    Hi Tim. Sam here from Queenstown, Otago. (South Island of New Zealand. I'm formerly from Herefordshire, (home of the cows and the SAS), in England. I'm a beekeeping virgin. Never had a hive. Anything I know about bees is from books and the internet. I'd like to thank you for putting your wisdom out there. Having watched a lot of your videos, it's become pretty obvious to me when someone on RUclips knows what they're talking about and when they're talking out of their behind. You clearly know your stuff. And you have a nice manner about you as well. I thank you for bringing common sense and humour to the subject.

      Thanks for letting us know your in New Zealand. I'm a simple person and have never tried to put on the dog.
      Let me know any time you have a question. I do a pretty good job of answering all questions.
      Have a good one........tim

    I am planning to begin bee keeping next year. And in the mean time I'm researching as much information as possible. Your videos are great. Do you think it's possible for you to do a video that goes into detail about when to feed your new bees. For instance if I buy my hives in march. How long to feed them. And an overview of what a bee keepers first year would be like. I watched you're beginner video. And I still have many questions. Thank you!!

    • @WallsBeeMan
      @WallsBeeMan  7 лет назад

      I am being sincere. you will have even more questions when your start keeping bees. The long you have them, the more questions. That is for real. There is no definitive answer for most questions with beekeeping. Few facts and many many opinions

  • @txholeyrocks
    @txholeyrocks 7 лет назад +1

    Really nice video and educational. Lots of new bee keepers are going to learn from this. Mostly you taught them that if you have a bum queen, bee pro active and take care of it. Don't procrastinate thinking the problem will solve its self. Either you have a proper queen or you don't. Like you said, come winter time your bees die and you wonder why. You know Tim your experience of decades with this video tells a lot in what you did and why. I wish I could go out in my bee yard and not wear a full suit. Not going to happen though as I am in Texas and they're too aggressive of a stock.

    • @WallsBeeMan
      @WallsBeeMan  7 лет назад +1

      keep trying. use a magnifying glass and once you see them, them you will from then on. of course the eggs are in only a few frames, most of the frames do not have eggs

    My bees was very gentle last year but this spring one hive has turned mean . They sting if u get 20 feet near the box . However once the box is open they calm down . Any ideas or suggestions or explanations on this issue would be appreciated

    • @WallsBeeMan
      @WallsBeeMan  6 лет назад

      Your trying to trick me I see. If I get a bee meeting me at the gate, I light my smoker & first smoke the entire area around the bee yard. Bee careful to smoke the entrance and under the top and wait a minute before opening the hive. I also go ahead and smoke the nest 2 or 3 hive in advance. Hopefully you are being gentle with everything.

    Thanks Tim..great as always..Just a quick question..you moved that swarm hive quite far away from its normal spot..won't they bees fly back to the old spot? or is that the idea and the queen stays put with the new hive?

    • @WallsBeeMan
      @WallsBeeMan  7 лет назад +1

      The old flying bees will go back to the old spot but they will go into the nuc box next door just like it was their home.

  • @truthgha
    @truthgha 6 лет назад +1

    Did you kill the old queen before putting on the newsprint and new queen/brood box on top?

      When you introduce a new queen the ole queen must go to Queen Heaven.

  • @spppsydney
    @spppsydney 7 лет назад +1

    How many hives do you have in total ?

    • @WallsBeeMan
      @WallsBeeMan  7 лет назад +1

      Beekeepers do not have all their hives in one yard. Usually put about 25 hives to a yard then go about 2 miles to establish another yard. Hives die and beekeepers splits hives to put bees back into the dead hive so the bottom line, It is impossible to know how many you have.

    • @spppsydney
      @spppsydney 7 лет назад

    i'm thinking about taking up beekeeping whats the best hives to use for a beginner and how much would they cost. i'm trying to get ones like yours

    • @Seamonkey1981
      @Seamonkey1981 7 лет назад

      he uses traditional langstroth style beehives

    • @WallsBeeMan
      @WallsBeeMan  7 лет назад

      Generally, $150. That is only the beginning. Many things will cost more. Understand I am 74 ( old) and stuck in my ways. I would tell you to start the the standard Langstroth. The is one hive on the market that is a complete fraud. I'm not talking about the top bar hive. If someone is trying to produce and harvest honey, I can not understand why they would get another top bar hive after they have had one. Apparently there are beekeepers that like or love them, not me.

    why do bees get aggressive when the queen is laying poorly?

  • @AlwaysDoingSomething
    @AlwaysDoingSomething 7 лет назад +1

    I hate to leave this comment but I will. Please don't take offense. We know vibration is one of the alarm factors for bees. If you look at the number of times the bees experienced significant vibration during this process, it helps explain why they got so agitated. Just food for thought. When you need to clean bees off, shake them, don't pound something against the hive. No insults meant. Just trying to help in a little way.

    How’s it going mate my name is Arthur I was just wanted to ask how do you prevent bees from swarming

    • @WallsBeeMan
      @WallsBeeMan  7 лет назад

      Good question. Keep in mind this is natural to them. Humans have babies & bee multiply by swarming. I suppose the top two things you can do to help is, give them room so they have all they room they want and that will vary from queen to queen. If you have a super queen that is laying like the mother of all queen, you might need a hive 6 feet tall. The other thing is if you have an old queen, replace her. It is thought that hives with old queen are apt to swarm more than a hive with a new queen. That said, if I have a queen that is really doing a good job and they are not mean, I do not replace her.

  • @krookithaus

    hey walls can you tell me what kind of paint i can used to mark the queen, amazon want 60 dollar for a marking system, and all i want to do is to mark the queen next spring....thanks

    • @WallsBeeMan
      @WallsBeeMan  7 лет назад

      You don't want to hear this and you probably have already made up your mind. Not worth the trouble. The marking will not stay on them very long at all.

    why do you choose getting stung so much over protection

    • @jefftuttle7890

      Probably because a bee suit is hot. Tim has been working with bees for a long time and knows how to handle them.

    I do so enjoy your videos. Not sure if I missed it or not, but you did kill the "bad" queen to make the bottom hive queenless. Otherwise, you could end up with a battle and the wrong queen might win. So far, the worst stings I can remember was on the tip of my finger. I still cringe, years later.

    • @WallsBeeMan
      @WallsBeeMan  7 лет назад +1

      yes, the bad queen had to go. I just don't mention that in the vid

    Hey B-man, It seems to me that you are very aggressive with your bees, and yet you often comment on how aggressive the bees are! I wonder why you are always in such a hurry. Is it because of the camera? I of course defer to your expertise, but I am curious, why would those bees not be aggressive to you, since you are being so aggressive to them?

    • @WallsBeeMan
      @WallsBeeMan  7 лет назад +4

      if and when you have the years of experience I have, you will understand. I went into my first hive about 64 years ago.
