- Clairo describes the viral success that followed her video "Pretty Girl" as the “googly-eyed, deer-in-headlights," years of her career. “I was so desperate for validation in the beginning,” she told Rolling Stone in her recent cover story. "I just really wanted to be liked.” Claire Cottrill reflected on that period on "Amoeba," a gem from her new album, Sling. "'Amoeba' is essentially me scolding myself," she says in latest Breakdown video at Electric Lady Studios, accompanied by her producer Jack Antonoff.

Yeah, she's been really open about how bad her depressions been lately. Even having to call the Suicide Prevention hotline. And I appreciate this openness even if it sucks that someone else isn't feeling so good .

@@samawah7511 She also has a song, "Alewife" about her almost suicide attempt in 8th grade and that she would've done it if a friend didn't call police on her. It's essentially a love song to her friend.
I'm glad Clairo is responsible for this cool intro, let's hope people recognize her for it. Because it's far too easy for most people to think that Jack is the sole person producing the thing.

Never really followed Clairo but this song really grabbed me by the neck the first time I heard it and shook me. And hearing more about the creative process and little details are awesome. The layering of unexpected melodies and sounds was really refreshing to listen to.
claire’s personality is so quiet/awkward.. but i do feel like she’s the type of person who you can talk to and she can keep that secret.

One of the best breakdowns ever. I'd imagined a producer who brought in a team of studio musicians; now I see it was just the two, with Clairo doing most of the instrumentation and artistic direction... respect! Respect for her lyrics, vision/ear, creativity, and I love that he let her lead. They seem to have brought out the best in each other's creativity.
clairo is one of the most down to earth and talented people i know. she puts a lot of love into her craft.
I love Sling because it’s such a mature sounding album. The complex harmonies, beautiful chord progressions, the horns, the strings, etc etc… Very much reminds me of Pet Sounds/Brian Wilson production. Clairo is really progressing well as an artist. Major props to Jack Antonoff! Looking forward to what they do in the future.

This song is so quiet and finely braided together, I've played it from different rooms in my house and went into another room and I often end up hearing different layers of the song and it sounds unrecognisable.

I dont necessarily listen to her type of music but I do like the production behind bedroom pop or indie songs in general because it’s stripped back yet it has a freeing quality that most A-List Pop songs just doesn’t have.
I’ve on a kick of this type of vibe, if you like Clairo you should check out Faye Webster. They should do a collab 🙌
this album was less bedroom pop vibes than her other stuff, but I still agree about the stripped back production.

I met Clairo when she opened for Dua Lipa a few years back here in Houston. She’s so so awesome 🥲 so so happy to see her grow!
By the way, if anybody of you find Jack Antonoff familiar but can't exactly pinpoint why, it's because he was one of the band members in the group FUN, also known as the group who made the "we are young" song

I've felt the complex emotions that are evoked by all the sonic stuff going on, but I've had no idea the topic of the song or the depth of the details of the instrumental. it's so amazing to be able to learn these details. what a masterful song
