I have one of these stoves and managed to boil enough water for a flask of tea (3 big mugs) with half a newspaper that I found on the train, and it was raining. I cooked breakfast with the other half of the paper. They're good stoves
I ordered this stove through eBay, it was delivered within 24 hours. I tested it straight away. It's a great little stove. Burns very cleanly & very efficiently. Looking forward to using it on my next wild camping weekend. Brilliant bit of kit. Bo).
A superb demonstration of the effectiveness and efficiency of this stove when loaded and lit correctly. I use cat litter pellets as fuel when using the stove at home but it works well when fuelled with sticks, twigs, cones etc collected from the lical environment with burn times dependent on fuel density, conditions etc. A fantastic lightweight stove. Thank you for sharing. Paul :)
I love mine. Tried the cat litter pellets and also one of those bags of split wood tinder from a garage forecourt. Great for sitting around when doing winter overnight fishing when a flame and a hot drink is in constant demand.
The Beauty of these kind of Stoves is you don't need to bring your own fuel, you just pick it of the ground just before you start to cook... P.S. I have owned about 8 of these kind of Stoves... I am using at this time the Toaks small titanium wood burning stove and love it...
Wow, that is an incredibly long burn time! I like both the stove and that MSR Stowaway pot you used. The stove fits perfectly inside the 775 ml sized pot perfectly! I have both as well. They make the perfect combo!
I have a different wood burning stove that works off the same principal as the Wild Wood-gas one does. I also like to use one of the small alcohol burners like the Trangia in it when I don't want to burn wood or just have a quick fire to heat up some water. My wood burner acts as the windscreen and support for the alcohol burner/stove That's the beauty of backpacking stoves like these , they can be a double duty stove pick up wood as you walk along or just get lazy and use the little alcohol burner in it in place of any wood.
I didn't know how to use this stove correctly when I first got it. Now I load it up and burn from the top down. I use a little alcohol, or hand sanitizer to get it going along with some cotton and vaseline
Tried to build my own gasification stove and although it is completely useable, it will not burn pellets very well. Time to order a wild woodgas! Thanks for the video!
Great to hear of your success... the gasification is so effective with a nice high density uniform fuel. Our 20kg bag has lasted a couple fo summers. Sometimes I also lodge ours in the Henry stove in the caravan for an hour or so's effortless gentle heat.
Thanks for your comment... Woodgas stoves burning wood pellets are difficult to believe - but we can assure you this is genuine. The changes in light levels are just the automatic exposure trying to find the best level for ambient light versus bright flames. This was pieces together from clips of a single burn, with no break, topping up or anything else. This is very repeatable by anyone - there's no rigging :). Try it!
cat pellets give off a fair amount of steam. only tried them in a bean can. fire still surprises me how hard they are to get going. small note - weird camera night and day effects. do they make a lid so hot air can be directed sideways ?
All the gases that deposit soot are burned by the prewarmed secondary air coming in at the top of the burn chamber (producing the yellow jets of flame). There is no soot or smoke emitted.
Hi, just bought my stove and trying to top light with cotton wool and Vaseline from a spark, not having much luck, might need to resort to firefighter or has bro paper, any other ideas for top lighting thanks Paul
what a brilliant , helpful video ! I have the exact stove , just got to find out where to get those sorta cat pellets ... thanks very much for sharing , appreciated
Great video, gives a lot of food for thought & is an excellent idea to carry a bag or two incase the wood in the local area is saturated (ours has been for quite a few months now...only just beginning to dry out!) - I got mine a month or so back, but the seller mislabelled it as a MkII when it was a MkI with the fiddly pot stand support - I'm going to have to order a replacement pot stand from Wild Stoves methinks, along with a canvas bag perhaps. I do love it though, extremely efficient, and a well thought out design! Thanks for sharing :-) ATB, ~WWC~
Thanks Wild Stoves, it was a second hand buy on Fleabay and I don't think they knew which model it was lol...so the mk2 is the model with the 3 foldable stands as opposed to the fiddly stand you have to assemble? Think I'll be needing to order an updated potstand from yourselves (will be given a review of course!) - question though, if I order a potstand, can I order a bag for the stove too? The seller sent it without that and I'm having to use a drybag that's far too big!! Many thanks, ~WWC~
