It's a friggin' shame Ed O'Neill only ever got nominated for an Emmy. His work on Married With Children alone defined a generation of comedy and to top it off, he managed to make people forget Al Bundy when he played Jay on Modern Family for another 11 years. The man is a veteran who has longevity and range, he deserves all the accolades.
@@wendigo53 But shouldn't an Emmy award be about the actor, who plays the part the script outlines for him, and how well he performs!? From what I did see, just the way Ed O'Neill did posture, facial expression etc. was unbelievable!
totally agree, I grew up on that show in middle school and high school; today that show would never ever fly, except maybe a moth to a flame of cancellation ... maybe that's why the kids are filled with so much anxiety and lack of sense of humor nowadays
Don’t let anything distract you from the fact that in 1966, Al Bundy scored 4 touchdowns in a single game while playing for the Polk High Panthers in the city championship game.
I just posted the same thing, my wife's cousin is a professor at Youngstown State and he just resigned after they hired that right wing fascist as president of the university 👍
I remember him in a tv reboot of Dragnet, where he played Joe Friday-the Jack Webb role, and he fit in the role so well. It was either late 90s or early 2000s.
I’ll always think of Ed as the football coach from Little Giants, so many of my friends dads were like that and he made it okay to laugh at adults like that.
10th kingdom is one of my favorite shows. I rewatch it all the time. I NEVER recognized him. His voice must have been disguised. Gosh, I love that show.
Every time I see Ed O'Neill I only think of Al Bundy, but seen him in some other roles as well and I think he always deliver. He should really get an honorary Emmy or something.
wow, ed is 79 years old now. never actually heard him talk about his nfl stint. wikipedia has him trying out as a defensive lineman, no way you're getting that job (l.c. greewood and mean joe greene were rookies that year too) so that's probably why they had him at linebacker.
I heard Ed in an interview say that he got the "Married" part because all the other actors trying for the role were acting something like Ralph Kramden, but he played Al as if he had given up on life.
so many roles but ive really only ever watched him in one thing and anytime he's in a video someone, many ones mention 4tds...1 game ! I was smiling the whole time watching this.
I had the pleasure of working w Ed O'Neill on "PreFontaine" in Seattle. Ed played the coach, I was in the bleachers. We were joking around, & Ed came closer & closer til he could hear us. Then he started to snicker. He was the most memorable part of that movie for me.
This guy is *always* a great interview! If you haven't seen his archives of television interview, track it down - unbelievably (and gloves-off) funny :)
I just watched it on Amazon earlier this year. I'm not sure why I don't remember when it originally aired, but they clearly put a lot of money into it.
One thing, out of many, legendary things about his performance as Al were the facial expressions. He always had the right, and hilarious, reaction to something going on around him. my personal favorite is when Jefferson and Marcy sit on each side of him. They then proceed to say sexual things to each other, in spite of Al, and as they move through the dialogue, O'Neill gives us so much without opening his mouth or even moving his body.
Fun fact: Ed O’Neill auditioned for the role of Sam Malone on Cheers. I guess everything worked out either way, since both that show and MWC lasted 11 seasons. Hilariously enough, Ed referenced Ted twice - on MWC when he said to Gary Coleman, “The only black person they (Marcy & Jefferson) respect is Ted Danson," and a “Dirty Dozens” sketch on In Living Color where he told Jamie Foxx, “Your mama’s so ugly, Ted Danson wouldn’t date her.”
The 10th Kingdom is absolutly one of the best family mini series i have ever seen /// highly recomended /// it will keep you watching all the way till the end and want to watch it again /// I have seen it now 12+ Times and it still gets better and better /// Ed O'neill is the man!
I love Ed O'Neill in everything he does. Even when he was Hank the octopus in Finding Dory. But nothing will surpass when he scored 4 touchdowns in a single game.
If y’all enjoyed this conversation like I did, I recommend listening to Ed’s conversation with his TV son Jesse Tyler-Ferguson on Jesse’s podcast! “Dinner’s On Me”
Just had an odd thought... Have there been or are there any wheelchair-accessible TV Talk Show stage sets? I don't recall seeing one in my 50+ years of tv viewing. Regardless, Seth's set needs one (could be a TV first). Al- I mean - Ed looks like he might have used a ramp had one been available. FYI Ed was in the gritty film classic The French Connection... I think he plays a NYPD cop. Gotta see it if you haven't; Gene Hackman is great.
@isthison Nope. None of the tv sets are wheelchair accessible. I noticed when someone comes on w a problem walking the host usually helps them to the guest chair. Disabled people are the forgotten people in our country. I highly doubt that will ever change.

