  • So I just bought a 1986 Kawasaki 454 LTD (EN450). Accordingly this bike was a Ninja 900 back in the day with just two of the cylinders cut off if it. So maybe how the Vulcan S is nowadays would be the closest version of it in the modern day. Has a 454cc parallel twin. The bike is in really rough shape due to carelessness of taking care of it by its previous owners. It's a project for sure and I knew that going into it that's why I bought it. These videos your seeing were shot a month ago as the bike was being built up. Right now the bike is about 90% the way there. But you'll just have to wait and see it when its finished. This is our journey and what myself and my friends ran into on the project. Hope you all enjoy. I really like this bike.

Subbing for this series! I bought a 90 as my first bike when I was 16, joined the air force at 18 and it sat at my parents house for two years. Just got it up here last week, put new fluids in her and she turned over in less then a second. Love these bikes. Planning on converting mine to a single seat and going for a semi bobber look. Good luck!

Diggin the videos! On my 87' 454 LTD I absolutely hate that flat ass factory shift peg because it dug into my fukn foot so I cut it off then drilled a hole into the remaining lever bar and bolted a skateboard wheel onto it, I obviously left the bearing in so it would spin and Holy Shit it's comfortable and shifts FN awesome! You can also bolt lock it if you want it stationary, both ways are great though. Stay Rockin & Keep Your Knees In The Breeze!

I bought the maroon version of this bike in 1986, paid $2,115.00 out the door.
The shift linkage was milled too thin, I had to get a heavier shift linkage, and the starter motor was too weak of a design for the bike and went out pretty quickly.
I was a young kit that didn't have over $200. for a new starter motor so I push started the bike for two years lol

Wow Billy that's incredible! I definitely agree on the shift linkage being too thin. My friends is bent in a banana shape but somehow still works, and mine has so much travel luckily my boots take up most of the slack so it shifts easier. Starter motor was the one of the first things I swapped for a new one, which happens to be in the next video. I did end up getting it going though just took a lot of time and patience. Now she runs great for being over 30 years old.

When mine bent I went to the dealer and they had already come out with a revision for the linkage, version 2 was much thicker and it never bent after that. When the bike was new it would top out at 130mph on flat land. Loved that bike, was one of my favorites I ever owned, glad to see you enjoying them and keeping them on the road. Tip, use gloves changing the light bulbs, I shattered one of the front blinker bulbs trying to get it out and cut my fingers down to the nerves. ;-) lol I was shocked after 2 years of push starting the bike (and I rode it everywhere all the time), and had zero wear on the belt. Be safe out there my friend :-)

I still have it, had it for about a year and a half now. Put about 3,000 miles on her. Runs pretty good considering how I found it.
