    Wait until you put the bonnet release cable back into the pull - it is a SOB.

    Great tips on opening up the vacuum pods at 8:19 - those are a real bitch to take apart. I've broken a lot of them 😭 There's also a pod behind the center vent that controls the recirculation flap. It's not pink, but that one is a PITA to remove also. I'd recommend rebuilding that one too. I used two screwdrivers to hold/counter hold and turn the tabs. That one is NLA- but you can use a diaphragm from Performance Analysis. I can confirm they're still in business 🙂 George is super cool

      afaik that additional central pod is only on the later tempmatik cars with central heated nozzles - or all versions of automatic.

      @@MMWA-DAVE Thanks, you've answered my question. Personally, I think the Tempmatic system used on the Aus. cars is just fine.....and given how all of this started, the fewer pods the better.

      @@MMWA-DAVE Oh wow - I didn't even consider that! 🙂 I am jealous of the climate control unit the rest of the world got. The automatic one we got in the USA is not the best.

    Bless you for using plastic tools. Thanks again for making these informative videos...........I hope I never need to do this job. I'm also curious as to how some cars experience failure & some don't - is it down to pure mileage or is it more storage conditions over the lifetime of the vehicle i.e. garaged vs. not? Is it just sheer luck?

      For these pods, it's just the rubber failing eventually. There are two diaphragms inside each vacuum pod. The top one is "usually" OK, but the bottom one is often broken on cars I see. It's thin rubber and gets actuated fairly often, it'll eventually fail. Dry climates like Arizona USA (where I'm at) might make it worse. The plastic and rubber components on 30+ year old cars will crumble if you look at them wrong here 😂

    Hi, love your videos, very informative. You taught me a lot :)
    i have a question. Mine w124 is 1994 with a passenger airbag.
    Do you think would it be possible to ditch the airbag and install the glove box?
    Or i need another dash?
    W124 is cool and all but it does lack space without the glove box.

    • @user-ok4ot3ph3m
      @user-ok4ot3ph3m 5 месяцев назад +1

      No problemas to replace passenger airbag with glove box. No need to replace dash. You will need to remove reinforcement bars around airbag and replace passenger knee pad for version with glove box. Obviously, you will also need all glove box parts in matching color.
      The facia panel from your airbag needs removing (loosen plastic nuts and slide wooden panel side ways) and mounting onto glove box lid since the wood grain are uniqe and matched from the factory.
      Good luck 👍

    To be honest, it doesn't look as bad as I thought it would, half of these things I have taken apart on mine before already. Is there anything that can be done regarding rebuilding the vacuum pods? Or do they have to be replaced? Once again, thank you for documenting this procedure!

    • @MMWA-DAVE
      @MMWA-DAVE  5 месяцев назад +1

      they arent made anymore, theres only a handful of nos ones left and people are asking stupid money for them. You absolutely can rebuilt these double diaphragm ones and thats exactly what ill be doing. Have the kits on the way from performance analysis in usa.

    • @MMWA-DAVE

      i’d rather wait till that was a problem, neither of my w124’s original heater cores or ac evaporators leak.

      @@MMWA-DAVE - Correct answer 'esp if you know your cooling system is free of debris/junk & you're fastidious with running high-quality coolant & regular replacement (2 years here). My original radiator developed a pinhole leak on the plastic side-pod at 28yrs old.............replaced it with a Mahle (Behr) Premium Line that started leaking after 12 months! I can only imagine how utterly livvid I would be if I had replaced the heater core under such circumstances. Parts quality these days is a fraction of what it was in the 90's - replace parts with "new" carefully..
