I enjoy watching your reviews even tho I'm not a particular fan of neither Suunto nor Polar (I love my polar H10 tho). This just shows me why I'm glued to my Fenix 6X sapphire, it can do everything these 2 can do, usually better. Like for example navigation on the fenix is much better and compatibility with external sensors is limitless.
Pricing is the key probably. Here in my country the standard Fenix 6 (not pro, not premium) costs the same than the Polar Grit X Pro. That being said, for the same price you have the same level of navigation (as far as I know regular Fenix 6 doesn't have full mapping), sort of same features and the Grit X Pro comes with a sapphire screen compared to the gorilla glass on the regular Fenix 6. If we match the sapphire on the Fenix 6, it comes with more features, but costs hundreds of dollars more too.
Ok, so in Greece people make tattoos with quotes written in English and now i see someone who has a tattoo written in Greek!!! Job well done my friend!!! Nice video btw!!!
I might sound a little off the topic but how do those compare with galaxy watch 6 classic for instance? Are they really that much better in tracking activities etc?
I like that polar grit x pro and I almost bought it. Still prefer my tactix delta solar right now. Garmin may be more expensive but it’s worth it. I’d like to see the next grit x have a full sized screen.
It seems these watches that focus on fitness (like Polar) just don’t know a thing about navigation. Showing your last GPS coordinate is great, but do they allow you to pick different coordinate systems such as UTM? Can you set magnetic declination? From what I can tell, we just have to pick which is more important to us: fitness or navigation. I haven’t seen anything to does both well.
I just cannot sleep with thick large watches on my wrist . I sold my Garmin Fenix 6 , Suunto 9 Baro , Polar Grit X and Im super happy sleeping with Suunto 9 Peak on my wrist . Perfect comfort .
tbh, i believe that, in fact, there is a proper temperature sensor onboard the Grit X, you just can't display the temperature on the watch display.... but it is shown on Flow. and i think there is a way to zoom +/- the breadcrumb gpx track... you have to push the middle-right button on navigation screen to do so
You can zoom yes... But you cannot pan which I think is actually more important than zooming. I don't have any graphs for temperature in my Polar Flow? 🤷♂️ Thanks for watching!
yesss, panning feature would be nice! As the temperature ....it is only visible on Polar Flow website, on laptop, not in the app. It is OFF by default, but you can turn the temperature graph on in the graph settings menu (little cog icon on right) I am quite sure these are values from the onboard sensor
@@viacheslavkrasin3119 the only one I can think of is putting the watch in the water to measure the temperature before OWS... you can do it with Garmin or Suunto, but not with Polar... maybe not a dealbreaker, but for some folks may make a difference
In an age of smart watches with gps I cant believe there isn't more customisation out there in terms of external apps. Trying to find an outdoor watch that has everything i want is next to impossible but that polar comes close. For me the biggest things are the outdoorsey orientering stuff for hiking (altitude, weather, wind, compass etc) but i also like the recommended workouts on the polar too, that would be handy while travelling. All that said I live the the way that suunto looks and the better gps function is also great... if only suunto had customisation so i could install a weather widget
Hi Dave. Always a pleasure watching you and your videos... To be fair in comparison you have to go deep into the watch itself. Maybe that is why DC Raymaker does not make comparison videos at least to my knowledge. Suunto 9 baro Has a weather screen... Very useful... Available through suunto plus options. Just a though for your future videos. Cheers from México.
Thanks for the feedback. I go much deeper in the dedicated videos. These comparison videos would get way too long if I covered everything! Thanks for watching!
Hey Dave, new watcher here. From my day of watching - I like your videos, they’re very hands-on and in-depth which is great for me. Hoping you can help me out here: I am looking for a new smart watch, I think I’ve outgrown the apple ecosystem as the charging every day is not what I’m looking for. I’m no runner by any means, but I do like hunting and hiking so I am active in the outdoors. I also do some road biking in the summer time. I am also fairly hard on my tech gear, as I work outside and in all weather conditions. So the sapphire screen and a good build quality is a must. I know you are always saying that garmin is the king in gpsmap area, but the lack of touchscreen in their 6 series is a big turnoff for me. I want a watch that watches my heart rate, tries to track sleep (I know they’re all not great), and can make it a full week at work, so no GPS needed. But, I do want some GPS functionality, if possible. That being said, would you choose the Grit X Pro over something else? I’m at a hard max of $500. The maps is a somewhat of big deal, but for everyday use, I am fine bringing my garmin 66 handheld to get me in and out of the woods. Hope you have some insight for me. Thank you!
Glad you enjoy the videos! Personally I prefer the Fenix 6 over the GRit X Pro but that's only because I don't find the touch screen terribly useful. Buttons just work and are typically faster in sports situations along with having wet/dirty hands. The Fenix 6 Sapphire is quite durable. That said, if you're set on a touch enabled screen and want sapphire the Grit X Pro is an excellent watch and I have no complaints about using it. Sadly though the battery has a hard time lasting a full week with regularly recorded fitness activities.
