King! Looking for days after a good guide/video. Cleaned my pcv valve, iac, maf and throttle body, got the fuel down from 1.3 L/10km to 0.9. Now i can do the rest and change gaskets. I have a mondeo mk3 2.5 v6 its pretty much the same process
Great videos. Sadly my 99 has been sitting for years in storage. Finding your intake valve removal video has sparked my interest to get it on the road again. 80K miles but he been sitting inside for 7 years. Fuel stabilized ran through it for the first 2-3 years. Augh
I just bought my fourth svt contour. great cars and really simple to work on. i really dont understand why some people say this cars are hard to work on. they are really simple
@@thomasknight7734 not easy to find but in México city where I live.you can find them. They are not common but on internet You can, My first one bought it silver one in 2009 crashed it, second one a black one in 2013 sold it ,2015 My third one in Cherry color bought traded sold it And My fourth bought it in 2017 and i still have it a silver one.. so that is why I know to work no them, i know issues problems etc etc.. most difficult part to fix i would say is the alternator And starter. Cheap parts honestly. Things that tend yo go wrong un time is fuel pump, alternator, rear.sway bar links, water pump, feont lower control arms are weak in My opinión .. it depends on how well or how good they were mantained, they are reliable if kept in good shape, but believe me You are gonna have yo work on them... They are not corollas
Great video! I own a Ford Mondeo(III) 2.5 V6 ,European Ford.; the engine looks very much the same as this engine, is it? And the torque 88 and a half; is that pounds feet of torque? Because here in Europe we use Nm. The Mondeo is from 2002, by the way. Very nice and strong car, but i think i have a little like vacuum leak; you can hear a little sizzle while iddling. All vacuum hoses i have replaced. But since a few weeks the engine warning light on the dash stay lighted up while engine is running. P171 and P174 the OBD scanner shows.
Nice video. I would love to do this to my 98 CSVT (150k miles), but I'm afraid of everything I touch crumbling apart. My wiring harness insulation is quite fragile.
I used oven cleaner and a high pressure sprayer for the intake plenum on my 1996 taurus duratec which was last cleaned 10-15 years ago got it back to almost bare aluminum inside but this intake plenum looks much harder to get into.
I really appreciate this video! Thank you! I would really appreciate if you could answer a quick question... The wiring harness that goes over the lower intake manifold, sits towards the windshield side. Two wires come out of that harness one goes to the IAC but there is another plug. I got it all back together but I don't see anywhere that plug goes. The car actually runs so im wondering if it was used for a difference model car.
ForgottenSVT thanks for responding. It took me awhile but with the color code of the wire I traced it to the ECT sensor. Was pretty tricky to locate but I got it! Thanks again for your video! Really helped a lot!
Next to the crank pulley/harmonic balancer, on the timing cover. When looking at the crank pulley through the wheel well, you'll see it just off to the right of it. It'll have a 2 wire connection.
Great video! Thanks for posting it! How often do you clean the intake manifolds? I bought a '98 SE in Nov. '16, and cleaned the passages to the intake, which were caked solid with carbon. I hadn't removed the manifolds, which is my next project, along with replacing brittle vacuum lines. Also, any recommendation on fuel to reduce carbon?
I do mine about every 10K miles, which might be overkill, but i like to keep it clean. As for a better fuel, i only run Sunoco now, but it still carbons up. Between the PCV system and the EGR system, the car will always get carbon buildup.
I finally got around to cleaning the manifolds and replacing the EGR valve this weekend. I don’t think this part of the engine was ever touched since manufacture. The job took a lot more time for me to do, because of the amount of carbon in the intake, and removing my EGR valve was a challenge because I am a just a back-yard hobbyist mechanic. Your video helped a lot. Thanks again.
Hello man!! I want to install this engine to the mercury cougar. I have 2.5l lcda. I understand they have the same bottom and the difference is only in the head. I need manuals and all that. you can help? htnks in advance!
I have a 99 se with the 2.5 and I've had a problem with when I Go WOT it's got all the power but then it will suddenly just lose power is that a problem with the lower intake being clogged up good it's only got 145xxx miles on it
If you have power to redline for a while, then it feels like it falls flat on its face at 4k rpm after it's warmed up, it's a problem with your Intake Manifold Runner Control Module.
Kudo's to the maintenance look of this engine. I noticed your car is in a shop. Do you work as a mechanic or do you just have access to a shop floor? I'm asking because I have a 2000 SVT and I'm not looking forward to a full restoration.
Which screws? The ones attaching the intake manifold to the head? The ones attaching the upper intake to the lower intake? And any cleaner from Autozone will work.
I go over the torque spec in the video, it's 88.5 in/lb for both intake manifolds. As for the fuel pump, if you dont have any major modifications like boost or nitrous, there is no need for that big of a pump. I make well over stock HP and am still running the stock pump.
thanks for the info... im going to do the job next sunday and I will change fuel pump... malfunction... great video...I got an svt contour 98 ...its a project...need to rebuild completly but Im still working on my mystique for now...
i heard that the contour svt intake manifolds have bigger airways then my cougar.. also heard if i switch mine to an svt i could more power out of my car.. is this true?
Yes, that is true. The SVT Contour intake manifolds are extrude honed, so they have larger and smoother ports. The stock throttle body on the SVT Contour is 60mm.
ForgottenSVT that's awesome man! I'll probably be using them one day when I pick up a CSVT as a project car! I miss my Cougar but I always wanted a CSVT
I remember cleaning the butterflies and manifolds. mine was either staying shut and having no secondary or sticking open and barely idling. loved how quick these cars are.
They really arent that unreliable. They're older cars. If you keep on top of maint. then you'll be fine. Pretty much everything on mine has been replaced, and if i didnt race it, it'd probably be about bullet proof.
once I put the 3l after the old engine overheated it seemed to have no problems ever, so I assume that both the 2.5s had weren't very well looked after. I don't race but would like to, but don't really want to risk my daily driver.
Don't forget to check the bushings and rod for the IMRC. Luckily found the arm down by the starter
Your videos are awesome. Will be a big help for me in the near future, getting my first csvt today.

