Frusciante's creation . Same rock as in Especially in Michigan. Chad and John being more rockers than the other guys loved this crossover stuff more than the funky itself. AK and Flea were more funkateers but at the end started to play more rock as well. Indeed the punk rock component in rhcp is noticeable since the beginnings
half the album was originally gonna sound like this. john originally intended to do both melodic “english-sounding” songs and punk rock style songs, but rick rubin wanted them to only do the melodic style songs.
@@damesoumbi It wasn't that Rick wanted that, rather he thought that the melodic stuff was more fresh and exciting, so the band decided to focus more on that. Still wish this was on the album

@@guciowitomski3825 I recall reading that BTW was supposed to be a pure punk rock album - like all songs tracking at under 2-3min and all that classic punk music stuff. SO glad Rick Rubin was able to talk them out of that because it would not have been able to compete with BTW as it was released. Which many, many years ago when I was still a newer RHCP fan, BTW was my absolute favorite by them. Now I've listened to literally just about everything they've ever recorded and now I'm a fanboy of their 80s-1991 work most of all, although I still listen to tracks on BTW once in awhile.
Wrong, it was Flea who wanted By The Way to be more like this. "Unfortunately" non of the songs on the album ended up being heavyer like this. John got his way with the softer and more.. mellow sounding songs. Flea had a hard time being in the band at that time. Felt like his voice wasn't being heard.
Nouser name_1337 not really. the heavier sound was also JF's idea but then he changed his mind. we don't know if flea actually wanted the album to be specifically like this, just that he was unhappy about JF dictating the songwriting later on.
You're both right and wrong, the band wanted a heavier sound, but the main problem was Rick Rubin, who told them to go in a more pop direction in order to sell more
I imagined an album with this song and sound plus some outsiders: by the way, leverage of space, throw away your TV, Eskimo, body of water, rivers of avalon, fortune Faded, save the population, time, this is the place and another only with pop songs like: I could die for you, dosed, Venice queen, warm tape, cabron, someone, don't forget me etc
These more punk oriented tracks that didn’t make it into by the way seem like a bit like the kind of record that UL and ROTDC ended up partially being, with stuff like these are the ways and nerve flip.
By The Way was supposed to have been inspired by The Damned and Discharge before Rick Rubin steered them toward a more 60's pop direction. This track must be the only thing that remained from that original vision.
I will never forgive them for disregarding flea’s ideas for the album and therefore not releasing ANY of the B-sides of how Flea wanted to album to sound smh
If they had included some of these outtakes the album may have turned out much... better? I didn't really connect with BTW after their last few heavier albums. But this is definitely one of my Chili Pepper favs.
I like warm tape actually. They were originally going to make an album that was more fast paced and heavier dunno why it never worked out. This song is great.
