I have a few questions based on this overview of your offer from Arizona Uni. 1) why did you apply for various universities from high and mid rankings? 2) applying for several universities is a good idea to expand one's options, but there come with a few challenges: how can someone afford paying application fees for 8-10 different schools - especially for international students which cost even more, and how can we keep our references (mostly previous professors) engaged to complete for us the recom. letter for all those applications?

I really wanted to get into a PhD program so I was advised by faculty at my undergrad to apply to 9-12 programs to maximize my chances of being admitted into at least one program. I was able to get all my applications paid for through fee waiver programs because I was a low income student, first generation students from a marginalized background. Idk if these fee waivers are available to interview students, but they are to US citizens. I started my application process early so I asked my letter writers if they had the capacity to submit 9-12 applications and if they did then I provide them with a list of the programs I was applying to with links and reasons as to why I was applying there. I also provided my statement of purpose, resume and transcripts. Finally, I held them accountable by periodically checking on their progress via emails.

Why did not your professor consider you for a T.A based funding? How is UoA fair with such fundings, are they paying decently?

Originally, I was offered a research assistantship but my supervisor lost the funding due to budget cuts. So, my admissions offer did not come with guaranteed funding. I would have had to apply to become a TA and I wasn’t willing to take that gamble. So I ended up declining the offer of admission.