I’m really loving my polar grid x pro but I wish it had a barometer pressure widget! And save locations …. Hope polar can add these features in an update
Yeah, that was strange to leave out considering that they did add the altimeter graph on the outdoor widget. Seems like it would be an easy addition in firmware.
this is the first time I've noticed background music during the video. IMO, I don't think you need it for the whole video. Anyway I hope you and your family are getting some sleep!!!! Keep up the great work!
Thank you for the great review, I’ve the sunnto 9P, the design & finish is great I like the application but the Spo2 is not accurate the connectivity with external HR or bike POD / SuuntoPlus is pain always need to check b4 any activity the menu font is small I wish they can fix those in near update.
Thanks for an interesting comparison, and for the two individual reviews! Being Finnish, Im certainly very biased towards both brands, and I´m truly happy that they manage to stay among the top brands. Being a Polar user since 2016 (V800, now Vantage V), I´m likely to stay with Polar. I must, however say that the Suunto Peak has a very classy design. Also the Navigation seems just a tad better - but not enough. Really hoping for bigger screen/smaller bezels, as well as TBT navigation, even without a map...although that would be a dream. Best would be an elongated squareish design, somewhat bigger than V800 - that would really set it apart from all the others. I´m actually considering getting the VV2 Switch, since it in essence offers the same ss the GXPro in a sleeker design...but maybe waiting to see if they present it in a Titanium/Sapphire version.
It irritates me that they put a big black border on the glass wasting all that real estate instead of making the usable screen as big as possible. I'm long-sighted, however, bigger digits means I can read the screen without glasses. That black border on the glass just makes it look really cheap.
I'm sure the thick border trend will end eventually. I have a feeling a lot of these manufacturers use the same LCD panel vendors so they end up with similar bezels. That's just speculation but there's got to be a reason!
@@ChaseTheSummitYeah, that makes sense, so they just mask of part of the screen to up-sell the more expensive models. But they should only separate them by functionality and use the extra screen on the cheaper models for bigger digits. I've noticed that all these sports watch brands don't think about long-sighted runners who don't want to run with glasses cos we don't need them to see where we are going but we do need them for viewing the watch. It would be a winner i think.
Searching for a new watch for my first 100 mile race I would go for the Suunto 9 Peak after watching your video. It might also better fit to my small female wrist. I‘ve had four Polar watches the last 20 years, including the Polar V800 which was a really good one until the battery capacity dropped at a moment‘s notice. Running not more than 30 miles the last 2 years I was fine with my apple watch, but now I need are more efficient device. Thanks for the video :-)
Just hope and pray it works as well as it's supposed to, because if you need their support you're in trouble! They are the absolute worst with complete disregard for their customer. I'm still on Suunto, but once mine dies, I'm not going back and more than likely switching over to Polar.
I don't actually have a 9 Baro Titanium on hand. But I do have a regular 9 Baro. Pretty sure they're the same thing except for the build materials? Thanks for watching!
Hi Dave, question: why do all watches have atmospheric temperature sensor, which is highly impacted by your own body temperature, and do not have much more meaningful body temperature monitoring which is so value adding (and maybe easier to monitor)?
I always found that strange as well. But there is a use for it if you clip the watch to your pack or away from your body. Maybe thats why they continue to leave the sensor?
@@ChaseTheSummit True and I have done that a couple of times. However, I feel that if I had to select between having my own temp and the atmospheric, I would prefer the former...Happy New Year!
The Polar GritX Pro Titan is a value when compared to the premium Ti material Suunto,COROS and Garmin’sOne thing about Polar is their heart rate monitoring data has a better analysis with their Flow APP, especially with Trimp and Recovery data. With that said I own Polar and have the Vantage M1 and V2. I do think the GritX Pro Titan is more premium but I think of HRM watches as tech and not really as jewelry. Why spend more for Ti? I will be replacing my watch with new tech in a few years unlike my jewelry watches, that I seldom wear anymore.
For sure, compared to other TI watches it's certainly the better value but it's still a little steep when comparing smartwatch features and navigation. I do like their wellness features though!
I agree the metal bezel plays a role in protection but I don't think the black area around the actual display has any functional purpose. That's where I wish they would increase the size of the display, but leave the metal bezel.
@@ChaseTheSummit I went with Polar grit x pro Hope it will not disappoint me mainly when it comes to the heart rate accuracy. I was really suffering from my fitbit sense. Thanks again.
do these watches bounce in a noticeable way while running? I have a Vantage M2 and most of the time I don't really even notice it even while riding my MTB, but that watch is like 45g with strap included. I like the Grit X Pro and might consider it as an update in a year or two, but the weight worries me a bit as I run and do MTB quite often and that bouncing makes some heavy watches noticeable all the time and also may cause inaccuracies on the readings.
