about practicing to make ponytails, too. We've been trying several desensitization techniques, but yours hit home the most. We became aware of the Matt's about at 8 months of age when their hair changed quite a bit. I didn't quite get the name of the type of comb or brush you have. I havent seen that comb offered where I've been trying to purchase items for the girls. Thanks again for showing HOW to do this. 🥰🤩😍
thank you for the info and doing this video! Where can I get one of those brushes for my shih tzu face grooming? also is it possible to use a cream rinse to soften the crusties and keep it tangle free?
Our rescue shih tzu has very thin hair so it is much easier to maintain and keep tangle-free. Her eyes on the other hand have been pretty problematic in her old age. She loves to rub her face around after eating and that irritates her eyes and causes lots of buildup. Have you found that it is better to keep a shih tzu face shaved if there are eye issues?
Hi this is Lisa Hatfield I love your videos this video I just watched is with trimmers can you help me train my shih tzu to cut her face with scissors. She is terrified of the scissors but I can trim and cut her face with clippers I would like to use scissors some times thank you again and you are wonder and the asian fusion cut is my favorite and I am little by little able to create that style your help will be very appreciated thank you again
Hello, you are amazing. What was the rubber comb, for face, Diane Comb? Where to buy? What shampoo and conditioner for a Lhasa Apso? Brushing spray? My girl is growing all hair out. Not show dog length. But natural with a bit of a trim. I bathe her once a week. But I need more guidance. Thank you. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

You are so welcome. Remember she will be teething for the next 8 weeks.
Amazing, informative video Suzanne! Videos like this would make fantastic Intermission Videos!

that fur baby is beautiful love her color ....
Well said & well done !!!!
My pup got tuckered out running around my neighbor's yard with her brother. Easier to brush when they're sleeping! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
thank you for the info and doing this video! Where can I get one of those brushes for my shih tzu face grooming? also is it possible to use a cream rinse to soften the crusties and keep it tangle free?
The Paw Brothers Flexible Brush is great. I use mostly warm water to soak the eyes crusts. But I do add conditioner at the end.
Our rescue shih tzu has very thin hair so it is much easier to maintain and keep tangle-free.

Yes, and they are prone to dry eye. You may want to ask for a tear test. Dry eye Treatment could really help if that is the problem.
What is the type of comb is that because I can’t find it anywhere

@@grandestyledoggrooming Thank you. So the Diane Comb would be the Debeman Comb? Thank so much.
Sorry found it Denman CombD12 Detangle and Tease. Silly me. I’m in New Zealand very hard to get stuff here. Lhasa very rare. Thanks again. Jacqueline
The Dianne comb was unavailable for a while. The Denman and the Dianne are almost identical.
Where can I get the comb?
