Should we buy the world's filthiest Peugeot 106??

- Siôn has been left the keys and the V5 to a 1992 Peugeot 106 1.4 diesel. But he doesn't know whether he should actually take it on! Join us as we discuss the dilemma and maybe get this filthy Peugeot its first clean in 18 months!
I love how obsessive Sion is about decontenting his cars, hasn't even bought it and he's already pulling the wheel trims off
If you keep this it needs to go on kitchs dyno...
And Jim thinks fondling a knob is hetro? Lol
He can't change the habit of a lifetime
Well, as far as 106s of this vintage go, it's not THAT basic: it's got a glovebox lid, a rear wiper and a radio cassette. When I was 18 a friend of mine bought an XSi and he did so many handbrake turns with it that he actually broke off the handbrake lever from its mountings...
Seems to be a UK thing. The base Xn here was badged Graduate and had a scattergun of extras added over the euro XN
So some have a rear wiper, some don't, same with the sunroof. But the glovebox lid and radio was always standard. Sion is eyeing up the blanking plates already lol
My favourite thing about getting a new old car is the decontamination of it. Even more so if it's a filth box. I'm making it mine. The next best thing is getting all forensic with it's history.
Funny you should say forensic as that was a word that definitely came to mind in this pug lol
I love this. Other than the sporty ones, this is the perfect 106 spec and I love the steelies. Totally with Sion on this. It would be cool to own, but my big feet can”t work the pedals in early 106/Saxos. This is cockroach car and as long as rot doesn’t get to it there is nothing that’s going to kill it.
We are thinking of getting it professionally rust treated
Love the start with Jim doing a sort of David Attenborough voice over in the foreground "here is Sion, in his natural habitat, about to begin to research hub caps for this one" 😂 I think it could be great fun doing it up. Diesel though - was a bit surprised
Sometimes it feels like we are going to get West Nile Fever from some of the cars we look at lol
I think if you pulled the seats, interior and carpets out of the car, jetwash them all, shampoo and clean them up, then get a paintless dent repair guy on the case you could make that pretty presentable. Get the wheels sandblasted and repainted and it will lift it no end. As an AX GT owner I love the 106 but we didn't get any here in Australia.
The woman from Tesco did an amazing job on the interior, very happy with it
I’ve been looking out for one of these early ones 🙈 I’d love to own it 😂
Last fun little Peugeot
Damn I wish it was harder to start! Love the cranking sound of an old Peugeot
😉
It's an interesting car in which the following aspects need to be taken into account:
Positive: very economical and good for the city for its size;
Negatives: it's noisy but you can live with that, the steering is very heavy regardless of tyre pressure and it's slow, you won't be able to do a spint with this car, it's really slow.
The final choice depends on what you're going to use it for, but for me, despite its faults, it's worth saving.
You'll be glad to hear we think the same
I've had a first generation 106 XR myself with 1.1 litre TU engine. One day a lady in a BMW cut me off and dented the front wing. I collected insurance money, took out the indicator unit, pushed the wing from the inside and the dent was gone. 😅
The TUD is newer than the XUD, it's basically a TU petrol engine converted to diesel. Don't know about its longevity though. And being an XN instead of XR trim, it means it lacks a stabiliser bar, so it will have more body roll, and probably lacks more amenities like interval wiper setting.
Yes it's fairy basic but that poverty porn thing gives Sion a boner so fair be it lol
Nearly spat my tea out at the smurf comment 🤣
🤣
Sorry!
It's always surprising what PDR businesses can recover. Might be possible to get some of it back to its previous un-dented form.
Will be a process that we will explore over the next few months but I think the dents make it a little more 'French'
Spunking In The Door Bins is your new album title!
Oh my god!!! 🤣
a good wet vac of the door trims and seats and that will look amazing
The woman from Tesco did an amazing job in the little time they had it
Great choice, I had the later 1.5 XND in Phase 2 facelift. Slow but so ecoomical and lots of fun. Glad you have taken it on! This cleaned up well for a first pass and that carpet is jolly blue!
We now have matching mats!
MOT history is pretty good & just under 40k for a diesel is nothing!