Kind of depends on your wrist and how tight you strap them down. For me, I get minimal bounce with both Grit X Pro and Suunto 9 Peak. With activities like MTB it's a lot harder because you've got so much vibration to deal with. In that case I might suggest grabbing a chest or arm HR sensor so your data isn't wonky. Thanks for watching!
For me its polar grit x pro. I like polar sleep and activity tracking and gps is quite accurate with sensor. Great content as usual, thx! Greetings from Finland!
I own the original grit X heart rate accuracy has been a problem, started out great but after a couple of weeks it has been so inconsistent which throws all analysis out really frustrating because I'm enjoying the Polar eco. The problem these watches have is the Fenix 6, been out an age has all and more of both watches and now discounted. Its a shame!
I love polar flow system ! That's I'd why I have stuck with Polar sure V800. OK Garmin battery life can be unbeatable and maos but Garmin Body battery doesn't give enough data unlike the easy Polar system. So stuck with 7 day battery and only bread crumbs on GrutX 😁
I try to decide what watch to buy and in more I am watching then more I am confusing. I found very good price on garmin vivoactive 4 (£175 , 235$) but still dont know if Polar is not better for me. I looking somethink for MTB and swimming and really good sleep tracker oh and good battery life. I used apple watch 3 so fare so I am very new in this world.
To be honest all of the modern sports watches are really good... which is why the decision is so hard. I'd say establish a budget, and the buy whichever seems to have the features you need. I hope that helps.
I have now a polar vantage m and i use it for freestyle cycle and bodypump. I am thinking to change to polar grit x pro titan but the price keeps me thinking of it
9:20 "This watch (Suunto 9) does NOT have internal music storage" Ugh. Welp, it's back to more of your videos to find something else! And I was really leaning towards Suunto as a replacement for my FR945 that broke. 🙄 Just like the large bezels, how you say it's past time we got watches with THIN edges/bezels, I can't believe any brand is making a sports watch that is well over $500 and has no internal music storage. That's quite ridiculous. There are many times when I want to run and not bring my phone. Especially doing speedwork at the track. It's as if brands think the ability to play music via Bluetooth is a premium feature. Garmin still had some watches with "Music" in their name, indicating they're 'special' and can play music. 🙄
i notice that my suunto 9 peak seems to record a bit (sometimes) longer than my Suunto Ambit3 peak. My ambit3 peak was pretty consistent for the past 5 yrs esp when i run the same route, around +/- 10meters. however my suunto 9 peak gets over 100m. any idea how i can correct or recalibrate this?? thanks
@@ChaseTheSummit uhm no. in terms of altitude, suunto is pretty consistent with it. its more of the gps accuracy. we had a run with my mates, all of them got 10.5 or 11 but i got 12km. and i even started my watch late.
Yeah that was an interesting thing to leave out considering it's got that full "outdoor stats" page now. It would have been nice to see a Baro there and maybe even a storm alarm.
Both have a training load and recovery tool. The Polar displays it on the watch while Suunto has it in the app. The Running Power is a great feature though!
I've had Garmins (and an Apple Watch) until I landed on Suunto after a lot of research. Ive had a couple of them and even though the product is good when it works, I will never EVER buy another one... Their customer support has proven to be one of the worst. So bad that it overshadows the quality of their product 1000-fold. For quick reference, I bought one for my wife as a gift. The bezel fell off within 2 months. Suunto replaced it with the same one and the bezel fell off again within a couple of weeks...!! I complained so much and asked for a slightly different model (same cost). They relented. Battery now dies within a few hours and even though we've had it less than 2 years, they are considering the warranty to be from the date of original purchase, which makes this one 3 weeks out of warranty. Needless to say, I will tell everyone about it. I'm now considering the Polar Grit X Pro as my next watch.
For me Polar is failing strong. Same hardware as the V1 from 2018. Minor Software upgrades, still a slow and bugy interface and GUI. They simply don’t have the R&D to compete. If they don’t progress in the next few years…
I've had both and love both. The reason I dropped Suunto is because they got rid of Movescount. No self-respecting athlete does in depth data analysis on their mobile. This is really too bad because Movescount was awesome. Also, I believe Suunto is actually made in Finland and Polar is made in China.
can not believe 600 dollar running watch can not storage music on it. i stop watching the video as soon as you mentioned it. and killed any interest on buying any of those watch.