hi , i have a question, i burned pellets of sawdist ,buy i couldnt fire dry manure pellets ,there iş just fire in the middle ,very short fire. Fırat start in everywhere but after 1 min just little blue fire in the middle??????????????????? thanks
I have just bought a stove like it and was wondering how old or how many fires you had in yours as it looks well used. Just wondering how long they last.
I've been using some of these for many years, and I've yet to wreck one or have one wear out or burn through. All our products come with a guarantee anyway.
I ought to add that my stove is not this one, it is basically two paint tins. I am thinking of replacing it, but with something that is much more durable. Extensive use will make a regular tin paper-thin. Stainless steel might be better. Cat-litter pellets do fall through the holes all too easily. The brand I buy do. However, the compressed nature of those pellets does mean they retain their shape in a burnt state. What wood types do they use for wood pellet heating fuel. I have never found any. I have some wood waste from a sawmill blagged for free and I always look for mature hawthorn when I am out and about. There's always dead branches you can harvest for fuel. I haven't used any other wood I could positively identify.
Some People used Cat Litter Pellets to burn too, but the price !!! YUCK !!! 40# Wood Pellet Bag at Home Depot is only $5.18. It will be cheaper to buy Wood Pellets. Tractor Supply Store have 2 Types and Regular Pellets is only $5.19 for a 40# Bag. They also have the Pine Bedding Pellets for $5.99 for a 40# Bag, maybe use that if you like the Pine Wood smells, LOL 😂😂😂😂
+Bradyvilleboy .Bradyvilleboy...pellets intended for pellet stoves are very very cheap ($5-$8 for a 40 pound bag) yet pellets intended for cat litter or meat smokers are more readily available at many times that cost, often as much as 15 bucks for a 10 pound bag. I am unsure what the differences are yet I am having good luck with the pellets intended for stoves. And I hate spending more than I have too. Just the way I am.
Great stove. Very efficient, however the pot stand needs improvement. Another stove of the same type [Silver Fire Scout] did re-design their pot stand after a significant number of complaints.
+Simon Hopkins The hole size seems a good balance between holding the fuel up and letting the ashes fall through. It is a solid fuel stove and if the ashes do not work their way down the stove gets "choked". Also of note: The intake air on the wild woodgas stove IS the bottom grate, unlike the DIY stoves I have made and the cheap copies you can buy elsewhere. Somehow this combo of ashes dropping and combustion air coming up through the bottom grate works fantastic. Wish I had thought of it!
The pellets are great but to be honest what is better than free. I've found that hardwood beach twigs or oak are pieces are far superior to the chip another top tip if you insist on using wooden pellets the bags of cat litter wood pellets are far cheaper than the small bags. You just need to buy the big bag keep it dry and transfer a portion of them before you go.
I bought some wood-pellet type cat litter from my local Sainsburys for use in the Wild Woodgas Stove.... Sainsbury's own brand, but when I got the bag open the pellets inside were tiny, MUCH TOO SMALL in diameter.... they fell straight through the holes in the grate!! They were half the diameter of the ones above, and there was no way of knowing this without tearing the pack open in the shop! Anybody got a cat?
***** Thank you for your response. I understand your point , it is well made. So, basically, I should keep pouring in the pellets until they "bind" in the holes in the grate. Fair enough! I shall have to give that a try. However, won't they drop through when size is reduced by burning. Indeed, ALL hot ashes drop through, eventually... ... so I have cut a disc of thick aluminium foil specifically to protect the ground under the stove.... (the material is cut from a ready-meal type foil tray.... more rigid than ordinary cooking foil.)
+effyleven I concur with WS GM...pour reasonable quickly, then pick up the stove and sweep those that fell through into you hand and onto the top of your freshly filled WWG stove. It appears it will not work but with average sized pellets it does. At least the ones I have seen on RUclips videos and here in the U.S.
Home Depot or Lowes or Tractor Supply Store.... Don't fall for Cat Litter Pellets, they are expensive compare to Regular Wood Pellets, which is like Pine, LOL