Married With Children defined how low humor could go in the 1990s.

From what I did see, just the way Ed O'Neill did posture, facial expression etc. was unbelievable!
In my mind, Jay is Al, but with more luck in life.
@@wendigo53 What was "above" it? I want to know if I was laughing at the correct type of comedy...
totally agree, I grew up on that show in middle school and high school; today that show would never ever fly, except maybe a moth to a flame of cancellation ... maybe that's why the kids are filled with so much anxiety and lack of sense of humor nowadays
Four touchdowns in a single game for Polk High. What a legend.
He still has the jacket...
And then, as the seemingly endless glory was suffocated under a red eclipse…..
Especially good for an outside linebacker.
I assume.
"Let's rock."
Lol. I have been watching Married With Children on youtube, short clips.
Watched Married ... with Children religiously as a kid. The man crushed it; in fact, all actors did.
It was ironic young Al Buddy was a football player, and Ed was cut from the Steelers. So he’s doing “act what you know”?
Ed is so very funny and comes across as very genuine and friendly.
I heard he can a bit of a doucher
Don’t let anything distract you from the fact that in 1966, Al Bundy scored 4 touchdowns in a single game while playing for the Polk High Panthers in the city championship game.
Omg Ed is such a riot!!! 🤣💕👍 I loved the recurring dream story 😆
Youngstown is so proud of Ed O'Neill for giving back his honorary doctorate to YSU, after they hired Bill Johnson. Ed has honor, integrity and love.
I just posted the same thing, my wife's cousin is a professor at Youngstown State and he just resigned after they hired that right wing fascist as president of the university 👍
Aa 😂😂 r. A ###pp
Bill Johnson's a tiny little idiot who looks up to asses like Dongle J Trongle. O'Neillis a Youngstown treasure.
Ed O'neill is a dedicated Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt what a legend
Ed has spoken his mind when criticized and never given apologies / excuses for his own opinions. A true talent and stand up guy
I remember him in a tv reboot of Dragnet, where he played Joe Friday-the Jack Webb role, and he fit in the role so well. It was either late 90s or early 2000s.
Seth is such a great interviewer. He hits it off with everyone. Such a pleasure to watch. Thanks Seth!
Simply a great actor!
Refreshing to see a humble man.
thanks Seth!!! Ed O'Neil is one of my fave actors. Loved the interview and the fact he refused to play for Philly.
I’ll always think of Ed as the football coach from Little Giants, so many of my friends dads were like that and he made it okay to laugh at adults like that.
Ed o Neill could tell stories for days. Great interview
Damn I didn't want that interview to end!! I owe Ed ONeill a drink, just cause he is so damn dope!!!
I LOVED the 10th Kingdom! I owned the VHS and then when the DVD came out; I bought it too!! If you haven't seen it; you should definitely watch it!
Excellent fantasy!
Ooh, it's free on RUclips. Thanks for that.
Love The 10th Kingdom too!
10th kingdom is one of my favorite shows. I rewatch it all the time. I NEVER recognized him. His voice must have been disguised.
Gosh, I love that show.
Thanks for your stance on YSU!
"Aw Peg, Do I have to?"
"Get up here Al"

"Did you miss me, Al?"
"With every bullet so far!"
Ed O'Neill is such a great Person " eine schrecklich nette Familie" is the only Sitcom i watched more then twice .
what a wonderful full interview
Thanks for a happy childhood, Al!
Every time I see Ed O'Neill I only think of Al Bundy, but seen him in some other roles as well and I think he always deliver. He should really get an honorary Emmy or something.
He was a Broadway actor before Married With Children. He's a great actor.
The 10th Kingdom was FANTASTIC. I've had a crush on Ed since Dutch 💝