@@ChaseTheSummit not only Garmin pretty much any smart watch out there can storage music to be play at your convenience, i think they are the only ones that don't do music and wonder why 🤔 in my opinion Garmin is the king on this sector of fitness would like to see them to improve the display quality to amole and size at least 1.4 in

imo thick bezel is very good for screen protection. For us military guys, bumping into shit, walls and at your gun, saves screen 99% of the time
I agree the metal bezel plays a role in protection but I don't think the black area around the actual display has any functional purpose. That's where I wish they would increase the size of the display, but leave the metal bezel.
Amazing and comprehensive comparison, but it doesn't help me yet. I'm quite confused on which one I have to buy.
Thanks! Sorry it didn't help!
@@ChaseTheSummit I went with Polar grit x pro
Hope it will not disappoint me mainly when it comes to the heart rate accuracy.
Great review, thanks. Does Polar have Storm alarm?
Unfortunately no storm alert on Grit X
For me its polar grit x pro. I like polar sleep and activity tracking and gps is quite accurate with sensor. Great content as usual, thx!
Greetings from Finland!
Thanks for sharing!
Polar Grit X Pro Titanium 👍 I believe it's 53 grams. Very light.
Sorry to hear that. I get either REALLY good accuracy, or I get little spikes/dips that can throw off the HR.
Oh I so don’t miss a touch screen. I am enjoying Fenix 6X Pro not having touch screen, a specially when outside ok a rain or in a shower.
For sure, buttons are great in sports applications. Touch screen can be nice in some situations like scrolling through text. Thanks for watching!
A good idea is to include compatibility for Android vs IOS and other main OS phones
Both are compatible with Android / IOS.
I have now a polar vantage m and i use it for freestyle cycle and bodypump. I am thinking to change to polar grit x pro titan but the price keeps me thinking of it
It's not a cheap watch!
@@ChaseTheSummit thats the reason why i didn't bought it yet
9:20 "This watch (Suunto 9) does NOT have internal music storage"
Ugh. Welp, it's back to more of your videos to find something else! And I was really leaning towards Suunto as a replacement for my FR945 that broke. 🙄
Just like the large bezels, how you say it's past time we got watches with THIN edges/bezels, I can't believe any brand is making a sports watch that is well over $500 and has no internal music storage.
My ambit3 peak was pretty consistent for the past 5 yrs esp when i run the same route, around +/- 10meters. however my suunto 9 peak gets over 100m. any idea how i can correct or recalibrate this?? thanks
in terms of the altimeter?
@@ChaseTheSummit uhm no. in terms of altitude, suunto is pretty consistent with it. its more of the gps accuracy. we had a run with my mates, all of them got 10.5 or 11 but i got 12km. and i even started my watch late.
Awesome video! Any update on the Whoop 4.0 0:)
Still waiting for mine in the mail!
@@ChaseTheSummit mine went from 6-8 weeks to 7-9, to 10-12 after two months to 7-9 and now to 6-8 again 🤣
Hum Fenix 6 pro !
Yep, I've got a video comparing the S9P to the Fenix!
Great video Dave, thanks 👍
Thanks 👍
Polar for me. (Get-Zone-Fit). Thank you.
Nice!
What about the polar gritx pro titanium vs Fenix 6 Sapphire titanium? What to get? Ah decisions decisions 😂
If money is a concern the Grit X Pro, if not the Sapphire Fenix 6 is better in almost every imaginable way.
It’s a shame that the grid x pro has no barometer pressure display
Yeah that was an interesting thing to leave out considering it's got that full "outdoor stats" page now. It would have been nice to see a Baro there and maybe even a storm alarm.
Polar can do the load pro, recovery and power out of the wrist which values extra 200$
Both have a training load and recovery tool. The Polar displays it on the watch while Suunto has it in the app. The Running Power is a great feature though!
I preffer polar 😋
It's a good one!
Yikes! That's unfortunate.Which model had the bezel fall off?
@@ChaseTheSummit the Fitness 3… smallest one to fit my wife’s wrist. Crazy, right??
For me Polar is failing strong. Same hardware as the V1 from 2018. Minor Software upgrades, still a slow and bugy interface and GUI. They simply don’t have the R&D to compete. If they don’t progress in the next few years…
I like the Grit X Pro but I would have liked to see a bigger leap in innovation. Thanks for watching.
Yep, unfortunately only Garmin has figured out the music thing. COROS added it to the Vertix 2 but it's not quite there and only uses raw MP3 files.
@@ChaseTheSummit not only Garmin pretty much any smart watch out there can storage music to be play at your convenience, i think they are the only ones that don't do music and wonder why 🤔
in my opinion Garmin is the king on this sector of fitness would like to see them to improve the display quality to amole and size at least 1.4 in
I bet a dime suunto and Polar is the same company
They're both in Finland but I think that's all they have in common!
Difficult watch to break or damage! Hold my beer!
lol, nothing is "break proof"!
Those bezels though :/
Yep... Maybe in 2022? lol
First of all what song is this haha