pellets cost more than gas?? www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/tractor-supply-pine-pellet-stall-bedding-40-lb?cm_vc=-10005 for a 40lb bag which with his calculation would give you 40 hours of full flame or overall 60 hours of cooking heat. if you are camping you are using light weight canister gas www.rei.com/product/651555/msr-isopro-fuel-canister-8-oz-227g that is giving you 1hr of burn time until empty at 5.95. But if you are talking about automotive gas and those stoves that power it then that's something you'll find that hard to compare and i never saw burn time tests on automotive gas on those stoves cause users usually bought white gas for a clean burn. but you don't have to deal with fuel on your hands and stuff so that's a plus?
I have this exact stove and was getting a lot of smoke, also not all the jets were firing... I'm guessing perhaps the wood I was burning wasn't as dry as I thought it was....

wow, incredible. I have ordered one of those stoves from Amazon and eagerly waiting for it to arrive.

I'll try this in my Tomshoo
How do you keep the black soot off of the pans or best way to clean?
Rub the outside of your pan with dish soap before cooking. The soot will come of easy when cleaning.
cat pellets give off a fair amount of steam.
only tried them in a bean can.
fire still surprises me how hard they are to get going.
small note - weird camera night and day effects.
do they make a lid so hot air can be directed sideways ?
Burn the cat pellets BEFORE the cat has pissed on them.
Great demo, more food to cook on.
I love these stoves. I Got Tomshoo upgraded version. This stove is awsome for multiple People
have you tried to burn corn to increase the BTU for cooking?
how to make this can you show me
That flame looks pretty orange. Do the pellets produce much soot.
Thanks

+aztiger1 As shown, TLUD stoves like to be lit on top. easy-peasy. Up and running almost immediately, Its magic...really! magic...
+G “Jerry” Henrickson Oh wait...does "/sarc" mean sarcasm or sarcastic? Sorry...my bad...
Good video!
what a brilliant , helpful video ! I have the exact stove , just got to find out where to get those sorta cat pellets ... thanks very much for sharing , appreciated
Hi, You can get a 10kilo bag from Tescos for £4.25. That will last a lifetime. You dont need a cat. Ken
i have exactly the same set up, ohuhu stove + MSR pot.

Excellent. It would be wonderful if the particulates could be reduced to 10ppm. It could be used indoors then
great just ordered one from your site shame you don't do the pellets
Could you use wood pellets for an indoor stove/furnace?
Yes.

Great stove. Very efficient, however the pot stand needs improvement. Another stove of the same type [Silver Fire Scout] did re-design their pot stand after a significant number of complaints.
So if cat litter falls through why not make an additional plate with smaller holes in? ?
😉

After seeing foxy's video I have ordered one, (but don't tell the Mrs) lol.
Blue flames at the end comes from carbon monoxide burning
Where does one go to buy wood pellets? Thank you for your post.

I'll have to check that out.
Are these pellets for fuel or bedding ?
Can You use charcoal bricketts ?
why bother with paying for wood pellets when small twigs cost nothing and dont have to carry them it seems to defeat the object to buy pellets
I'm guessing this versatility of this amazing wood stove, is that it can also be used as an emergency cooking aid, in case of emergencies, such as power outages at home or cottages, or for car campers where bringing some extra wood pellets wouldn't be such a big deal, weight wise.
We agree - endless free fuel is out there! Pellets are just another way of using it, and they're very cheap and do give a long consistent burn. I'd take a few out with me as a back up - I'd think of it as a substitute for a gas canister for very wet weather.
Indeed - a great back up fuel. There's a LOT of cooking energy in a bag of dense dry pellets.
You might be at a camp site which doesn't allow you to collect twigs - leave no trace camping.
yes you are exactly right that happend to me and my wife last year in Eastern Washington State .. we camped in a camp sight that did not allow you to gather or disturb areas outside the designated camping zone .. Those wood pellets make better fuel than cat litter they hate pine.
How many minutes into the burn do you throw the cat in?
when the water is boiling
Amazing how many people here think the video actually shows cat litter burning
The complete fill of my wood gas stove is about 400g of pellets., so basically the weight of a big size camping gaz canister. I think that the usage of pellets are very convenient for some specific usages, i.e. sit around a source of heat permitting to warm water or other drinks over a longer period of time. I think it comes close to the good old coal or wood cooking stove usage and the usage of pellet is more for car camping. The 450g gas canister would serve for about a week with two real cooking sessions in the morning and night. Everyone who paid attention knows you're firing this stove with cat crap ;) :D
Since when are wood pellets "cat litter?" Weird.
Holy shit!! You can burn wood to boil water?
LMFAO
Dried shit works best 👍🏻
That much pellets should burn for at least 1.5 hours or more.
I did literally everything step by step and I couldn't get this fucking thing to light. Took me about 30 minutes to warm up some premade coffee lol rip
I've got the stove and alpine pot, just gotta find the wood cat shit stuff ;-))

Not an effective burn, the flame should be blue, not yellow, go back to your drawing board......