Get her going! If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to ask.
Huge thanks. This helped me a lot.
And boy, did she need it.
I just bought my fourth svt contour. great cars and really simple to work on. i really dont understand why some people say this cars are hard to work on. they are really simple
Carlos Barragan you've had 4 contour svt?
Stuff is just harder to access compared to other cars of the same era
How did you go through 4 of these cars?
Also how did you FIND 4 of these csrs

Great job, how many inch pounds will torque the screws
88 inch pounds
Nice video. I would love to do this to my 98 CSVT (150k miles), but I'm afraid of everything I touch crumbling apart. My wiring harness insulation is quite fragile.
There are people who make replacement harnesses for these cars.
I used oven cleaner and a high pressure sprayer for the intake plenum on my 1996 taurus duratec which was last cleaned 10-15 years ago got it back to almost bare aluminum inside but this intake plenum looks much harder to get into.
Mine always gets down to bare aluminum when i do it. But i do mine about every other year.

Does the plug look like the IAC plug or bigger and different? What color plug and how many wires go into that plug?

hey any chance you want to make a video on cleaning vavles...
Ooh what cleaning fluid did you use? Is there any alternative?
I use any kind of carb cleaner. Generally Sea Foam, B12 Chemtool, or something similar.
Where is the crank shaft position switch located? I’ve been working on my 2000 Ford contour svt and it hasn’t ran for over 2 years now...
Next to the crank pulley/harmonic balancer, on the timing cover. When looking at the crank pulley through the wheel well, you'll see it just off to the right of it. It'll have a 2 wire connection.
Awesome video man not many repair videos for these cars will be doing this to mine and is that the factory sensor on your cold air?
Thanks! Good luck and if you have any questions, feel free to ask. And yes, that is the factory sensor.

Honestly getting an ecu tune would probably do you more good
At least in my opinion

Thanks! I like to keep the engine bay as clean as possible! And yes, i work in a garage.
or what is there i can do to my cougar to get more power?
great job Mark! i see you have Blue injectors ..how often do you clean your uim???
Thanks! The injectors are 24# injectors. I usually do mine once every other year. Its probably overkill, but i like to keep it clean.
I want to do that to my mystique v6 99...but how many inch pounds will torque the screws?
and
another cleaner to buy from autozone?
Which screws? The ones attaching the intake manifold to the head? The ones attaching the upper intake to the lower intake? And any cleaner from Autozone will work.
exactly
both series of screws
the ones of the intake manifold to the head and the screws from the upper intake to the lower intake.
you know something about this fuel pump: Walbro 255LPH Fuel Pump Return-Style with Harness Kit...
I saw it in Nautilisperformance.com
I go over the torque spec in the video, it's 88.5 in/lb for both intake manifolds. As for the fuel pump, if you dont have any major modifications like boost or nitrous, there is no need for that big of a pump. I make well over stock HP and am still running the stock pump.

great video...I got an svt contour 98 ...its a project...need to rebuild completly but Im still working on my mystique for now...
Can you reuse the gaskets?
I dont recommend it.
How to replace the clutch?
What brand do you recomend me?
I run a factory LUK clutch in mine. Havent had any issues yet, even after 8 years.
How you remove the imrc and the second throttle? :D
imrc is held on with bolts on the front valve cover, and there is a clip, similar to your throttle cable, that hooks up to the lower intake manifold.
i heard that the contour svt intake manifolds have bigger airways then my cougar.. also heard if i switch mine to an svt i could more power out of my car.. is this true?

Yes, that is true. The SVT Contour intake manifolds are extrude honed, so they have larger and smoother ports. The stock throttle body on the SVT Contour is 60mm.
what torque is screw of thr manifold?
10Nm for the lower and the upper intake manifolds.
How tykes radtyr
Would have killed for this about 6-7 years ago!
Sorry i'm so late to the party lol. I'm planning to eventually make every single how to that is on the CEG boards.
ForgottenSVT that's awesome man! I'll probably be using them one day when I pick up a CSVT as a project car! I miss my Cougar but I always wanted a CSVT
Awesome! And yea, i like the SVTC better than the Cougar myself.
I remember cleaning the butterflies and manifolds. mine was either staying shut and having no secondary or sticking open and barely idling. loved how quick these cars are.
David Holland you sure it wasn't the IMRC? Those go faulty in these cars frequently
Would have thought you had a 3L
I do have a 3L. Its a hybrid, which is a 3L with 2.5 heads and intake manifolds.
ForgottenSVT I'm trying to look for a good enough excuse to put a 3L short block in mine lol
Power.... Thats all you need for an excuse...
ForgottenSVT money is a excuse not to do it too lol I'm still in highschool
ForgottenSVT is there anything required when swapping? Like do you need to swap computer or anything like that
boy I love my svt, but these cars are kinda unreliable and hard to work on. Labor of love I guess
They really arent that unreliable. They're older cars. If you keep on top of maint. then you'll be fine. Pretty much everything on mine has been replaced, and if i didnt race it, it'd probably be about bullet proof.

Yea, i totally understand not wanting to risk your daily.
Sorry pamp water
What?
Coke for the second half...
