  • We had a couple days of cool weather so I decided to headed out to Vail Lake and ride for the first time. I have been hearing about this place for a long time but haven't had the chance to go out here. Francisco has ridden here a few times so he showed me around. There are 8-10 trails but the majority are XC trails. We hit the 4 best trails; Enduro, Matco, 4114, and Jumpline.
    Trails Ridden:
Tippy Top Enduro DH Trail, 0.25 mi, -17.6% average grade
Matco DH Trail, 1.29 mi, -8.4% average grade
4114 DH Trail, 0.4 mi, -16.7% average grade
Jumpline DH Trail, 0.4 mi, _3.7% average grade
I know this is a mountain biking channel but with all the media coverage with protesters and riots I just felt that I had to share my views on everything since I myself has experienced racism throughout my life. In no way will I ever fully understand how it is to be a black person in this country but I have been discriminated all my life. My parents came to America from Vietnam in 1975. My parents were sponsored by an amazing Mormon family in Provo Utah where I was born. There was a lot of hate against Vietnamese back then. There wasn't very many Vietnamese people in Utah and I was discriminated against all the time. I've been jumped by older kids at parks just because I was Vietnamese. These kids were taught to be racist from their parents and family. Most of these people didn't even understand that my father as on the same side as the Americans. My father was a high ranking officer with the South Vietnamese Army and fought along side the Americans against the North Vietnamese Communist.
I carried a lot of this anger with me throughout my childhood. It wasn't easy being a Vietnamese kid in the 80's. I moved to California in 1986 it was better here but there was still racism.I got into a lot of fights as a kid, been suspended many times and carried a lot anger for most of my childhood. Once my father died when I was 12 my life spiraled out of control. I was locked up at 15 years old and served a lot of time in the California Youth Authority. It was while I was locked up that I was able to reflect on my life. I understood where all my anger came from and how I ended up in there. I also understood that all those racist people in Utah were probably angry themselves because they most likely lost a family member to the Vietnam war. They didn't understand that my family loved America, they looked at us as the enemy. Once I was able to forgive all those people that yelled racial slurs at me or family for absolutely no reason, I was finally able to let go of my anger.
It is horrible whats going on in this country and I have experienced racism and police brutality but we cant hate all police officers. Most police officers are good people who have a hard job to protect our communities. If we hate ALL police officers because the actions of a few than we are no better than racist people who discriminate against people because of their race, religion, etc. We need to judge individual people from their character.

Don't judge anyone based on looks, get to know them and see if they are a person who shares similar views and values. Everyone is different and makes the world more interesting, make friends and have fun!

Great personal story Tommy (well not great, heartbreaking to hear a 7yr old being treated that way, no other parent stood up for you?) , my youngest of 5 is Chinese...and i can see it coming as she gets older, thankfully we (a white family) dont get funny looks anymore bc more and more people have adopted across racial lines...but i have seen the "sneeze/cough" reactions toward her! Makes papa bear rage!

Unfortunately no one stood up for me, it was just different back then. I am so fortunate that things are better now, especially in Southern California, my kids have friends of different races and its so cool to see. Our country has a long way to go but it's getting better. It's amazing that you adopted your daughter from China ❤️

Thanks for sharing your insightful outlook with what's going on in society right now. I believe if you have been discriminated against for any reason, you know somewhat, what it is like to be black. I'm supportive of those against racism/discrimination in all flavors. For someone to dislike or think they are better than another human being because of social status or the color of skin is just mind boggling to me(I'm a black male).I just want to bad apples so to speak to be held accountable for there actions. No matter what side your on be it the police force or protesters... BTW enjoyed the video a lot bro keep them coming & I'm glad the restaurant is back up and running.🖖🤙

Hell yah Tommy, good video man. I totally agree with you about what you were saying about supporting both the peaceful protesters AND the good police who keep us safe. It's the bad apples that make people hate them all and that's not right. I have a cousin who is in law enforcement so I support what he does, and I also support protesting injustices. I don't feel like I have to choose one side or the other in that regard. Also, I faced discrimination when I moved to the States when I was 8 from Costa Rica. I didn't speak great English and I was picked on and teased a lot. I made friends with the Mexicans and a Black kid. But eventually I became friends with everyone. That's my nature and my culture, to try and get along with everyone and be sensitive to people's differences. My daughter will grow up with those values. Vail Lake looks sick. I want to go check that out now. I like the jump lines, they look fun!

I’m mixed Chinese Vietnamese and white. My family is diverse and all get along great. But Agree 100% there are still some issues going on out there. it’s not just with blacks, I’ve seen mistreatment of Asian and Hispanics. To be fair I’ve seen my white friends who grew up poor or were different get messed with too. Not just by bad apple cops but just by other people in general. It’s not just whites doing the mistreating either. My worst bully growing up was a black dude, an American. He bullied me and my Nigerian friend endlessly.