I wish I could see his audition lol (I haven't tried to look it up yet)
after his uncle i believe
I only really know him from Married with Children, but turns out he's super interesting! Loved his story about the dream.
so many roles but ive really only ever watched him in one thing and anytime he's in a video someone, many ones mention 4tds...1 game ! I was smiling the whole time watching this.
Al Bundy has turned from curmudgeon to your favorite, loving grandfather type. 🥰
Seth's empathetic interviewing style just keeps growing, Akira style.
Peg: did you miss me dear, Al: with everybullet. LOL
It’s so wild how good Seth is at interviewing.
Xtra motivation when he gets to talk about the Steelers.
Ed stayed genuine all the way along. And the whole world 🌍 warmed to Him. 💎 God bless you Ed (aim for 100 now)
Absolute gem
oh no this is the thing that seth and other hosts say they hate when the guest says "oh this is bad" but we still love ed oneill!

Ed O’Neill will always be Al Bundy to me.
Fr. It's his legal name, and I refuse to think otherwise 😂😂
Narcissistic self-absorbed... why do randoms believe others care...
Four touchdowns in one game.
“Oooooooohhhhhhh! AL!”
“Shut up! Peg!”
I love the movie, Dutch. What a gem.
omg The 10th Kingdom?! I looooooved the miniseries!

I really only know him from "Married... with Children" but I absolutely revere him for that. 🙌
We love your show seth meyers
It's sort of makes me sad to see "Al Bundy" as an elderly man. I love him and I want him to live forever! Cheers, Ed!🥂
I love this guy.
I loved The 10th Kingdom as a kid. I had forgotten until now.
Please 🙏 Please 🙏 do a short of this dream 🙏
Touchdown at the end, Steeler from the Pit!
Ed O'Neill was awesome in 10th Kingdom.
The 10th Kingdom is fantastic!!! It’s my families favorite mini series/movie!!! Ed is great in it!
I actually loved the 10th Kingdom!! Peak early 2000s camp 😆
This is why I love podcast. This could have been so much more fun if it would have gone on for longer.
10th Kingdom is great!! Thanks for doing all that prosthetic work Ed, I appreciate it so much!!

Ed O'Neil as Idi Amin would be hilarious 😂 😃
Loved watching him with Terry Bradshaw on Modern Family.
I love(d) The 10th Kingdom! I even got the set on DVD.
He'll always be Lt. Amos to me. I still hum 'Booty Time' to myself now and then.
"Spam? I think you're a piece of spam."
9:44 I would’ve applauded. I loved The 10th Kingdom.
Ed All is in his late 70s?!?! Wow amazing

Makes sense, Al Bundy always performed to the Cheap Seats level of facial expressions, pause for the crowd, HE TOTALLY DID THEATER!
Ed O’Neil is a national treasure!

If y’all enjoyed this conversation like I did, I recommend listening to Ed’s conversation with his TV son Jesse Tyler-Ferguson on Jesse’s podcast! “Dinner’s On Me”
This man is talented. He's playing a different role in Clipped.
We loved the kingdom series.
Great actor since Miami vice..hes the goat playing al bundy
I get it's a short interview but kinda surprised he played down the 10th kingdom so much. 8.3 on imdb with 20,000 ratings! good cast too.
Dear Ed , as a hockey player well past his prime I still have dreams like that to . :/
I love this man.
I loved the 10th kingdom:)
That was fun :D

The character from Married with Children changed me - weird as it sounds - it made me a better person.
It is robust villains that make performance interesting.
Absolutely brilliant as Jay Pritchett in Modern Family.
He is exceptional on married with children
“Booty time, booty time, across the U.S.A. Booty time, booty time yeah yeah yeah…” - Ford Fairlane
We love ed o'neill
Ed is in the flow ...