Great cheap daily & the diesels can do silly mileage. A chap I
met last year had one that had done around 340k & still going
strong! Straighten the bodywork out & keep her on the fleet! 👍😊
Think that was what was behind Sion's love for it
@@alsodriven Understandably! Trust me they are really good little cars & the diesel options can run & run! It’s normally corrosion that kills them & in all the places you can’t easily see/access! Will be interested to see what you decide? 👍😉
@@robk3596 Rustproofing, that's our next big decision as it's solid in all the places that usually go and we want to keep it that way
@@alsodriven Cool, that’s a great starting point & perhaps a reason to keep her! 👍
I had a phase 1 diesel in that colour (M-reg) I loved it even though the heater didn't work and I couldn't lock it as it was broken into so many times, never let me down though
Not much equipment to go wrong on it lol
Let's be honest, immediately ripping the wheel trims off CLEARLY indicates this is a keeper. Nothing a good detail and some time with the PDR guy can't fix. But really, that's far from the most disgusting car I've seen😂
Siôn has edited so many of my comments from the video about the state of the previous owner...
Dumpit 2: Dumpy Boogaloo?
Ideal for Mr.Kitch's 24 hour challenge. You'd be round the bend before the day was out though.
Ebay door (if available), Ebay glovebox (similar), T-cut the roof (will last a month but who cares) and flog it to a student who needs to commute to Carlisle half a dozen times a year for £900.
Think it's a keeper on the fleet for now, Siôn is rather enamoured
It is kind of charming in that it is a true farm vehicle: Not pretty, but seems mechanically sound. Also, that blue interior is neat.
We have matching mats now!!!
I have suddenly become interested in 106s since I found out they did an electric one. Although I think finding one will be quite hard.
Did not know that!
Nice one guys. I have forgotten how many times I have said in my life, "I have tissues". Those aren't dents, they are body enhancing features😬
French Spec Bodywork!!
Amazing candidate for Festival of the unexceptional
Nah, that's all about 50k trucks now. They seem to have forgotten the pot that they boiled in
As one of the last nice Peugeots this will probably go up in value. If you have space in that unit just keep it in decent condition and drive it around now and then. It will age like a fine wine.
Thank you!
Great video. Look forward to seeing how it turns out. Brave people at the car wash, taking that on for £22! Bargain.
It was well worth it for us
Hey Siôn if you don't want it, would you swap it for a 2003 Mercedes W203 C200 Kompressor automatic?
That's far too posh for Poverty Porn Boy
@@alsodriven Oh well, the offer is there.
It would be hard to pass it up for somebody who wanted (and needed) something affordable. Very economical. Probably indestructible if maintenance is observed and you cover the basics. Reasonably comfortable too. For such a barebones model (no temperature gauge would have been very common), it even has a rear wash & wipe.
What’s going on with the headliner? Looks as though it’s been poked in a couple of places, which is unfortunate, but with the state of the boot, it was probably used as a van occasionally for transporting big things.
Maybe check that sunroof for leaks?! 😬
Yeah the sunroof rubbers were full of debris and the headliner is on my list of things to sort

I had an n reg Citroen ax diesel I bought to use for work and I loved it would take you anywhere
Yeah it has that feeling. A french trip should be on the cards
I would take it on and restore it. We never got these for sale in Australia.
Maybe not restore but definitely give it a new lease of life
Give it a good clean inside out and find a new door, en then you have a nice winter beater (with some proper tyres)
That's the plan!
I'd have cleaned it, bit of dirt never hurt anyone 🙄👍🇮🇪
Rare car now, you never see them.
They are few and far between in that spec so definitely worth saving
I declare this project CSI Peugeot 🤣
Name accepted
Love this video
Thank you!!!!
get a dent man out to sort the dents, machine polish the car and leave the rest as a survivor, good valet and service. ideal fodder for rustival, doesn't need to be concours does it?
Definitely not, french spec FTW!!!
I'll never understand why people buy mint examples of cars then wreck them, dad was in the car trade, the used buyers were the worst wanting the world, then they came back a right state a few years later 🙄🙄🙄
It's really infuriating
People, look after your crap!!!
I love it!
It's fantastic!
I wouldn't have cleaned it and use it as barganing chip to lower the price! (ie He hasn't even cleaned the car!!)... Anyhow I guess I'd offer about half it's value to take it off his hands because in Sion's position I would have too many car projects and don't need another car...
We finally paid for it a week later. Didn't go as cheap as we thought but it's worth what we paid
buy it! 350-pounds
Got it very close to that
Was a week before we got the hold if the owner which was so weird considering we had taxed it and registered it
yeah buy it! make good content!
We do like an underdog
It’s a 1.5 😍😍
We have since learned lol
@@alsodrivenI wasn’t actually having a go I was just expecting a boring 1.1 tu I love a diesel pug 😍
@@pug2052 oh I just meant that it was dumped in our unit and told by the guy next door that it was ours and we knew absolutely nothing about it lol. It's been a steep learning curve 🤣
@@alsodriven that’s the best sort of car ! Are you liking the turboless diesel experience?
@@pug2052I actually am! It’s surprisingly much more lively than I was expecting
