    Love these videos. I am kinda lost learning my drum machine (TR-8) and these videos help a lot. I like that it is general and I can apply it to my machine. How can I be creative on a drum machine? I want to "jam" but can't really figure it out.

    • @CaptainPikant

      Hey Matt, we're so glad our videos are helpful to you :) There will be Drum Machine 101 videos on jamming and improvising, but that's far in the future as there are still a lot of basics to cover first. My advice for now would be this: Making music is like any other language - you have to learn to speak it first. Listen to your favourite songs and try to hear what's going on in the drum track. In the beginning, imitating other artists helps you build a vocabulary. For me personally, transcribing patterns was the most helpful. It helps you to see how different instruments interact with each other. It was a slow and painful process at first, but over a few weeks I noticed that my mind became used to thinking in the 16-step grid and it became easier for me to place my ideas onto the sequencer without so much trial and error. If you're interested take a look at our Patreon, I already put a few transcriptions up there.

      @@CaptainPikant Thank you so much for the reply and advice. Initially I didn't think the drum transcription would be all that informative but your the third person that said it was game-changing. I can't wait for what you have in store for us, all the content has been helpful.

      I’ve had my Maschine Plus since it came out and before that I had a Novation Circuit, although I picked up on the Maschine a lot quicker I am still figuring out how to get to a confident place with it, I just found this channel and I really do love these videos, they are helping so much and very inspiring, and especially since I have been leaning towards giving it all up very very recently

    These videos are immensely helpful, as my beats sometimes feel lackluster. It's definitely one of the more difficult aspects of music production, so I really appreciate the guidance on offer here. I will definitely be watching every episode!

    From one musical rabbit to another, great job on your videos.
    One trick I like is using an LFO to modulate say a snare’s velocity or a high hat’s decay. 🐇

    • @CaptainPikant
      @CaptainPikant  3 года назад +4

      You honor us with your comment! Wes Anderson has been a huge influence on both of us here at Beatbunny Studio. As for the German accent... It would have been a minor stroke of genius to uphold an accent until the "Accents" episode of DM101 - and in general to make everything more Wes Anderson - but I fear there is a much simpler explanation for why we both have these flawless authentic German accents that we can't seem to get rid of.

      @@CaptainPikant Thanks. I should 've been more clear. I mean accents on the bass drum in a four on the floor pattern and its variations. On beats 2 and 4 instead of 1 and 3. I ask that because in the most simple beats, that's where the snare is more likely to be. And if we go back to jazz, people count on twos and fours. So I wondered, wouldn't that make more sense than going "default" and accenting the odd beats?

    • @CaptainPikant
      @CaptainPikant  Год назад +1

      If you have a rhythm in 4/4 time signature (which is the case nearly all the time in pop music and also this tutorial) then one bar consists of 4 beats - that's when you count 1... 2... 3... 4... 1... 2... 3... 4... and so on. These beats are quarter notes and thus correspond to steps 1, 5, 9 and 13 on the grid.
